My name is Scott. Scott Hoying. I'm 15 years old and it's nearly summer vacation.

My whole life I've lived in seclusion. See when I was two, my dad left. My mom, like any other sane person would when one they love leaves, she had a small mental break down. We used to live in a normal suburban area with other... well, people. She had us move away to a fucking. Cabin. Yes you heard me right, ever since I was two I've lived in a cabin. She told me she's always had a dream to live in a cabin and now that dream is a reality. I love my mother to death but sometimes she drives me crazy. I have two neighbors, both extremely elderly couples and probably ready to pass any second. None of their grandkids ever visit so my life is extremely dull. At least we have good internet connection.

I go to a school that is exactly 1 hour and 7 minutes away from my home. School bus rides get boring so I timed it. There is only one week left of my freshman year of high school and I couldn't be more ecstatic honestly. I won't really be having an eventful summer on account I don't have a lot of friends, and the ones I do have I never get to hang out with. But an uneventful summer is what I really want anyways. Just relaxation, and a whole lot of internet time. Plus I heard tell that one of my neighbors is moving out. Maybe someone interesting will come along? Maybe it will be like one of those movies where the lonely kid (me) lives an uneventful life, and then BAM new girl moves in across the street. I could possibly get a super hot girlfriend over the summer! Okay obviously I'm over thinking this. It will probably just be another elderly couple wasting their days away in a small cabin just like the rest of us.

-------------------------------

I just got home from my last day of school. Summer break has officially started and honestly it doesn't feel real yet. I guess it will take some time to set in that I have no more homework, no more crazy teachers, no more assemblies, and no more annoying boys calling me gay. Seriously? I mean first of all that's a terrible insult, and second, I'm not even gay. In fact I'm a pretty broad kid, for 15, I don't even fit the stereotypical gay person. Okay that was kind of rude I know that there are lots of different types of gay people. All I'm saying is that it's a dumb thing to call someone.

Sorry I got lost for a little. Oh I forgot to mention that the rumors were true! There's a new family moving in next to me. They are supposed to come tomorrow which is exciting. My mom and I are making some cookies to give to them, I think she's excited that there might be a woman her age which could be exactly what she needs. I'm afraid that my mom is very lonely, especially now that I'm in high school. I don't have as much time for her as I used to. She's really hopeful for a new friend though and I hope she gets that. Even if they don't have someone my age, I really hope she makes a friend.

Now that I've dabbled in the conversation of new neighbors for a bit I want to go over something. I know that I might say I hate my house a lot. I have a lot of complaints. But honestly I just hate WHERE I live. My house is actually fantastic. It's really beautiful and my room is really large. Our home is two stories, well technically it is. The top floor is just a loft space, and that's where my room is. I have the whole upstairs to myself! It's honestly amazing. I also have a huge window which I'm very grateful for. Not much goes on around here but when it does I always have a front seat show to it. Like the time one of Mrs. Dubose's cows got loose and she was chasing them down our dirt road! That was fantastic. I wish I had a video camera to film it with. Note to self: get a video camera. That could be a fun hobby over break.

------------------------------

Today is the day. New neighbors are moving in. I just said goodbye to Mrs. Dubose and her husband about an hour ago. I was sort of sad to see them leave but they told me that the new family is coming from a city. Like an actual city with take out and skyscraper buildings and probably like 17 different Starbucks right next to each other. They also said there was a son. No daughters, sadly, but one son that is my age. I'm very hopeful he's not a massive dick like most of the guys I know. Crossing my fingers.

I have been looking out the window for about 20 minutes now just waiting for anything. It's now 3pm and I'm very hungry. I decide that I should be good for five minutes so I run downstairs and quickly make some ramen. The food of champions. Just my luck, right as I get back upstairs and look out the window, there they come. I can see a massive moving truck just pulled into the driveway of my previous neighbor's house, as well as a small car. I ditch my food and run downstairs as quick as I could, throwing on shoes and checking my hair. I grab the plate of cookies, shove one in my mouth, and walk out the door.

I look toward the truck and see a woman step out of the driver's seat of the car. I was about 20 feet away from her when she looked up at me with a hopeful smile on her face. I could see a boy in the passenger's seat of the car but I didn't look too closely before she began talking to me.

"Hello! Do you live around here?" she said extremely nice. She had long brown hair that was tied up in a ponytail as well as a t-shirt with some jean shorts. She looked about as old as my mom which got me very excited. I know she will love this woman.

"Yeah I live right next door actually with my mom. I'm Scott by the way." I said as I shook her hand. She noticed the cookies so I handed them to her. "We heard you were coming today so we made these last night, as a welcoming present! Not many people live around here and we figured a nice welcome would be nice."

"Thank you so much." She spoke. "We really appreciate it."

Just then, the door to the passenger's seat of the car that she had been standing in front of opened slightly. I heard a very... feminine voice call out, "Hey mom you're kinda standing in front of where I need to get out. It's hot in here!" I also heard Beyoncé playing quietly from the stereo... nice taste in music.

"Oh honey I'm sorry!" She giggled as she stepped away.

I stood there and looked at him as he got out. I looked at him and I couldn't look away.

Suddenly I felt very self-conscious as I looked down at my khaki shorts that were way too big on me, my old camp t-shirt from 7th grade, and to pull it off, a pair of worn down and very dirty flip flops. Also my hair probably looked a mess.

I'm not sure what his name is but he is beautiful. He had on perfectly fit black skinny jeans, a loose fitting shirt that had something written in French maybe? He wore a pair of stark white converse that popped lovely with his all black outfit, and his hair was styled so beautifully. It was shaved on the sides but his long fringe hung over the side of his face. His prominent nose stood out in the best way and his eyes, well I would lie if they say they didn't sparkle a bit.

That's about when I realized he was looking directly at me, with his sparkling brown eyes. I had been staring for quite some time I suppose. Should I say something?

"Hey blondie. What's up?" he laughed. Oh god his laugh.

"I- I just came to give you cookies. Oh and say welcome. Welcome to your cabin. I mean these three cabins here. Well not all of them only this one is yours. How do you keep your shoes so clean?" It just all came out of me and I didn't know how to stop it.

"Woah that was a lot that you just said. Are you okay?" He questioned, stepping closer toward me.

"Sorry I'm fine. I just am not used to seeing people a lot since I've lived out here my whole life." I said nervously as I looked down at my shoes and really anything else around so I wouldn't get lost in his eyes again.

"Well boys I'm going to help unpack some things." His mother began talking. Oh shit I forgot she was still there. That's embarrassing. "I'll put your boxes in your room so you can unpack later, okay Mitchie?"

"Mom!" He hissed at her. "Don't call me that in front of... other people." He whispered at her.

"Right sorry my bad dear." She laughed and patted him on the head. "I'll let you get on with... whatever this is." She winked at him and left us. What did she mean by that?

I looked back at... well I guess his name is Mitch. I looked back at Mitch to find him blushing. I guess they have a weird inside joke or something.

"So you wanna show me around here or what blondie?" He said, kind of seductively if I'm being truthful.

"Yeah of course!" I said, way too excited. He laughed though so I took it as a good sign. "My name is Scott by the way."

"I'm Mitch. Oh and if you call me Mitchie I WILL kill you, no hesitation." He said with all seriousness.

I knew exactly how to handle this. "Well then lets go Mitchie. Wouldn't want you to get lost around here, the woods can be pretty scary." I smirked playfully, knowing it would make him mad.

He began to pout and I apologized, us both laughing it off.

This new neighbor could be fun.
