(2 years ago....)

Y/n was skipping around the guild halls, whistling a soft tune as he enjoyed the momentary light of tranquillity that decided to shine on his hectic life. He was happy as peaceful days like these were hard to come by, thanks to his busy schedule. He halted his bouncing steps before taking out a small piece of paper from his pocket.

Y/n: Hm, Let's see.... according to my plan for today, I have to go shopping for clothes, first, play around the forest, next, and finally end the day by eating at the brand-new restaurant.

Y/n muttered to himself as he carefully observed his to-do list. He had much to do but had so little time. The boy decided to march to the market district with a giddy smile on his face.

The bustling streets of the market had lost its liveliness. The people of all genders and sizes stopped whatever they were doing as they prioritized their desire to gawk at certain person who completely ignored the thousands of eyes that goggled his features in awe.

Y/n: Man, this ice cream his awesome. I don't how they manage bring up something as delicious as this with just bland ice.

Y/n wanted to try the new ice cream parlour which had been the talk of the town for some time now. And, thanks to this new flavour of ice cream that they came up with today only. He could safely give the parlour a five-star rating which unbeknownst to him, carried a lot of weight among merchants of Magnolia.

Y/n, still oblivious to the stares received from the people, decided to depart for his next destination. The God Arsenal immediately took to the skies after finishing his cold delight, leaving a gobsmacked crowd to watch him to disappear into the clouds.

Y/n softly landed down on soft grass of his favourite clearing in the forests of Magnolia. It was his preferred spot because of its location. Surrounded by dense forests with flora and fauna of different types to observe, but most of all was the sense of security and privacy it provided him. It was something he couldn't even find in his own apartment.

However, today Y/n was a bit surprised because this time, he had some special company. Y/n couldn't help but arch an eyebrow at the sight of a familiar figure.

Jellal, who had recently joined FairyTail on his recommendation, was standing with his arms stretched out as a small flickering ball of light formed between his palms. Y/n could see Jellal was struggling to maintain the sphere which left him a bit shocked. He distinctly remembered resolving his lack of magic situation and now, Jellal had went back to his old ways of honing his magic despite his unfavourable condition.

Y/n: What are you doing?

Jellal leapt back in surprise when Y/n snuck behind him and whispered in his ear. The lambent magic sphere in his hand shattered like thin glass as Jellal lost his footing before tumbling over the grassy patch of the clearing.

The young mage looked at Y/n with wide eyes, one hand clutching his chest tightly as he panted heavily.

Jellal: Damn it! You just scared the life out of me, jerk!

Y/n's response was cocking his head to the side as he peered at the worn-down state of his friend. Jellal looked ready to die any minute with a sheet-white face, bloodshot eyes and rivers sweat flowing down in his face.

Y/n: You look like a malnourished Vulcan who apparently wishes to take steroids without even having the capacity to digest even one.

Jellal's face contorted into a disgusted expression mixed with slight annoyance for the offender known as Y/n.

Jellal: You know if our lives were part of a story, you would definitely be the reason for our book to be made privy from children.

Y/n: Gimme a break, will you? It's not my fault parents think that a few cuss words alongside some gore would affect their children's personality. I mean, come on, you and I are both well aware that children pick up far too many bad habits from their social circle alone.

Jellal: Touché

Y/n pulled Jellal back up to his feet as the latter dusted off his clothes before turning back to the Divine Bane.

Jellal: So.... Was scaring the hell outta me your only goal or was there anything you needed?

Y/N: Not really. I was just out here enjoying my off day when I suddenly caught a glimpse of you. Now that I mention it, what exactly are you doing out here in middle of a wilderness?

Jellal shrugged his shoulders before nonchalantly responding to Y/n.

Jellal: Nothing much really, I was just practicing my magic.

Y/n: Why? Don't you have those special staves of yours to help in combat?

Jellal flashed him a bitter smile before turning around, reluctant to face his friend as he responded.

Jellal: I know... It's j-just hard coming to terms with the fact that it is truly gone.

The young mage rubbed the front of his palm with his thumb. Bangs of hair fell over his face with glassy eyes hidden underneath.

Y/n could only watch with a look of sympathy. It is not easy to lose something that has been with you since you first appeared in your mother's womb. The Divine Bane shook his head as warm smile appeared on his face.

Y/n: Well, I guess there is no helping it.

All forms of warmth abandoned the God Arsenal's face, replaced by a look that could scare the Black Wizard himself. Jellal immediately felt a cold shiver shoot up his spine with all his senses roaring at him to run away as far as possible.

Sadly, his response was too late as a gentle palm fell on his shoulders. He shakily turned his head and was met with the smiling figure of Y/n which would give him nightmares for the rest of his life.

Y/n: Let's go. I believe I have the perfect solution for your problem.

Jellal's protests fell on deaf ears as the God Arsenal whisked him away into the clouds.

Jellal: So ...... Can you please tell explain to me, why exactly are we in the middle of the cold frigid ranges of Mt. Hakobe?!

Jellal shouted at the top of his lungs causing the God Arsenal to plug his ears.

Y/n: Jeez, why are you being such a worrywart? Didn't I tell you that we were on an official guild quest.

Jellal: Yes! I know that! What I wish to know is the contents of the quest?!

Y/n: Why? You saw it before we accepted the quest.

Jellal: I Just want to recheck it because I don't remember the quest saying anything about us travelling to tundral peaks of Hakobe and I certainly don't remember becoming dinner to a poachment of over ten Blizzardverns!!

Y/n still couldn't comprehend the gravity of the situation. To him, Bilzzardverns were nothing more than exceedingly large, draconian beasts that are predominantly white in colour. Black talons on their feet, and black spikes running down their back with two large bat-like wings.

Noticing the oblivious look on his friend's face, Jellal could only pray to the gods to grant them a miracle to ensure their survival. Thankfully, his gut had warned him of the possible danger that could come with Y/n as company. He made a pit stop back to his apartment and outfitted himself in his custom 'Winter Battle-Gear'.

It was endowed with special enchantments that kept his body warm as well as boost his magic control and physical stamina in frigid terrains. However, the most special thing about this outfit was the fact it was conceived from the bark of the very same tree that Y/n showed him on their very first meeting. This made it possible for Jellal to fight without completely relying on his staves.

Y/n: Six o'clock!!

Jellal ducked in time just as a Blizzardvern zoomed over him. The mage retaliated by hurling multiple spheres of light at the flying lizard. The Bilzzardvern shrieked in pain before crashing down to the ground.

Jellal: 2 o'clock!!

Without even looking, Y/n flipped backwards in the air, dodging the incoming jaw of the Blizzardvern by a hair's breadth. He followed up by flicking his wrist upwards as giant pillars of ice shot up from the ground and pierced through the Blizzardvern's stomach.

Jellal was about launch another attack when a loud roar boomed in the air. The mage froze in his footsteps as his eyes tried to process the sight in front of him.

Y/n: Oh, looks like we have more company to deal with.

However, Y/n's voice drowned out by the roaring of what appeared to be another large poachment of Blizzardverns. The worst thing about it was that this group appeared to even larger and fiercer than the current one.

Jellal gritted his teeth in frustration. It took all he had just to deal with ten Blizzardverns. His magic reserves have hit the bottom already. Ther was no way that he could deal with the incoming threat anymore.

Y/n: Are you sure?

Jellal shifted his gaze and saw Y/n looking at him with an arched eyebrow.

Y/n: You still have that, don't you?

Jellal clenched his fists as realisation dawn upon him. Y/n was referring to 'that' of all things. Jellal knew that it could easily turn the situation around. Unfortunately, he still couldn't control its overwhelming power.

Sensing his friend's hesitation, Y/n couldn't help but sigh. He knows Jellal better than anyone in the guild and so, he also realises just how much of a coward his friend is. As a friend, Y/n has no choice but to uproot these weeds of self-doubt in Jellal's mind. This is exactly why he had brought him on this particular quest.

Y/n: The best way to learn combat is on the battlefield. Plus, you have got nothing to lose, right?

Y/n's words reverberated inside Jellal's mind. It was true. He had nothing to lose. Everything he once had is now gone and now, he needed strength more than anything in order to reclaim them.

Jellal: Alright, Let's do it!

The young mage slowly reached into his coat and pulled out small object from it.

It was magic charm which included a small blue orb surrounded by intricate ancient-looking patterns.

Jellal held it up for the Blizzardverns to see. The latter stepped back in fear, sensing the immense magic that radiated from the charm. Jellal smirked before channelling his magic into the charm. The magic item flashed a brilliant blue light that engulfed everything within a five-meter radius.

When the light died down, the lone figure of Jella was seen with a long staff in his hand. The staff gave out a primal feeling with long azure shaft curved at the bottom and bronze-plating for the top section. However, the most intimidating thing about the staff was the frozen dragon spirit that rested its giant talons on the staff's bronze head.

Jellal: Allow me to introduce you to Morana, The Dragsbane Staff of Ice.

The Blizzardverns were now panicking. Their instincts screaming for them flee as fast as possible. Sadly, the hope of escape had perished the moment they found their feet stuck to the ground, completely frozen in blocks of ice.

Jellal flashed them a toothy grin. He twirled the staff in his hand before pointing it at the Blizzardverns.

Jellal: Let's end this.

Morana emitted a bright cerulean glow with cold, heavy waves of magics rolling of in waves as it keenly observed its prey.

Jellal:

 O' Northern Queen of Winter

Hear My Cry and Descend Upon Thine World

Let Thou Foes Beseech the Almighty

In the Frozen Purgatory Thou Bestows

APPOLYOTES NULLA!!!!

In the blink of an eye, the entire battlefield was covered in thick ice. Y/n, who managed to fly away just in time, observed the frozen forms of the Blizzardverns from a few feet in the air. He couldn't deny the tremendous strength the weapon packed. He knew it was a legendary staff forged by from the bones of the dragoness that ruled over the winter but still....

Y/n shifted his gaze and saw the frozen plains formed by Appolyotes Nulla. It stretched over the tallest peaks of Mt Hakobe. He could only watch with a sheepish smile while scratching the back of his neck. Hakobe had turned from a mountain into a complete plateau with smooth frozen top.

The God Arsenal decided to ignore the otherworldly phenomena caused by a single spell. People couldn't blame Fairy Tail since, technically nothing was damaged. He quickly investigated the battlefield for Jellal and was unsurprised to find the young mage knocked out in a small hole.

Y/n: Well, I guess Morana took pity on him and left him unscathed for one. No need to tell him that though.

Y/n lifted his hand before a metal chain shot out and wrapped around the unconscious mage. He retracted the chain back with Jellal tied to it before placing the mage on his back and flying back to the guild. He could hear Jellal softly snoring on his back which made God Arsenal sprout a warm smile.

It seems that his friend has finally managed to overcome his fears. He still remembered that every time he used Morana, he would be plagued by nightmares for the following nights. But now, he slept like a baby with a soft smile on his face.

Y/n: See, you don't need to be the 'jack of all trades' just be the master of 'one'......
