As I looked into my daughter Elle's teary eyes, my heart felt heavy with the decision I had to make. "You have class pa kasi, Elle," I gently explained, wiping away her tears with my thumb. "I wish I could take you with me to the medical mission, but it's not safe for children there, and you need to attend your classes."

"But Mama," she sniffled, "I want to be with you. I don't want you to go away again." Elle wrapped her small arms around my waist, seeking comfort in my embrace.

I knelt down to her level and held her hands, trying my best to explain the situation. "I know, my love, and I promise I'll be back as soon as I can. This medical mission is important, and we'll be helping a lot of people. Once it's over, I'll bring you to the Philippines with me, and we'll spend some quality time together." Her eyes brightened at the mention of visiting the Philippines, a place she had always wanted to explore because of her Filipino heritage and ofcourse sa Daddy niya. "Really, Mama? You promise?"

"I promise, sweetheart," I assured her, giving her a warm smile. "We'll have a wonderful adventure together once your class is done."

As Elle's school bus arrived, she reluctantly let go of my hand and stepped back. "Okay, Mama. I'll wait for you to come back. Take care, and I love you."

"I love you too, Elle," I replied, feeling a lump in my throat. "Be good at school, and I'll see you soon."

With a heavy heart, I watched Elle board the school bus, blowing kisses as it drove away. It wasn't easy leaving my daughter behind, but I knew the medical mission was essential, and I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

" That's what I exactly feel nung nalayo ako sa inyo" bulong niya sa akin.

"Ladies and gentlemen, let us all welcome the doctors who have come to help us in our medical mission!" the host announced enthusiastically as our group entered the venue. The room erupted into applause as we took our places on the stage. One by one, they introduced each member of our team, acknowledging our efforts and dedication to the cause. I couldn't help but feel a mix of pride and nervousness.

As the introductions concluded, we were presented with certificates of appreciation for our participation in the mission. The governor of the city, Lucian, stepped forward to personally hand out the certificates and greet each one of us.

As my turn came, I stepped forward to receive the certificate from Lucian. The moment our hands touched during the handshake, I felt a jolt of emotions surge through me. His words, however, caught me off guard.

For a moment, I was taken aback. It had been quite some time since anyone had mentioned my old surname, Lombardi. It was the name I had when I was married to Lucian. After our divorce, I had decided to drop it and revert to my maiden name.

Clearing my throat, I managed a small smile, hoping to keep any discomfort at bay. "Yes, that was my previous surname. I've gone back to using Geuvara after the divorce," I replied calmly.

His tone turned sarcastic as he said, "We're divorced?" I was taken aback by his response, not expecting such a reaction from him.He continued, his voice tinged with bitterness, "I must have missed the memo. You've moved on so quickly, haven't you?"

His words hit me like a sudden blow, and I struggled to find the right words to respond. "Lucian, it's been a while since our divorce, and we both agreed that it was for the best," I said, trying to keep my composure despite the hurt I felt.

He scoffed, looking away for a moment before meeting my gaze again. "For the best? Maybe for you, but it wasn't that easy for me."

As I returned to the table, Dr. Rion, a colleague who had shown some romantic interest in me in the past, approached me with concern evident in his eyes. "Sonne, is everything okay?" he asked, noticing the serious expression that lingered from the conversation with the governor.

I forced a smile and replied, "It's okay, Dr. Rion. Just a work-related discussion with the governor. Nothing to worry about."

Dr. Rion seemed to sense that I didn't want to delve into further details, and he nodded understandingly. "Alright, if you say so. Just know that I'm here if you need someone to talk to."

"Thank you, I appreciate it," I said, grateful for his consideration.

As I dialed Elle's number, I tried to focus on her, hoping that talking to her would ease the lingering tension from the conversation with Lucian.

"Hello, Mama," Elle's sweet voice greeted me on the other end of the line.

"Hi, sweetheart. How was school today?" I asked, trying to sound cheerful.

"It was okay. I miss you, Mama," she replied softly.

"Ohh,I miss you too, baby. Remember, I'll be back soon, and we'll have that wonderful adventure together," I reassured her.

"I can't wait!" Elle exclaimed, her excitement evident in her voice.

"I can't wait!" Elle exclaimed, her excitement evident in her voice.

We continued to talk for a few more minutes, and I made sure she knew I loved her and would always be there for her. As the call ended, I felt a sense of comfort knowing that Elle was okay.

Returning to the room, I found Lucian standing there, his expression serious with a hint of jealousy. "So, baby, ha?" he said, emphasizing the word "baby." "That's why  your friend Sky want me to sign the divorce papers because you met someone at Czech?"

As my anger surged in response to Lucian's accusation, I couldn't hold back any longer. "How dare you accuse me of cheating?" I said, my voice trembling with frustration and hurt. 'I wanted the divorce because I didn't want you to worry about me. I was concerned for you too! What if your people found out that I was struggling with my mental health? I didn't want them to think less of you or treat you differently because of me' gusto kong sabihin ang mga salita na iyon, pero para ano pa? Para magbalikan kami?

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself, and I walked away from Lucian before I said something I might regret. I didn't want to engage in an argument or let our past emotions take control of the present.

Dr. Rion, who had been observing from a distance, came over and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Are you okay, Sonne?" he asked with genuine concern.

sighed and nodded. "I'll be fine. It's just... seeing him again brought back a lot of memories and emotions."

"I understand," he said softly. "But remember, you don't have to go through this alone. If you ever need someone to talk to or a shoulder to lean on, I'm here."

"Thank you, Dr. Rion. I really appreciate your support," I replied gratefully.
