In a cruel twist of fate, Richard Edmonds has been survived by his father, who made a miraculous recovery from his cancer. Having met his sister before, I've been communicating with the family.
Traditionally the next course of action would be to release the body. Keeping a decaying body on a spaceship is unsafe. I personally feel like that is a cruel way to treat Richard's body. I have instead pitched to Commander Hunt that we refreeze Richard and wait to bury him once we arrive on the surface. Considering he was so committed to Europa it is what he would have wanted. The crew could hold a little ceremony that we could record and send to the family, to offer more of a feeling of closure. Commander Hunt has sent a message to NASA to see how they feel about the idea.
All the surviving crew members are awake and somewhat functional. To be honest I've felt cold since I thawed out, but that could also be the wave of depression I've been experiencing.
Adams has had a splitting headache since he thawed out, but he is expected to make a full recovery. There is a chance that Dr. Horvat may have to lose a finger. It makes me question how much testing they've done on this technology before sending us out on this mission.
I have still yet to open my own personal messages, although I have requested mission control to notify them, I'm alright. I'm just not ready.
