Sora's POV

It has been a month since the Boys' Volleyball Club was established. During this time, I have assumed the role of their unofficial coach due to my retained memories as a former volleyball player.

Drawing upon my expertise as a libero, I have laid the groundwork for teaching defensive techniques and positioning. Additionally, I have delved into the intricacies of serving, setting, spiking, and blocking, imparting my knowledge to the team members. I have honed their techniques while fostering their versatility and adaptability, encouraging each player to explore different positions.

The dedication and thirst for growth exhibited by the players have been inspiring. Some have discovered their natural affinity for specific positions, while others have eagerly embraced the challenge of exploring different roles. Our practice sessions have been filled with experimentation as players have swapped places, collaborated, and fine-tuned their skills.

Despite Koji and Izumi's commitments to other clubs, they have joined our practice sessions twice weekly, demonstrating their commitment to the team.

I have decided to fully immerse myself in volleyball practice, dedicating four weekly sessions to it. This means sacrificing some of my tennis practice time. Still, surprisingly, my tennis coach has been understanding and supportive of my decision. He recognizes my passion for helping Shoyo and the other team members.

When I read the Haikyuu manga, I couldn't help but feel remorseful that Shoyo never had a "proper" volleyball team during his middle school years. As his older twin brother, I strongly desired to alter this timeline and give him the opportunity he deserved.

Now, let's focus on the present moment.

It's 4:25 PM, and our volleyball practice will commence in five minutes. Shoyo and I are making our way to the gymnasium.

While walking, an idea suddenly strikes me. I wanted to recreate the quick attack that Shoyo and Kageyama did when they went to Karasuno.

I look excitedly at Shoyo and say, "Shoyo, I have an idea!"

Curious, Shoyo raises an eyebrow and asks, "What is it, Aniki?"

"Let's try executing a quick attack," I propose, a smile spreading across my face.

"A quick attack?" Shoyo echoes, clearly intrigued.

I approach him and enthusiastically explain, "Shoyo, a quick attack is a fast and powerful offensive move in volleyball. The setter swiftly sets the ball close to the net for the spiker, like yourself, to jump and hit it before the opposing blockers can react. It demands precise timing and coordination between the setter and the spiker, catching the opponents off guard and scoring points."

Noting Shoyo's questioning expression, I continue, "It's a commonly employed strategy that can be highly effective. The quick attack allows the spiker to hit the ball at its highest point, taking advantage of the limited reaction time of the blockers. It's an exhilarating move that can turn the game's tide in our favour!"

Shoyo's eyes widen with curiosity. "That sounds cool, Aniki! I've never attempted a quick attack, but I am up for the challenge. Let's try it during practice and see how well we can execute it!"

Encouraged by Shoyo's enthusiasm, we pick up the pace and head towards the gymnasium, eager to experiment with the quick attack and infuse a new dynamic into our volleyball play.

As we arrive at the gymnasium, the familiar sound of bouncing volleyballs and the energetic chatter of the team fills the air. The atmosphere is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming practice session.

Shoyo and I find an empty bench to store our belongings and quickly change into our volleyball attire. As we lace up our shoes, we exchange excited glances, ready to put our plan of executing the quick attack into action.

I gather the team and lead them through a thorough warm-up routine, emphasizing the importance of preparing our bodies for intense training. We stretch our muscles, engage in light exercises, and perform drills to get our blood flowing, and our minds focused.

With everyone warmed up and ready to begin the practice drills, I gathered the team in a circle at the centre of the court. The enthusiasm in their eyes mirrors my own, and I can sense the anticipation radiating from each player.

"Alright, team, let's start our practice drills," I announce, my voice projecting across the gymnasium. "Today, we will focus on refining our offensive plays and incorporating new strategies. But before we dive into that, I have a special surprise for you all."

The team exchanges curious glances, their interest piqued. I pause for a moment, allowing the suspense to build.

"Shoyo and I have been discussing a new offensive move that we want to try out today," I reveal, a playful smile spreading across my face. "We're going to attempt a quick attack!"

Excited murmurs ripple through the team as they exchange excited glances. They recognize this move's significance and its potential for elevating our gameplay.

"But first," I continue, "we'll go through our regular drills to warm up our skills. We'll focus on serving, passing, and setting. It's crucial to have a solid foundation before we introduce more advanced techniques."

I divide the team into groups and assign each group a specific drill. I take a moment to remind everyone of each drill's key points and goals, emphasizing the importance of technique and precision.

As the players disperse to designated areas, I approach Shoyo and Koji, who have eagerly positioned themselves together.

"Shoyo, Koji, I want you both to focus on your spiking technique during the drills," I instruct them. "Pay close attention to your approach, timing, and hitting form. These elements will be crucial for executing the quick attack successfully."

They nod in understanding, their determination evident in their expressions.

I observe each player's progress throughout the practice session, providing individual feedback and encouragement. The drills serve as a platform for the players to fine-tune their skills, build muscle memory, and enhance their overall coordination.

As the practice nears its end, I call the team together again.

"Great job, everyone!" I commend them, my voice filled with pride. "You've all shown tremendous growth and improvement today. It's time to put our new move, the quick attack, into action."

The team members exchange excited glances, their anticipation palpable.

Shoyo steps forward, radiating confidence. "I'm ready, Aniki. Let's show them what we've got!"

I nod, a sense of excitement coursing through me. "All right, Shoyo, let's start by practicing the timing between your approach and Koji's set. Remember, it's all about coordination and precision. Once we get that down, we'll focus on executing the quick attack in a game-like situation."

With renewed determination, the team gathers on one side of the court. At the same time, Koji positions himself as the setter near the net. Shoyo readies himself for the approach.

"Ready...set...go!" I call out, signaling the start.

Shoyo explodes into action, sprinting toward the net, his eyes locked on Koji. Koji skillfully sets the ball as he reaches the optimal hitting position, placing it just above the net.

In a fluid motion, Shoyo leaps into the air, his arm cocked back, and with precise timing, he smashes the ball down over the net, sending it hurtling toward the opposing side.

The sound of the ball meeting the floor resonates through the gymnasium, and the team erupts into cheers and applause.

"That was incredible, Shoyo!" I exclaimed, beaming with pride. "Your timing and coordination were spot on. Let's integrate the quick attack into our gameplay and surprise our opponents!"

I was once again surprised by this. In the anime or manga, Shoyo and Kageyama struggled to do their quick attacks. But once again, this Shoyo is just built different.

With the taste of success lingering in the air, the team resumes their positions, ready to incorporate the quick attack into their repertoire. The gymnasium reverberates with the sounds of their focused footsteps, the rhythmic thuds of the ball, and the shared excitement of a team united in their pursuit of greatness.

As the team continued to practice, I decided to take on the setter role for a while, allowing Koji to focus on refining his skills in other areas. This change will enable me to contribute to the team's offensive strategies and enhance coordination.

With Shoyo's improved approach and my experience as a libero, I am confident that we can make the quick attack a powerful weapon for our team. I approach Shoyo with a determined look on my face.

"Shoyo, let's switch things up for a moment. I'll take on the setter role, and you can focus solely on your spiking. This way, we can fine-tune our coordination and make the quick attack even more effective."

Shoyo's eyes light up with excitement, and he nods eagerly. "Sounds great, Aniki! Let's give it a try."

With the team's support, we adjust our positions on the court. I position myself close to the net, ready to set the ball accurately and quickly. Shoyo readies himself, his eyes locked on me, waiting for the perfect moment to launch his attack.

We start with slow and deliberate movements, practising the timing and coordination required for a quick attack. I focus on delivering precise sets, placing the ball in the optimal position for Shoyo to spike.

"Ready...set...go!" I call out, and the action begins.

Shoyo explodes into his approach, his movements fluid and powerful. I set the ball just above the net, and with perfect timing, Shoyo jumps and smashes it down with force, leaving the opposing blockers stunned.

The ball hits the ground, and the team's roar of excitement erupts. Our quick attack has the potential to become a formidable weapon.

As we continue practising, the timing between us improves. Shoyo's confidence soars, and he becomes more comfortable with his spiking technique. I focus on delivering consistent and accurate sets, adjusting my positioning and timing to complement Shoyo's strengths.

Throughout the practice, we experiment with different angles, speeds, and variations of the quick attack. We work on adapting to various game situations, learning to read the defense and exploit their weaknesses.

The team watches in awe as we execute the quick attack flawlessly, point after point. Their admiration fuels our determination to perfect this technique and maximize its effectiveness on the court.

At the end of the practice, sweat dripping from our brows, Shoyo approaches me with a wide smile. "Aniki, the quick attack is amazing! I can't believe how much we've improved. I'm so grateful for your guidance."

I grin back at him, feeling a sense of fulfilment. "Shoyo, your growth has been incredible. But remember, it's not just me. It's the entire team working together, supporting, and pushing each other to improve. Together, we'll continue to elevate our game and achieve great things."

===========================================

As we walk home, the weight of upcoming competitions hangs in the air. Interhigh, the pinnacle of high school volleyball, is fast approaching, and I can sense the nervousness building within Shoyo.

"Shoyo, Interhigh is coming very soon," I say, breaking the silence.

He sighs, his voice tinged with anxiety, "Aniki, thank you for reminding me, but it's making me nervous."

From the anime or manga, I remembered Shoyo was so nervous to the point that he will vomit in the bathroom. Also, the inter-high is where Kageyama and Shoyo first met.

Wanting to ease his worries, I gently pat his back and offer reassurance.

"Don't worry, Shoyo, we can do this!" I say, a confident smile gracing my face.

Shoyo's eyes meet mine, his anxious expression softening. "Yeah, you're right," he responds, a flicker of determination shining through. "I think we got this."

His response brings warmth to my heart. I can see his growing confidence, and I know that together, we can face any challenge that comes our way.

"But wait! What about your tennis tournament?" Shoyo suddenly asks, his concern shifting from his own nerves to mine.

I chuckle and ruffle his hair affectionately. "Don't worry, Shoyo, the Middle School Tennis Interhigh tournament will happen three weeks after the volleyball tournament. I've discussed it with my tennis coach, and he's supportive of my commitment to the volleyball club."

Shoyo's face lights up with relief, and a playful grin emerges. "Ah, so you've managed to find a way to balance both sports, huh?"

I nod, a twinkle in my eyes. "That's right. I couldn't let go of my passion for tennis entirely, but right now, my focus is on helping you and the team succeed in Interhigh."

Shoyo's smile widens, and he nudges me playfully. "Well, I appreciate your dedication, Aniki. Let's give it our all in the upcoming tournament!"

We continue our walk, the weight of nervousness gradually lifting as we share our hopes and plans. The road ahead may be filled with challenges, but our unwavering determination and the support we offer one another will guide us through.

As we arrive home, the warmth of our shared resolve lingers in the air. With each passing day, our bond as brothers and teammates strengthens, fueling our passion for the game and propelling us toward the grand stage of Interhigh. Together, we are ready to face whatever lies ahead, supporting each other every step of the way.
