"Can you tell me why you put a blanket in the back of my car now?" Salem interrogated Chris once the pair got into the car.
"I thought maybe we could go star gazing since you know. We already ate, and the weather's nice, and there's a park nearby." Salem stayed still in her seat staring at Chris.
"How do you always manage to come up with really cute dates?" they questioned.
"What can I say, Im just like that." He admitted while shrugging his shoulders. "You got lucky"
"Oh yeah so lucky." She bragged sarcastically as she started the car. "Wheres the park."
It took almost 15 minutes of driving around aimlessly trying to find the park and going in circles for Chris to finally put the directions to the park. Once the car was in park Chris got the blanket from the back seat and they headed to a small empty area on a patch of grass, setting down the blanket and lying down.
"Oh my god I have my silly little constellation app on my phone" Salem recalled as she pulled her phone out of her pocket and tilted it to the sky.
"That is.. Ursa Major.. why does it look like that.. hold on." she commented while giggling at the drawing of the constellation.
"What is that supposed to be?" Chris laughed along.
"It looks like an oversized beaver!" Salem pointed out as she began to laugh loudly, Chris laughing along almost immediately.
The pair stayed lying down on the grass laughing and giggling at some of the drawings of the constellations. However, Chris was looking more at Salem than he was at her phone. He observed how her eyes would form types of crescents or fully shut when she would laugh. Admiring every small detail. Like how wide her smile was and now her hair fell beside her face. Yet he still found himself blushing. After almost five months of being in an official relationship, he still found himself blushing whenever he looked at her. He found himself looking away quickly in case Salem was to turn her head and catch him staring. The only place he could look was up, at the sky and the stars glistening through the night, and the moon.
"The moon is beautiful isn't it?" he blurted, catching Salem's attention.
"Were you actually complementing the moon or did you just say what I think you said." They questioned turning their head to face Chris.
"Depends. What is it you think I said." he edged on.
"The more poetic way of saying 'I love you' in Japanese. Or something like that I could be off." she explained trying to act like she didn't know what she was saying.
"Oh. Then yeah." Salem's gaze snapped from the sky above them to Chris, while his stayed focused on the stars.
"Didn't think you were going to be so straightforward about it." Salem admitted.
"Me neither honestly," he confessed.
"Well I think the moon is beautiful too," she admitted.
"Aww you said it back!" he teased, poking Salem's arm.
"Shut up you're the one that made this all corny."
"It's about to get cornier. Remember when I asked what your favorite rock, crystal, whatever it is, is called?" he asked.
"Yeah, why? Where is this going?"
"So I may or may not have found a little ring shop," He explained while pulling out a tiny ring from his pocket and handing it over to Salem. "and I got you one, 'cause they kinda reminded me of you."
"Chris." Salem reached over grabbing the ring and admiring it in the moonlight.
"It's moonstone. I really only picked it because it has moon in it and you really like the moon. I also got one for myself, so now we have matching rings." Chris smiled.
"If you don't mind me asking. In what context is this ring being given to me?" Salem asked.
"Promise ring?"
"What are we promising?" Salem queried.
"To communicate with each other, not hurt each other. So the bare minimum to a healthy relationship really." Chris reached for Salem's hand and intertwined them.
"I don't want us to hurt each other, I don't want to hurt you. If I do hurt you... you can beat my ass." The pair chuckled. "If you put the ring on, then the promise is sealed."
Without a second thought, Salem slipped the ring onto her ring finger on their right hand.
"You are, the best first boyfriend, I could ever ask for," Salem confessed, giving Chris a peck. "thank you."
The couple could not ask for anything more. At the moment, nothing else mattered. It was just them, together, and that's all they needed. The pair stayed laying on the grass in comfortable silence, smiling to themselves, and to the sky and universe above them. And unbeknownst to them, the universe was smiling right back. For if they knew of not, they were destined. And the universe was going to do anything and everything, to keep them together.

The end of an era.
I really want to thank everyone that read this book while writing and put up with my very inconsistent updating schedule. In a way I'm kinda emotional bc I've been writing this book for almost a year. Thank u to those who find the book when it's marked as complete and read it. I hope everyone has a great morning, day, evening, night, spring, summer, fall, winter, or any holiday.
