I pull out the pearl that I made into a necklace. Peeta's pearl. The one he gave to me eons ago. Willow gasps. I hold it in my hands, "Since I'm not going to have this forever, I'll give it to you. So that your marriage will be like Peeta and mines. It started with a pearl. I remember when he gave it to me, it was so thoughtful. Little did I know that it would still be here. I thought I would've lost this. It was the only thing that that kept me hoping. When I was upset I would run this through my fingers and it would help me. It wasn't the pearl itself, it was thought and love put into it. I want you to have the same thing with Oliver and you, so that you'll be just as happy as we are. And when you have children pass it to them, and tell them as I have." I put the necklace on Willow. Willow takes it in her fingers.
Willows chin quivers, "M-mom i-its beautiful!"
"I hope you like it" I smile. Willow leans to hug me, "M-mom I love it!"
My eyes get teary. I try my best not to let them fall out. Willow and I release, "Now go out there and kiss Oliver"
Willow nods, "I love you mom"
"Love you too Willow"
Peeta and Willow lock arms. The music gets more intense. I sneak out of the tent to sit down and watch the ceremony. The last couple walks down the isle, now its Willows turn.
Willows POV
️I clutch onto my dads arm. It becomes my lifeline. I tense up once we walk out. Mrs. Abernathy cues us and we smile at the audience. I make sure not to trip on my dress. I look into dads blue eyes. He studies mine, and I study his. We look away from each other, and continue to make eye contact with the audience.
Oliver is there. He's standing with Mr. Abernathy under the gazebo. Suddenly I start uncontrollably smiling. No more faking it, now its all real. Oliver's chin quivers. I give him that eye I always do, sexy. Oliver's eyes start to fill with water. Mine give into it and before I leave my dads arm, my eyes are about ready to flood out onto my face.
I give one last glance at my dad. He pulls away from my arm, "Bye" he whispers.
Loads of butterflies fill my stomach. A tear rolls down my cheek. Oliver's eyes are red, but I know he's overflowing with happiness.
"I'm so nervous!" he says wiping a tear from my cheek. I nod, "Me too!"
Mr. Abernathy clears his throat and begins reading the vows to us. Of course before he does that he cracks some jokes to make our tears fade away. Then it gets serious. I stare into Oliver's beautiful green eyes, then I look to my parents. My moms smile is glowing, my dad watching with big eyes. I give them that smile I always make when I see them.
I look back at Oliver and he studies my eyes. Mr. Abernathy clears his throat,
"Oliver" Mr. Abernathy says, "Do you promise to love Willow without condition, to honor her each and everyday, to laugh with her and support her, to challenge her to be a better person, and allow her to do the same for you, to be
her biggest fan, and her ever present audience?"
Oliver's chin quivers, "I do"
Mr. Abernathy turns to me and asks me the same thing he asked Oliver, of course I say "I do"
The audience stays silent and waits for Mr. Abernathy to say, "You may now kiss the bride"
Oliver gives me a, Are you ready? look. I give a little shake. He wraps his hands around my back and draws me closer to his lips. He presses his lips against mine. I get lost in his kiss. We both get lost. Again, theres that feeling: where your in a wonderland.
Everyone shoots off their chairs and claps. I can here dad whistling. Oliver and I end the kiss so we can breathe. We turn our heads to the audience. Moms eyes are watering, Mrs. Abernathy is crying, along with others, and all of Oliver's huge family are there clapping. Mr. Abernathy walks up to us, "That was a great kiss!" he laughs. Oliver and I laugh along with him.
Oliver and I walk down to the guests. Everyone crowds us, telling us how beautiful that was, and saying congratulations. Mom and dad come up to us. Dad throws his arms around me, "That was great!"
Mom walks up next, "You're married now!"
"I know!" I squeal. Even though it literally just happened, its hard to imagine that now I'm a wife. Mr. Hawthorne walks up to Oliver and pats his back, "Congratulations you two!" he says reaching to hug me.
"Thank you!" I say. Oliver and I look into each others eyes again. Getting lost so easily. Mr. Hawthorne's deep voice gets are attention.
"Katniss, Peeta, have you guys met my family yet?" he asks. My parents shake their heads, "No"
Mr. Hawthorne calls them over to meet the family. Finally no more crowds, just me and him. I wrap my arms around the back of his neck and we kiss each other again.
Katniss POV
We leave the two lovebirds to themselves as Gale leads us to his family. All of them are talking in a group. Gale clears his throat, "Guys this is Peeta and Katniss Mellark"
Everyones eyes stare at us dully. I awkwardly smile. Peeta shakes everyones hands. Once one person says, "Hello!" then everyone else follows. Peeta and I are bombarded by Gales huge family. His two brothers pat my back, "Hey Katniss!"
I don't know anyone of them, but I do remember them as kids, "Hey.. Uh Ror-"
"No I'm Vick" he smiles widely. I shake his hand," Right, hey Vick"
"I've heard so much about you!" his green eyes are so bright and big. "Really?"
"Oh of course!" he starts to talk all about me and how he somehow still remembers me from when I used to babysit them, and on and on. He's friendly, and very talkative. His features are very similar to Gales. Chiseled face, he's taller than Gale, which makes him taller then 6.2'.
His hair is darker then Gales, almost black. His eyes are lighter then Gales. Almost like Oliver's light green eyes. I meet his wife and their three boys. Two are adults and one is still a teenager. The two adults have a family: One girl, and five boys.
After that long talk with Vick, then I meet Rory. His hair is more of a golden brown, like Posy's. He is shorter then Vick and Gale, his eyes are dark green, they almost look brown. He's not nearly as talkative as Vick, but he is polite.
I meet his wife and kids. Two boys. One has a little boy, and the other is expecting one.
Posy on the other hand has one daughter who is in college. Posy doesn't resemble Gale at all. She looks more like Hazel.
I greet everyone and we all talk a little more. I look over at Willow and Oliver every here and there. They seem to like being alone together.
Peeta stays and talks. I walk to Haymitch. Him and Effie are talking to Willow and Oliver. Haymitch turns around when he hears me walking, "Sweetheart"
"Hi Haymitch, hi Effie"
They all smile at me.
"Did you get bored talking to the Hawthorne's?" Oliver laughs. "No- ok maybe" I laugh.
"Its fine, I know how you feel" Oliver replies.
"Katniss I was just telling them how they make the perfect couple!" Effie squeaks.
"Oh I know" I smile.
"I was so nervous!" Oliver says.
"Well you did a good job" Haymitch says, "I mean as in the-"
"Haymitch!" Effie scolds. Oliver and Willow start laughing, "Its fine" Oliver says.
Suddenly Peeta grabs the microphone, "Hello everyone" he clears his throat, "Thanks for coming to Willow and Oliver's wedding ceremony"
Everyone claps, "I have some speeches for you all. First I will start with my short speech about the newly married couple"
Everyone sits down on the chairs. And listens for Peeta to begin.
"I was given the opportunity to become a dad" Peeta begins, "And with that I raised my beautiful daughter, who is sitting there with Oliver. Willow you are my everlasting joy.. I love you unconditionally and I want to tell you truly how beautiful you are! You remind me so much of your mother! I love you honey, and I'll always love you.
You'll forever be my little mockingjay."
Peeta's speech brought tears to my eyes. Everyone applauds Peeta. I look to see Willows face. She's glowing with happiness.
"Thank you all" Peeta smiles, "Now for Oliver"
Everyone claps as Oliver walks onto the stage, "I just want to thank Peeta and Katniss for making this wedding possible."
Everyone stares at us and claps.
"I would like to thank my family for coming all the way from the many districts you live in. That was very generous of you! I would like to thank my dad for supporting me through everything! And thank you the Mellark's for bringing Willow into this world."
Peeta and I laugh.
"Now I want to thank Willow for helping me through everything in my life. Y-you saved me through so many regrets that I would've made, and you showed me that I am loved, and I want to simply thank you for never giving up on me. We've had ups and downs, but I love going through them with you, because that only makes us stronger. I can't thank you enough! I love you Willow, I think of you everyday. Your smile will never get old."
Willows laughs, tears roll down her cheeks. Everyone applauds Oliver.
Willow stands up and walks to Peeta, "Can I say something?"
Peeta nods, "Sure" he hands the microphone to Willow. Willow clears her throat, ""I-I have something to say about Oliver. First off without you I wouldn't be here today. I wouldn't be standing here saying this speech, or even wearing this gorgeous dress, I've never felt this beautiful! Oliver, you've made me, me. I remember thinking that I would never live to see a better day, but with you that became possible, and I want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you--forever. I never felt more beautiful today, and thank you for making me a different person. You changed me in a way I'll never forget!"
Everyone cheers. I look to Oliver. I've never seen him this happy. Willow walks to sit back down. Peeta takes the microphone, "Now we will rap it up, but Oliver and Willow I want to congratulate you one more time. The way your looking into each others eyes right now, I know that you will stay together, forever."
Everyone "awes"
"But before I let my daughter go on her own, and leave us" Peeta laughs. He looks into Willows eyes and becomes serious, "This dance is for you Willow. Come up with me."
Willow gets up and walks to Peeta, "Dad whats going on?" Willow whispers.
"All the daughters and fathers join us" Peeta says.
Haymitch walks up to me and extends his hand out, "Would you sweetheart?"
I stand up and take his hand. We walk to the hill where all the other daughters and fathers are dancing. You can see the glistening lake from the lake. Its a beautiful sight!
