Regina Hargrove is your typical girl. A shitty brother, an asshole of a dad, a ghost for a mom, and an underlying secret she would be resented for if anyone knew. The summer of '85 she decides to take up a summer job at the local mall's ice cream shop, Scoops Ahoy, so she can make money for school. Her plan was to give grimy kids their ice cream during her shift and study on her break. Nothing more, nothing less. The only thing she wanted to do was to leave Hawkins the minute she could. However, her and her coworkers uncover a secret that could change life as they know it.
