HARPERS POINT OF VIEW

The past few days have felt like an actual bliss. Everything was good between me and Mia. Of course, we still had to pretend we were just friends at school but I decided that that wasn't gonna bother me anymore. It didn't matter what other people thought, because I'd have her.

I've always been the romantic type. The one to buy flowers, to plan dates and surprises, even when I was with Liam. Now, it was a challenge to be my usual romantic self because I didn't want anybody to see it. Luckily, I'm not usually the one to run away from a challenge. Which meant that the flowers turned into sweet texts during the day, the surprises into love notes in Mia's lockers and the dates at locations nobody will know us.

What I needed now though, was a moment for just the two of us where we didn't have to pretend. So I invited Mia over for dinner, since my parents know the full story and promised not to tell anyone. I have always been so lucky to have them as my parents and that they fully support me. We would eat pasta for dinner, as a reminder of our first date. See, still some romance involved.

The day went on as usual. The reason behind it may not have been great, but I did enjoy me and Alex becoming closer again. We used to be best friends, but that was before I met Mia and the two of us grew inseparable. Alex and I just outgrew each other, which was fine, but now we found our way back to one another. I liked it.

The classes I didn't share with Mia, I sat next to Alex and we chatted about everything. I noticed Mia giving us a few side eyes during lunch time because for an outsider it might look like Alex is flirting with me. But that wasn't the case, he was just being a nice and good friend to me, something I really appreciated.

I did see it really bothered Mia that Alex and I were so close again, so whenever Alex took a step towards me, I took a small step back so we wouldn't stand too close to each other. Sometimes it looked like he didn't really get the memo, because he would just take a step towards me again, but I was sure he didn't mean anything by it.

When classes were over, Mia and I made our way towards my house. On our way, Mia turned to me and asked:

"Are you sure your parents don't hate me?"

I giggled a bit, but I could see Mia was serious so I responded:

"Of course they don't hate you, how could they ever hate someone that makes their daughter so happy?"

Even though I could see Mia's face light up a bit, there was still some doubt.

"You talked to your dad about the situation right, when I made you feel so miserable. They know I have hurt you in the past and I don't know if they forgave me for it."

I saw guilt wash over Mia's face and I took her hands in mine.

"As you said, it is in the past. My parents don't hold any grudges towards you or whatsoever. I think the more important question is whether you forgave yourself for it."

Mia shook her head lightly.

"I don't think I did. I hope I made up for it a bit these past few weeks but I still feel horrible about it when I think about it. It might take a while for me to fully understand that nobody is angry at me."

I held onto Mia even more tightly.

"I understand and that's totally valid. Good thing we have all the time in the world, because I am not going anywhere."

If we weren't in public, we would have kissed right there. But we were and even if we wouldn't have been a secret I'm not the biggest fan of making out in front of everybody either way.

So we waited until we were home. My parents weren't there yet so when we got into the living room Mia took her chance and kissed me like she hadn't in years. Not that you would hear me complaining or anything. I quite enjoyed it.

After our little make out session, we poured ourselves a drink and started to talk. It started with how things were going at school and with classes and it quickly went to me and Alex.

"Alex definitely has a crush on you Harp, I'm sure of it."

I guess it bothered Mia more than I realized.

"Babe, I don't think he does. And even if he does, I don't feel anything towards him and nothing will ever happen. But if you want me to create more distance between us, I would do that."

I was met with complete silence, which left me wondering what I did wrong.

"A-a-are you okay?" I asked.

Mia snapped out of whatever zone she was in and replied.

"Yes sorry, I was still stuck on the part that you called me babe."

My cheeks flushed red. I didn't realize this was the first time I called her babe. Before I could to ask if it made her uncomfortable, Mia said:

"I liked it, you should do that more often," she paused for a second, 'babe', she added with a wink.

I giggled, like the in love teenage girl I was.

"Anyways, back to what you were saying. I definitely believe you when you say nothing will ever happen between you and Alex. I trust you. So you don't have to distance yourself from him, but if he ever makes a move please just let me know. As long as we are honest about it then I am okay with it." Mia said.

I gave her a smile and said "That sounds like an amazing plan from my amazing girlfriend."

Mia adjusted herself so she was laying in my arms on the couch.

"Speaking of people at school, did you hear anything from Liam ever again?" she asked.

She has a good point, did I?

"No, I don't think so. Not after I told him I had feelings for you I think." I said.

Mia sat up straight right away.

"You did what?"

"Liam came to me when you and I weren't really on speaking terms. He asked if I would take him back, but I told him I had feelings for you. And I didn't want him back anyways, because he is an ass."

I didn't expect Mia to be upset about this, but she was.

"Why did you never tell me this? Isn't it a bit risky that he knows how you feel?"

"I never told you because, as I said, we weren't talking to each other at that point and when we finally were I didn't think it was that relevant. And I don't think it's risky because I didn't tell him about your feelings, because I didn't even know what those were back then. Babe, it's been in the past. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, maybe I should have. Can we move on from this now?"

Mia smiled and said

"How could I ever say no to you when you keep calling me 'babe'. It's making me blush. Anyways, I got a bit freaked out but you're right. You never had to tell me because it's indeed not relevant and he wouldn't know about our relationship now. I just got a bit jealous because Liam was trying to steal my girl, that's all."

We both chuckled at her words.

"Your girl, huh?" I like the sound of that."

Mia leaned back into my arms again and I was about to give her a kiss when we heard the front door opening. But to our surprise, we didn't hear just my parents. When Mia saw her mom looking at us, she jumped up and acted like nothing had happened.

My mom looked apologetic to me and when I checked my phone, I saw I had three missed calls and a few missed texts. All saying:

"HARPER, NORA IS JOINING US SO MAKE SURE YOU'RE NOT MAKING OUT ON THE COUCH WHEN WE GET HOME IN ABOUT FIVE MINUTES."

I unfortunately forgot that my phone was on silent. I was not sure this would go well.
