Chapter 26
There was an impending sign written across the sky, that morning, all the vampires look up and talk about the different darkness that they had experience. It has always been dark, the sky just appear shades darker than it usually does and it made them panic, thinking of a bad omen. The breeze was also a lot heavier and colder, as if not welcoming any of them like it usually does, appearing before like it was carresing their skin. The weather was rough, the people of the human workd would describe it as a heavy storm that will be landing on their area within an hour or so but they didn'took as bothered as humans. The Mother Queen and the king isn't bothered by it but she is.
" What are you looking at?" He ask, approaching her slowly.
" I was looking at them, the weather seem weird. It bothers me."
" It's a normal occurance for us here." He shrugs, he didn't look bothered of it but his eyes say something else. His eyes being in the window of his soul just seem like a transparent glass at this moment. He was worried too. "That shadow didn't make a move right?"
" There are no traces, he was that good. I don't know what he's planning on doing. "
" I'm so worried about it, I don't think I can enjoy tommorow. " She rubs her hand together in an attempt to calm herself but it didn't calm her, it makes the nervousness ignite even more.
"I can fight what's inside me, I've been doing it for hundred of years. I would never give in to what it desires."
Mikasa pursed her lips together, a queit sigh escaped on it and he hugs her, once again kissing the top of her head. " Why don't you enjoy this day today? The whole night tommorow will be ours."
Mikasa smiled, " Are you trying to beat me to it?"
She raised a brow. Her eyes showed a different glint as the red moon light had hit it, like it was full of desire.
" Tommorow, you will see what you've missed for hundred of years."
He was taken aback by the sudden action but he was able to recover so fast, almost like the speed of light entering the atmosphere or even faster than that.
" What I've missed? " He played dumb and her smirk grew wide.
" Yes, something you've been looking for. " she tilts her head.
" Anyway, we have something important to do. Your Majesty, king Yeager aren't you supposed to be supervising their experiment? It's your responsibility if it goes wrong since you had allowed it "
There was a big smile on her face, she appears to be feeling delightful as the glint on her eyes became even more vibrant. Suddenly, he doesn't feel so tired of all the meetings and signings he had done today, he smiles at her, his right hand moving to cup her right cheek and his left hand raising upwards to touch the excess hair in her face behind her ears. " You look very tired, have you been sleeping well? "
She nods, however it does not ease his worries.
" Yes, I'm fine. I'm fine. I told you I can handle it, didn't I? Trust me with this, won't you? "
" It's not like I doubt you. " He sighs, biting his lower lip.
" I was just worried of your heath, if the Queen fell ill, a lot will be damaged. "
" I know, I'll rest early. " She smiled, " it's not like I am an official Queen. "
" They considered you their Queen, my Queen. Should I get a ring just to prove it? " He ask, wondering what kind of ring he would create for her.
Mikasa laughs at his unfunny joke, shaking her head. " There's absolutely no need for that." She stops him. " .. besides, it's time already. You have to go."
"I want to stay with you."
"I know, but they are important. Do it now, I'll look over this pile of works. I'll get this done in no time. " She look at all the papers I front of her, the books are scattered along the floor.
" The scholars would be here in a minute, I don't want them to see us like this."
" Do I embarass you?" He uttered, concerned.
" No! They might be uncomfortable with such display, besides I don't like it when others see you like this. It's for me, exclusively." She taps his shoulder, so he let go of her, then she walks over to his back and started pushing him lightly to go out.
" Out now! " She commands.
" Out! They will be here soon, so go! "
" Ok, fine. " He agrees, leaning forward as he looks at his eyes. " .. but I'm looking forward to it! "
She snorts under his meaningful gaze, she tried to fight the smile that is slowly rising on her face but she ultimately fail causing them to smile together,mirroring each other's happy expression. "You should really go."
"If the Queen insists," He listened, his foot slowly drag itself farther from her. " Then, she shall be obeyed."
Eren, happily leaves her sight, not noticing the warmth on her cheeks.
After awhile, the scholars entered the room with wide smile that suggests that they had eavesdrop to their conversation yet she didn't scold them for that. They seem so happy, they had a wide smiles and as if they were trying to fight the glee in their bodies, they tried to shake it off, they appear like teenage girls fussing over their crushes for a moment. Mikasa cough successfully getting their attentions. " Now, shall we work on this?"
" Yes,your Majesty. We will do our very best for our beloved king."
The study for the ancient book was still ongoing, so far, they had only piece one page of the book, not even close to how many pages it has -the language is ancient and it is far too hard to decipher, the scholar who knows the language was also struggling to decipher it. It was almost useless at this point yet she does not give up for Eren is important to her. Flipping through the books everyday and not finding anything was exhausting, it hurts their brain. It was a frustrating thing to experience, everyday she grew more hopeless and not being able to express the love she has in her heart made it even more harder. They were both hesitating, she could feel it and it makes it even more terrifying. She wished she could read minds, have the power those other creatures had - the vampires couldn't read mind, a strange thing she remembered considering the amount of books that tells vampires could read mind and that they drink people's blood like a mosquito to keep them alive but it was different here.
"Aha!" The scholar who studied the ancient language gasp loudly with a big smile on his face, he move his round glasses as he stood up, he look at her eyes with a big proud smirk on his face and she couldn't help but be curious. " I've finally figured it out.. the way to remove the entity on the King's body was to… "
He flips the book excitedly and his wife smile soon faded upon decoding the next page of the book, disappointment filled his face as he avoids looking at her.
" Your Majesty, maybe there's another way.. other than this, I'm sure it's a worthless book.. " He nervously uttered, waiting for what she will say next but the Queen only look at him like he was nuts, she was clearly demanding him to continue.
" Your Majesty? " Mikasa gave him a stern look. " Please read the book and don't leave any information behind. "
The scholar nods, she could see him gulping as his lips quivered like he was nervous. It gave her a bad feeling and for a moment she didn't want to hear what he will say next, she was about to say something when Eren, so suddenly, enters the room like a madman– a different glow on his eyes and an aura even stronger than before. Everyone could hear the scream from outside the room, the scholar who had just figured out what was happening look at the Queen worriedly – this confidential thing had been disclosed with the scholars when Eren was in a deep slumber – they seem to be thinking, hesitating if they should run on their own or leave while dragging the Queen with them but before they could make a move, they found themselves thrown outside and the door locked on it's own. They could only hope that the Queen would be safe. It was the entity on his body again.
Mikasa sighs for a hundred time that day after seeing him, the air around them was thick and hot, like a burning furnace yet she refused to give him a reaction. Instead, she walks over the paper works, bend over to pick it up and she was about to get it, it violently flies across the room, Mikasa glared at the entity infront of her, refusing to say anything. It angers the entity, he demand attention but after a while it smiled sardonically.
" You want to get rid of me, right? I know how to.. but I don't want to tell you how, not unless–you were to force me. " It said gleefully, like it was enjoying her misery and she hated that. " We talk earlier, he was a little boring. "
It made a face like a sad kid before it looks at the blood tree, still with a sardonic grin, he waves his hand in the air as if leading a choir for a song, his hand stop waving after a while, pointing at the tree with a dark look on his face.
" Watch me do something I've been planning for years already."
Mikasa readies herself to attack but he notices, and didn't say anything. He doesn't feel threatened of a mere human being. " Planning for years? "
" Yes!! " He excitedly muttered like a kid and a dark look cast upon her face, glaring at him hatefully. He waves his hand again and in an instant the fruits from the blood tree explodes and the people start vomiting blood, in an instant, the serene place turns to a pond of blood. She was beyond petrified, involuntarily shaking in the process as she looks at him, still with an unwavering glare. Screams of horror soon followed, too loud, it hunts her, it made her shiver once more. The people who had drink the fruit has began decaying and within a second, they had become ashes, the strong wind blew them up in the sky. In her petrified state, she manage to stand up, and run.. run.. run.. until she couldn't run anymore, when she runs it feels like a continues nightmare as the vampires began to crumble, she sought to see the Mother Queen but.. she figured she was dead like all of them.. her family was also dead and because, she's the only human around, she would be left alone in this place.
The thoughts hunt her, she was running like the castle was an infinite loop and she couldn't find the way out of it. She wished this was a nightmare, she wish this was only a nightmare. Right, this is a nightmare. She convinces herself as she runs, tears streams down her face, her memories overlapping the pain she was feeling right now. All the happy memories with her family, her husband and all the people in the vampire world had made it even more harder, the tears are blurring her vision and she wish this would soon stop. Because this is a nightmare and nightmare doesn't please her, the screams of help continues as she runs away-run like a coward. She hears his voice, undeniably beautiful yet cruel.
" Eren, what should I do?" She loudly thinks. " Why can't you fight this man? Why don't you fight!?"
She felt like she was loosing her mind. She looks again, this time at Sasha who had also began turning into dust.
"Sasha!!" She desperately shouts, she said she would help but she only runs away. Overwhelmed, she could feel heaviness approaching her, grabbing her down as she slowly closes her eyes, wishing it was only a terrible nightmare.
