Jerejean is not canon, sadly *tears of anger in the distance*. Jean canonically dates Renee but they don't end up together in the end. In the extra content on her tumblr, Nora explains that Renee gets a husband and that in every other draft Jean killed himself because of his trauma from the nest.
However, the fandom at large took one look at Jeremy and the way the Trojans took in Jean and said 'nah, Jerejean and Renisson are the real deal here'. From the outside, Jerejean looks like a sunshine times grump ship, Solangelo if Nico was taller and French.
But at its heart, Jerejean is Jean, suffering from years of psychological, physical, and sexual abuse with the Ravens, moved out West and met Jeremy a little bundle of sunshine in human form who took him in and decided that he deserved love. Deserved respect and appreciation. It is about slow recovery and acceptance and all things wonderfully.
Sorry, Jerejean makes me so emotional. I love Jean and he deserves someone as caring as Jeremy.
