to say amara was shocked would be an understatement. for as long as she had known david she had always held some sort of dislike for him so the fact that her friends were convinced that not only she was attracted to him but the fact that they were made for each other honestly terrified her.
not that she believed them, it just scared her that if it were true it would mean not only would she have to spend her life with david ( damn mars ) but she would have to admit she's wrong. it was most impossible for her to admit she was wrong so if they were to be she would dread having those conversations. but that wasn't to happen...right?
however she had to try and contain her thoughts as she was with her sisters and she didn't want to have to bore them with more dave hate. in they're own words they had heard enough to start a whole burn book about him, and continue to write footnotes. so suffice it to say that they would roll their eyes and groan is she mentioned this. plus she had promised to help them convince their mother to let them stay over at her flat when they come over to london ( btw she shares with jasmine ).
"mamaaaa!!! come on please can we go! this way we don't have to pay for a hotel and we can spend time with mara. you have been complaining that we don't spend enough time her so we can do that. two birds with one stone!" aziza had been pleading with her mother for the past 10 minutes, while her twin continuously pulled puppy dog eyes, hoping that it would convince her ( it would not ).
"azouza we've talked about this. it's not polite to just expect your sister and her friend to just let you two stay when you're going in a week's time. it's a no! you'll have to find a way to pay for it. WITHOUT asking your sister!"

"this isn't about you. it's about them. you spoil them too much, they need to learn how to do things by themselves. they can't just expect you to swoop in and save them every time."

this statement often caused arguments between the two. amara hated that just because she's older she's expected to be responsible for everything, and she hated that her mother expected that of her.
it caused a lot of arguments when she was a teenager as she often wanted to do typical teenage things but couldn't as her parents were both working and so had to look after her sisters, who happened to just be toddlers at the time. however, she wasnt going to start an argument with her mother as she was too tired and too perplexed by cench's revelation.

"oh for fuck's sake! i didn't think they'd actually manage it. tell them they're sharing a room. and aaliyah's staying with me. also your cat is doing just fine mars."

"um we gonna just forget that mars spammed us, demanded to call us and told us she had to say something." fatima exclaimed clocking her best friend's swift topic change.
"oh right yeah. so basically i get added to this group chat by stormzy and i didn't really think much about it because i just thought he did it by accident. i was right, but that's besides the point. so basically i scroll up and i see," amara briefly paused before groaning and shuddering at the thought of his name, " dave, ugh, cench and mike on that chat so i'm confused right. then cench starts texting and says that he's staging an intervention for dave to GET HIM TO ADMIT HE LIKES ME!!!!"
"NO HE DIDN'T!!" fatima dropped her phone at this revelation. not just shocked at the statement itself but that cench was confident enough to reveal to the two what they had all been thinking.
"wait did he know that you were there?" jasmine questioned slightly perplexed and wondering what would possess cench to admit this in front of amara if he did know.
"i was getting to that!"
"ok bitchy!"

jasmine and marcus had quite an intense relationship and had been on and off over the course of around 5 years. when they would break up it was because their insecurities would show and instead of working through it they'd just argue about it until they couldn't take it anymore.
but they couldn't escape each other and would go back to each other each time. their last break up happened due to jasmine and her parents large row which caused them to kick out both her and her sister aaliyah out of the house. obviously this caused immense stress and pain for jasmine and marcus wanted to be there for her but he was terrified at how she would look after herself. never mind the fact that she had become more irritable.
so marcus decided to take a break from their relationship ( he was still for her though dw ) so she would look after herself better. that didn't mean that jasmine wasn't hurt by this decision or didn't think about him, it just meant she had to stop herself from texting him every morning.

WHEWW that was a long ass chapter. but i felt like you guys needed to get a proper intro.
so what are you guys thinking so far. i kinda like that dave and amara don't like each other because when they interact you'll see their banter and get my vision
also i wanted to make it clear that they always have been attracted to each other they just haven't realised it yet. and yes cench telling them that they are was counter productive because they're obviously going to get defensive. but that does mean you'll get to see them realising they're attracted to one another and then the lovers bit.
i did this cuz i hate when in enemies to lovers they act like they never found them attractive and then boom you like them
( like yeah it can happen but that means there was some level of attraction to begin with ).
so just to clarify they still don't like each other this isn't an 'oh they realised they liked each other the whole time' , this is a 'i've been attracted to them but only just realised but i still don't like them' and then the 'now i've spent more time with them i'm starting to fall for them'.
