THE SILENCE WAS BECOMING OVER-WHELMING for Remus Lupin, as he sat alone in the library.
It was two minutes past the time they'd agreed to meet. His nerves rose more with every passing second. What if she wasn't going to show?
What if she decided that he wasn't worth her time? What if she-
His spiral was cut off as the sweet voice he'd grown fond of filled his ears.
"Sorry for being late, I bumped into the Prewett twins on my way over," Amaya apologised as she took the seat next to him.
"No worries, I began to think that you um you ditched me," he laughed nervously.
Amaya just laughed as she took her books out, causing Remus' heart to speed up. He made her laugh. HE made her laugh.
She opened her charms book and took out her wand, "I was wondering if you could help me with the patronus charm?"
"Isn't that a seventh year spell?"
"I like to study ahead Lupin."
"You've barely begun your 5th year Nott," he retorted back.
"Are you saying you can't do it Lupin?" she raised an eyebrow at him.
Remus scoffed in return, as he took his wand and casted his patronus. A real body patronus.
Amaya's eyes widened in amazement as the wolf danced around the sky, before coming and nuzzling against her leg. The glow in her eyes as she looked at his patronus made his heart swell in pride.
But when she turned to look at him with that spark still there and respect glowing from her eyes?
At this moment Remus Lupin knew he was undeniably falling in love.
"Uhm- it will uh take more than a uh a lesson to learn the um the charm so-" he felt like he couldn't make full sentences at that moment.
"That's fine...what if we meet up 3 times a week, after dinner?" Amaya offered.
"What- whatever works for um for you," he smiled at the thought of spending more time with her.
As the evening wore on the two learned more about eachother. Maya learned that Remus' favourite chocolate was a muggle one called Galaxy and Remus learned Amaya's favourite spell was (worryingly) one far too similar to the imperious curse.
It was nearly time for curfew when the two finally noticed how dark it was.
"I've got to go, my brother and friends will kill me if I'm back late," Amaya immediately started packing her things away.
"Yeah of course sorry, um, would- would you like me to uh to walk you to your um your common room?"
Amaya smiled at his sweetness, she felt something in her flutter at his blush and found herself unable to deny those chocolate eyes.
"I think I'd like that."
He smiled down at her, his eyes looked gentle. She felt herself blushing, her head turning to face the floor.
The two headed out the library, walking along eachother. Silence was around them, but a comfortable one. A calming one. Remus felt her hand brush against his, his nerves rising again.
Should he hold her hand? What if she wasn't comfortable with that? What if it was too straight-forward? What if-
Amaya felt his hand take hers, once again feeling that flutter in her as she held his tightly. She looked up at him and smiled, seeing him already smiling at her.
They took a turn when Remus started talking, "You know, this is the corridor where Sirius almost pissed himself after Peeves caught him with some girl mid-shag."
"You're joking right?" Amaya imagined the look on Sirius Black's face and started laughing.
Lupin started laughing alongside her, "no no I'm being completely serious, you should've seen how mortified the girl was."
Maya laughed even harder at the thought, causing Remus to go on just to hear her adorable laugh.
"She started screaming and then slapped him for letting them get caught, and and-"
"She slapped him?" Amaya was almost breathless from laughter.
"Yeah, should've seen the look on his face," he laughed as he remembered it.
"The Sirius Black got slapped in the face- I-" she felt like she could barely breathe as the two turned a corner.
Her laughter, however, fell silent as the two came face to face with someone who looked familiar but was staring oddly at the two.
Remus hadn't noticed yet, too caught up in his story and staring at his crush as the girl made no turn to move Amaya started getting tired of it.
"Can I help you?" Amaya asked, raising an eyebrow.
This caused the boy next to her to stop laughing, as he looked away from Amaya towards the stranger, "Oh Grace, hey. Um Amaya, this is Grace Potter, Grace Amaya Nott." he introduced.
The Nott's gaze softened upon hearing her last name, "Potter? As in James Potter?"
"Yeah, he's my brother," the girl, no Grace, answered as she looked down towards Amaya's and Remus' joint hands.
"Oh Jamie has told me so much about you-"
'Jamie?' Grace thought, she never got to call him that.
"Have you transferred from Beauxbaton?" Amaya asked.
"Yes I'm actually in Hufflepuff," the girl replied, her eyes narrowing on the pairs joint hands again.
"Well I'm sure there'll be more time for introductions later, I have to drop Amaya off back to the snake pit," Remus interrupted the conversation.
Amaya smiled at Grace, "I'll see you around, I can't wait to tell Jamie I finally met you."
"Yeah, yeah I'll tell my brother I met you."
Remus held Amaya's hand tighter and led her back to the snake pit. They held simple conversations talking about random things until they reached the entrance.
Amaya turned towards Remus and held his other hand, "I really enjoyed our little date," she smiled.
"D-date?" he stuttered. She thought of their meeting the same way as him, and liked it.
"Was it not one?" Amaya question, raising an eyebrow, loving how nervous she made him.
"No no, yes it was it was a date, I- I didnt um mean it like that I'm-"
He was cut off as Amaya reached up and kissed his cheek, causing him to freeze as he processed what happened.
She kissed him, she really kissed him. On the cheek but still. His hand reached to to the place where she just placed her lips.
"I'll see you Thursday, 7pm in the library Lupin," Amaya smiled as she headed towards the portrait.
"Thursday...7pm," he muttered back, staring at her as she walked into her common room.
Amaya smiled to herself, allowing a blush to spread across her face as she entered. She could get used to these dates with him.
