"hello?"

almost audibly, the blondes breath seemed to hitch as he momentarily went silent on the other line. indigo's heart thumped in his chest, relentless in its ability to conjure nerve before the girl on the bed next to him smacked him hard, bringing back life to his senses as he jumped hard.

"..hey." indigo murmured, his smoothened accent as soft as it could be yet obviously tense, clear by the hesitancy lightly sprinkled upon his statement. it was one that jae could hear through the phone that seemed to tug on his person, dragging him right into the current of a somewhat invigorating rush of adrenaline; one that made the back of his neck cramp, his face warm and tense, lips drawn in a slight playful anticipation already reminded of their weakness.

"am i still in trouble?" jae asked, his voice a bit too smooth for the blonde on the other line who immediately angered, rolling his chocolate orbs but not being able to conceal the twinkle that seemed to alight in them much too fast for somebody whom had claimed so much disdain for the person on the other line. yet, it was obvious- almost painfully clear to the blondes best friend who simply eyed him as she sat in the left corner of the bed, her hazel eyes empty as smoke poured from her pierced nose.

"shut up." indigo murmured, the underlying beat of his heart more than a mere whisper in his ear as he swallowed, anxious. "you told me to call you."
"i did." jae smiled. "i didn't think you were going to."
"why wouldn't i?"
"last time i saw you you were throwing my clothes in my face my love."
"and you was bein a bitch, what's the difference?"

"i was telling the truth." jae hummed. "should i have done something otherwise?"
"that wasn't the truth, it was some-"

"you know.. usually when someone runs away from your house and flees the state after kissing on you and telling you they love you for three months straight you do tend to be a little disappointed- or, maybe look for them.. or is that just me?"

whatever it was indigo thought he was going to say was pitifully ceased, hitched right in the back of his drying throat as he simply muted the phone. barely turning his head, indigo eyed aitana out of the corner of his dark orbs, exchanging a mutual stare of what could only be called astonishment- the same one he already found aitana offering.

"cause why is he tryna.."
"eat you up." aitana finished, not helping the slight amusement she got from the look of bafflement upon indigo's bare features, his pierced nose slightly flared as he pursed his lower lip. "good, yo ass need it."
"shut up hater." indigo glared, swiftly accepting the joint the latina handed to him before unmuting the call. the blonde couldn't help but to stiffen with a slight, hesitant silence; jae wasn't wrong in the slightest and that was the problem. the tight accountability jae seemed to want to hold him to in the moment was just in its' correction, but for somebody who had ran from it all his life, rather conflicting. it seemed as if for jae, nothing was off the table- dangerous, especially when indigo could barley force himself to sit down at it, knowing that if he stayed too long, the pounding of his heart and dryness of his eyes and dance of his stomach would become increasingly worse until he had no choice but to feel the gentle undertones of need and guilt all inflicted by that smooth voice consistently full of nothing but praises, tempting him with thoughts of things he deemed violent and unstable like the exorcism of words that would finally flow from his mouth when he was forced to defend all his silent stares and childhood bruises; when he was forced to give him his sob story, and watch the pity he hated so very much polluted his brown eyes.

it took from indigo what he had worked, starved and muted himself for; control, and whispered to him like a sweet, sweet lullaby the pitiful fact that he had never had any in the first place.

"okay. i'm sorry about that." indigo breathed, carefully choosing his words as he exhaled deeply. "i lost my temper."

jae smiled, not helping the unconscious way his lips tugged upwards in an almost gullible manner, constantly justifying the somewhat timid undertones in indigo's passive voice. still, his compliance was somewhat surprising; jae expected for his ear to be sore and aching from the rebuttal indigo should've thrown up to those words, but instead he received nothing. not only was it somewhat refreshing, but it was new, just like many new things seemed to be about the blonde on the other line. just from one look at him, it was obvious to jae the once belligerent, headstrong indigo was in the slow, slow process of slipping away into someone much more mature; someone that jae couldn't help but to question and ponder, because his newfound compliance wasn't the only thing different about him.

"that's okay, naekko.. as long as you know what i said was the truth."

indigo fell silent, struggling at first to hold his voice that urged against his closed lips with claims of denial. he couldn't have possibly been telling the truth- had he really been looking for him- the whole time? after the way he treated him? it simply didn't make sense, and if anything it made indigo's sore chest only feel heavier with the guilt he was supposed to have expelled from their discussion that he knew would never quite be absent from his mental.

"..okay." indigo murmured. "h..how was your holiday?"
"it was alright. simple. and yours?"
"it was okay."
"what did you do?" jae asked expectantly, listening to the way the domincan's breath seemed to catch in discomfort for the obvious reason jae shamelessly alluded to, and craved to hear.
"um.." indigo stalled, his chest full of air as he held his unstable breath. "..i took angel to the parade and we ate."

the name seemed outlandish to bring up in conversation with jae, especially when he had no idea of the impact it should have on him. the blonde's wary dark orbs fell to aitana anxiously as he nibbled on his lower lip, an honest nerve painting over his bare features as he listened for any sort of reaction from the man clueless as to why he had been called in the first place. despite the success of angel and jae's fateful first encounter, indigo had less than an idea of what jae's reaction about having a seven year old son would look like.

then again, he had narrowed it to two pretty major choices; jae could either cuss him out, sue him, claim to the whole word in some tv station that indigo was a money-digging, staged liar with a plot leading to his downfall or he could weep with joy at the revelation of his only son and never go a day without seeing him again. they were two pretty broad choices, but indigo was sure of them and almost everything on the spectrum between them; he had studied and calculated almost every single option, including aitana's responses and what size headache he would be given. now, it was just about getting the burdensome words that seemed to stick to his tongue out.

"i used to love those parades when i was younger." jae reminisced, pushing the burdensome pile of thoughts that had already begin to grow upon indigo shoulder's off with the mere melody of a smile indigo could hear in his swift voice. aitana watch the way the blonde's chest seemed to flatten like a empty chip bag underneath somebody's boot, his obsidian orbs wavering with a bit of obvious relief that made the latina want to reach out- place a hand against his soft skin and draw him into her embrace, to comfort him but her body stayed painfully rigid, stilled with the emotion that she couldn't help but to show in her peering hazel eyes that under the dim light of her room, seemed to appear greener. "did he enjoy himself?"
"yes. he did."
"good. did he have a part in it, or?"

"you don't have to pretend to be interested in a 'notha man's kid, jae." indigo experimented suddenly, biting hard on his lower lip as aitana slapped his exposed thigh so hard he couldn't help but to let out a little grimace that if anything, only further confused to korean who's brows subconsciously creased as he listened to the muffled audio of defensive grunts that followed his rather proactive statement afterwards, except that's just what it was; a proactive statement that didn't even match the gentle fear jae swore he could hear in his voice, which would've been confusing if jae didn't hyper-analyze almost every single interaction they had.

but, why, exactly did he seem to be interested in what jae had to say about angel?

"say hello to your friend for me." jae said firstly, somewhat amused. "i'm interested in you. your child is apart of you, and i respect that. would you rather me not?"

the blonde grabbed aitana's swinging arm, holding ot still for a minute as he listened to the other line, misery and repose and want cascading over him all at the same time, making for a rather conflicted mix in his racing heart. aitana stopped her efforts to wager war against her best friend, allowing her arm to go limp in his grip as she watched the way the blonde seemed to visibly soften, his obsidian eyes wavering dangerously with the manifestation of his emotions. aitana shifted her arm away, patting indigo's back gently as if she hadn't tried to do him in just a moment ago, a genuine nurture present in the small circles she coaxed into the younger's back.

"no. it's just that lots of people ain't like that. you don't think me havin a child ain't a dealbreaker?"
"a dealbreaker for what exactly, indi?"
"whatever it is you tryna do wit me." the blonde murmured quietly, unaware of his somewhat stirring choice of words that if anything, only made the burning want in jae's chest a little deeper. in fact, it made jae sick with it, a result of indigo's constant teases that if anything were much more emotional than physical, constantly brushing up against his conflicted ego just like those beautiful hips that still hadn't left his mind.

"no. does that mean you'll let me do what i want?"

"ion know yet." indigo teased, though he couldn't even help the fact that his interest was peaked and he couldn't help the guilt that came with it; it shouldn't have been. he shouldn't have even been trying to make conversation; he had a goal, and it did not involve himself getting distracted. "..uh, did i call at a good time? i tried to go accordin to yo time zone and shit cause i know you live in korea an all.."

"mhm.. what is it you want to say to me?"

"huh?" indigo asked, somewhat off-guard by the sudden confrontation that screamed just what he hated to hear; to jae, he was transparent, no matter how hard he tried to conceal anything. "maybe i just wanna hear yo voice."
"there's a price for that. i don't do much for free now, indigo."

"oh yes, i forgot you un grande hombre de negocios now jae. what's the price?"
"i want to see you."
"huh?"
"i want to see you. send me a picture of what you wore today."

indigo glanced over at aitana who squiggled her brows in a somewhat comical manner as the younger quickly went on mute.

"what do i say?" indigo panicked to the latina who simply hummed, debating whether or not to give him the advice he truly needed, something that aitana had never hesitated on; not quite until now, and she couldn't help but to be somewhat silent as she put out the smoking butt inbetween her fingers, smashing it against the bottom of the bejeweled trey that sat in-between her and her best friend.

aitana had no question about what needed to be done about angel and indigo's situation, but she also knew that the sparkle in indigo's dependent eyes would never quite be as bright for anybody else.

she knew, and she hated it, and she hated that she hated it; shouldn't she have been jumping for joy at the mere thought of her best friend engaging with that man he never quite seemed to move on from? shouldn't she have been celebrating his win along with him?

maybe, if it didn't feel like such a loss.

"don't send him nothing." aitana said. "tell him if he wanna see you fly you out. it's that simple baby."

indigo merely gazed over at the latina who seemed to have quieted significantly, her shoulders drawn in and eyes focused on her phone despite the fact she was the one who urged him to call in the first place. the blonde remained silent in wake of her advice that didn't quite seem to come from a genuine place, but the reason why was one indigo knew better than to think about as he simply unmuted the call.

"if you wanna see my face, then you gotta come see me."
"oh?"

"mhm. i don't do much for free either, jae.." indigo hesitated, nibbling on his lower lip momentarily before forcing the words that he had been circling around for the last twenty minutes. "..that's why i called you. um, i .. need to talk to you. in person.. again."

he's so cute, jae thought, a smile dancing upon his lips like a blushing schoolgirl whom's plaid skirt had just been complemented. the korean couldn't help but to be somewhat flattered, especially with the unprompted timing of his request, but it was somewhat a strange one. shouldn't jae be the one to make the first move, considering indigo showed anything other than interest in another hypothetical love proposal- or at least did not allow himself to? would it not be the exact thing that indigo wanted to run away from, knowing the untamable character- and if it wasn't about them, then what was it about?

maybe he wanted to talk things over again?

but then again, there was nothing to talk over but the specific details of what happened seven years ago and that was something jae wasn't sure if he was durable enough to even hear. while he tried his hardest to wrap his mind around indigo's reasonings, he wasn't quite ready to hear exactly what led to him leaving him.

"okay." jae agreed, the smooth confidence present in his voice a mere deceit . "saturday, then?"
"ain't you in korea?"
"no, actually." the younger chuckled. "i uh, just flew up to nevada to spend some time with my uncle."
"oh. that sound sweet." indigo stalled, guilt immediately slapping him hard in the face as soon as he gave a quarter of a thought about the man's uncle who's mental thought he completely brushed away lest he pour out just how many apologies he owed to the man to his nephew. those, he would save for later when he had no other choice but to see the man he knew he would probably have to interact with sooner or later, especially when he found out that he was the mother of his grandnewphew. the blonde spaced out for a moment, trying to picture just what would happen after everything was revealed but quickly led himself out of his conscience; he didn't even want to begin to think about it. "but.. uh, yes saturday."

"alright. but i have a condition."
"which is?"

"we're not just meeting up and talking. we're going on a date."

"a date?" indigo repeated in slight disbelief, arching a brow. "you gettin real bold baby."
"oh would you look at that, i just got a booked schedule full of meetings for satur-"
"fine," indigo snapped, not helping the soft racing of his heart as he brushed his curls behind his burning ears, his words a bit quieter and just as soft, honest in it's small tones of nerve as the real purpose of the call seemed to slip right out of his weakened grip. "dumbass."
"amazing. send me your address, okay naekko?"
"for what?" indigo wondered, returning the curious glance his bestfriend gave him.

"you'll see."
