Cherry's nerves were completely, 100 percent frayed. She was sitting at the Hogwarts' Lake ▬ you could call it the Big Lake or the Great Lake, it didn't matter ▬ waiting for her girlfriend, Hermione Granger, show up. Surely Hermione wouldn't ditch her? Facing the deep, dark water, Cherry watched her reflection mournfully.
"You actually came," a cool voice said; Cherry turned around to face Hermione.
"I keep my promises ▬ always," Cherry replied lightly, but even she knew their relationship was unsalvageable.
Hermione hesitate, before sitting down next to Cherry. Not close enough to be touching, but not as far as one metre. They sat in silence for a couple minutes ▬ Cherry, thinking about how she could've saved their love if she confided in Hermione; Hermione, unsure of what was going on and fearing the worst. The silence was definitely uncomfortable, a heavy, pregnant, uncomfortable silence.
Finally, Hermione broke it. "I need you to be frank with me," she said, "did you cheat on me? Are you ▬ currently?"
"I ▬ no ▬ never," Cherry cried out. Her heart was breaking: she had made Hermione feel like literal shite! How did she fix that? And how did it even start? "... why did you think so?" she asked.
Hermione's eyesbrows slowly made their way up her forehead. "How could I not ▬?"
"▬ no, no, I get it," Cherry interrupted, then realized that it probably wasn't the best move, based on Hermione's unimpressed expression. Quieting down, she repeated, "I get it, 'Mione. All the signs were pointing to the fact that I was cheating ▬ even if I wasn't." Cherry seemed so determined to say she wasn't cheating that Hermione started to believe her.
"Then why ▬?" (Hermione's voice broke.)
"Because ... ▬" Cherry stopped abruptly. How could she explain this to Hermione? "I ▬"
"You don't think that we're ... that we fit anymore?" Hermione guessed.
Cherry shook her head. "No..." She remembered what Mattheo had said earlier over texts (or had it been Zach?), about not saying 'We don't fit!' loudly or something...but...what would she do?
Cherry sighed, running her hand through her thick hair. Her voice was so quiet, when she talked again, trying to explain herself, Hermione could barely hear her. "I got texts."
Hermione stood, pushing herself off of the snowy area near the lake, towering over Cherry. In an extremely incredulous tone, she demanded, "You're breaking up with me over texts? Because of texts?!"
"Listen, Hermione ▬"
Hermione shook her head, whirled around, and yelled behind her, to Cherry, "Leave me alone!"
