During practice, Maddie found herself unable to take her eyes off the new dancer, who went by the name of Ethan. Their eyes met for a brief moment during a complicated dance routine, and she could feel the intensity in his gaze before they both returned to their performance.

Day of the competition
____________________________________

The junior elite competition team, along with Ethan, eagerly made their way towards the grand venue, buzzing with excitement as the day of the competition finally arrived. As they approached the entrance, they took in the vibrant yet intimidating atmosphere that filled the air.

Amongst the frenzy, Cathy from Candy Apples Dance Company appeared to be waiting for someone. She spotted Ethan and the girls and immediately strutted towards them, a smug smile playing at her lips.

"Well, well," Cathy said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "If it isn't Abby Lee Miller's precious little stars. What's this I see? Ethan holding hands with both Brooke and Maddie? It must be hard trying to keep up with two girls at once."

The team glanced at each other uncomfortably while Abby Lee Miller clenched her teeth, readying herself to unleash a verbal assault on Cathy for her unwanted comment. However, before Abby could say anything, Ethan stepped forward confidently.

"Actually Cathy," he said calmly, "We're all just good friends here, supporting each other before a big competition. Something you might not understand since you're always busy stirring up drama."

Abby Lee Miller couldn't help but crack a proud smile as Cathy's face turned beet red from embarrassment. The girls exchanged glances and silently cheered for Ethan's courage in standing up for himself and his friends.

Composing herself but still visibly frustrated, Cathy muttered a half-hearted "good luck" before storming away from the group towards her own team.

Despite the unnecessary tension brought about by Cathy's presence, Abby and her dancers continued into the competition with renewed determination in their eyes. As they began to scale up their focus on their routines and winning strategies to put on an incredible performance, they knew they had each other's backs in navigating through such clashes—and that unity only served to strengthen their bond as a team even more.

The tension was still high after Ethan had told off Cathy. The group gathered in the rehearsal room to practice their dance for the upcoming competition, each dancer trying to focus on perfecting their moves. Abby Lee Miller, their demanding dance instructor, scrutinized every movement, checking for any imperfections that might cost them a win.

For the hundredth time, Abby stopped the music and glared at Kendall and Nia. "Girls, I don't know how many times I have to tell you this. Your timing is off, and your footwork is sloppy! Get it together!"

Kendall and Nia exchanged apologetic glances before getting back into position. As they repeated the dance routine again and again, Abby's frustration grew. Finally, after another unsuccessful run-through, she threw her hands up in exasperation.

"Enough! We're changing things up," Abby declared, her tone brooking no dissent.

Minutes before they were scheduled to go on stage at the competition, Abby made an unexpected announcement that sent ripples of shock throughout the group. "Ethan and Maddie, you'll be doing a duet together," she said briskly. "And Ethan and Brooke will follow with another duet of their own."

The dancers looked at one another in disbelief – they had never rehearsed these duets before. It was clear they would have to rely solely on their improvisational skills while on stage.

The moms were furious at this sudden change and didn't hesitate to share their displeasure.

"How can you expect them to perform a duet they've never even practiced?" demanded Melissa, Maddie's mom.

"Ethan has already caused enough trouble today," added Christi, Chloe's mom. "It seems like you're rewarding his behavior."

Abby crossed her arms defensively as the other moms chimed in with their complaints. "Believe it or not, these duets are for the good of the children."

"You know what, Abby? This is ridiculous! Why does Ethan get two duets while Chloe is just in the group dance?" Christi snapped, her face flushed with anger.

"Christi, please calm down. I'm assigning these roles based on what I think will be best for the team at this competition," Abby replied tersely.

"Well, I think you're playing favorites!" Christi shot back, her voice rising in volume.

As their argument escalated, Ethan could see Maddie and Brooke growing increasingly uncomfortable. He could feel Mackenzie's anxiety rising as well since she looked up to both Maddie and Chloe. Deciding it was time to take matters into his own hands, Ethan enveloped Maddie and Brooke in a reassuring hug.

"Come on Mackenzie," he said gently. "I think it's best if we step out of the room while they sort this out."

Leading them away from the confrontation, Ethan brought them to a quieter area where they could choose new songs for their two separate duets. He wanted to do everything in his power to make this competition a fair and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

As the four of them huddled together listening to different song options on Ethan's phone, a newfound sense of camaraderie washed over them all. They knew that no matter how intense the competition or dramatic their instructors could be, they would always have each other's backs on and off the stage.

Meanwhile, back in the rehearsal room, Christi and Abby continued arguing, their voices growing more heated by the moment. Little did they know that their relentless bickering was only pushing the dancers closer together and making them even stronger as a team.

As the day of the competition rapidly approached, all eyes were on the dance studio, eagerly waiting to see how the other dancers do.

The dim lights of the theater cast a mystical spell on the audience, as a hush spread through the room. The announcer's voice echoed in the tense silence. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Brooke and Ethan to the stage, performing their breathtaking forbidden love duet – 'Never Again.'"

Brooke and Ethan's duet

(I love this duet)
As Ethan and Brooke stepped onto the stage, a soft golden light enveloped them. They were strikingly beautiful together, their bodies poised and confident yet exuding an inexplicable vulnerability.

The first few notes of the melancholic melody filled the air, and Brooke and Ethan locked eyes, a burning passion radiating from their gaze. They began moving in harmony, their limbs gracefully intertwining like two flourishing vines.

There was something undeniably magnetic about their connection – a fierce pull that threatened to consume them both entirely, but they danced with an intensity that dared to defy their fate. They held onto each other like a lifeline just as much as it was a curse.

Their dance told the tale of two star-crossed lovers yearning for each other's touch, desperate to break the shackles that bound them apart. Ethan lifted Brooke effortlessly into the air as if she were lighter than air itself, spinning her with tender precision. Her lithe figure floated delicately through the air before landing back into his awaiting arms.

Every leap Brooke took was flawlessly timed with Ethan's movements as he caught her without missing a beat. Their trust in each other was undeniably evident in every intense pirouette and poised arabesque, creating a dazzling display of raw emotion and technical brilliance.

As the music swelled towards its poignant crescendo, the forbidden lovers drew nearer to each other, faces inches away from one another, lips trembling with anticipation. It was as if time itself had stopped; they seemed suspended in space – everything but their breathless longing drowned out by the haunting melody.

But just when it seemed as though their lips would finally meet, Brooke pulled away abruptly, leaving Ethan gasping for her touch. Their bodies barely brushed against each other in a tantalizing farewell as the music came to an abrupt end.

The audience, mesmerized by the exquisite performance they had just witnessed, erupted into thunderous applause. Abby was surprised because this was all improv, but she knew if she couldn't win in this department she still had Maddie.

Maddie's and Ethan's duet

The lights dimmed as the audience chattered in anticipation. The announcer's voice echoed through the room, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Maddie and Ethan, performing a dance duet to 'Love Never Dies'."

A spotlight illuminated the center of the stage, revealing Maddie - an 10-year-old girl with brunette curls that bounced as she walked. She wore a delicate, white dress that floated around her like a cloud. Beside her stood Ethan, a tall 11-year-old boy with slick back brown hair and a confident smile. He was dressed in a classic black suit that complemented Maddie's airy attire.

As the music began to play, their eyes met, and they moved gracefully into position. Despite the age gap between them, they shared an undeniable chemistry that captivated everyone in the room. With each note of "Love Never Dies" sung by the orchestra, their emotional connection seemed to grow stronger.

Ethan gently took Maddie's small hand in his as they glided across the stage together. Their movements were seamless and effortlessly in sync - a testament to their dedication to their craft. Maddie leapt into Ethan's arms like a feather falling from the sky. He caught her with ease and care, sending whispers of admiration through the audience.

As the music swelled, Ethan lifted Maddie high above his head while she extended her arms and legs into an elegant pose. The audience held their breath as they watched this exquisite display of strength and trust unfold before them.

The song began to reach its climax, and Maddie broke away from Ethan for a brief yet haunting solo that exuded maturity beyond her years. Her movements were poetic and powerful – commanding the attention of everyone in awe of her talent.

Ethan joined her once more for their final moments on stage together. Their dance seamlessly melded together and they ran off in different directions. The crowd cheers so loud.

The group dance

The spotlight shone brightly on the stage, the audience buzzing with anticipation. The announcer's voice boomed through the auditorium, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage... Abby Lee Dance Company!" The crowd erupted in applause as the dancers took their positions.

On stage, Ethan, Maddie, and Brooke stood at the apex of a love triangle formation, surrounded by four other dancers. The music began to play—a soft, enchanting melody perfect for telling a story of hidden love.

As the dance commenced, it was evident that there was something truly special about this performance. The chemistry between Ethan and Maddie was undeniable; their movements perfectly in sync as they weaved in and out of one another's arms. Brooke watched from afar, her heart aching with hidden affection for both of them.

The four background dancers swirled around the trio like a whirlwind. Their fluid movements complimented and contrasted those of the main characters, adding depth and intricacy to the story unfolding before the rapt audience.

Ethan lifted Maddie effortlessly into the air during a stunning aerial sequence; their eyes locked on each other while Maddie's legs wrapped around his waist. At that moment, Brooke couldn't help but feel her stomach twist with desire.

As if sensing her presence, Ethan looked over at Brooke before releasing Maddie gently back onto the floor. He exchanged an intense gaze with Brooke before quickly turning away to continue dancing with Maddie.

The performance continued with stunning leaps and turns that showcased the dancers' skill and grace. Each movement seemed to reflect the feelings that remained unspoken between them—longing met with melancholy for what might have been.

As music crescendoed towards its climax, all three main characters converged at the center of the stage. The spotlight dimmed to encapsulate them in an awe-inspiring instant where Ethan goes to kiss Maddie, but Brooke than grabs her and runs off the stage. Ethan then drops when he and everyone else can feel his heart break.
