"Where the hell are we?" Summer whispered as all three of us stood on top of a hill, I wiped the snot falling from my nose and blinked away the tears that were in my eyes. I'm still in shock abot what Roman did, I can't even imagine what would have happened if I had stayed.. ? would I end up like Jace? I bit my lip to stop myself from crying, I know he wasn't the best brother in the world, but seeing his head hanging like that from Romans claws made me want to be sick.
Natalia was still looking pale as she too, looked over...whatever this place was. I took and deep breath in and composed myself a little "This is the..otherside?" I gulped and as I stared at the grey tinged grass, I thought about whether leaving our world was worth it. Summer shook her head "I didn't think this world would look so... bleak. Why is everything grey? and why does this place look exactly" Summer turned around and pointed at portal we had gone through "like where the hell we came from?" Summers voice went high pitched as she looked at us.
I wiped my nose again and shook my head "I have a really bad feeling about this place...something feels so off" my body was tensed as I looked around, I just felt very weird and uncomfortable right now I can't even explain how foreign it is being here. Natalia nodded "prinimayu (I agree) something is not right" Natalia looked around and pulled the jacket closer to her body and shivered. She pulled the sleeves of her jacket up to show the raised hairs "takoye oshchushchenie, chto saa nami chto-to nablyudaet" (it feels like something is watching us) she whispered and shuffled closer to us "my dolzny dvigatsya now" (we should move now)
I looked at Summer and I know she can feel it too, the shiver that went through my spine, and that uncomfortable feeling.I licked my now dry lips we were definitely being watched. Summer pulled open a map "This is what Leah left us, she said to follow the red lines it will keep us hidden" Summer whispered as we all huddled around her, her chipped black nail polished finger followed the red line "we are here sooo we need to go here" Summer whispered as she tapped a circled spot on the map.
We all nodded, as we all went to walk away Summer stopped us "we need to drink this, hide our scent" Summer gave us all a small glass bottle and opened the cork that let out a small pop sound "I know this will taste really bad...but we do what we gotta do and lets do it together" I pulled open the cork, Natalia followed and we all took a deep breath out "Cheers" Summer said as we all swallowed the.. sour liquid.
I couldn't help but start gagging as I put a hand over my mouth, this tastes absolutely vile I felt like being sick, my eyes started to tear up as I tried to keep this stuff down my throat "Oh my god Aurora stop you're making me sick" Summer moaned as also put her hand over mouth and started gagging "Can you stop gagging please" Summers voice was pained as she turned her back to us. I closed my eyes and wiped my eyes as I calmed myself the after taste of that monstrous drink was still present at the back of my throat.
I wiped my eyes and looked at Natalia who has her eyes closed she put her hands over her ears. Maybe I should have done that. I let out a deep breath and put my hands on my hips as I looked around....whatever this place. I frowned as I turned towards Summer who had her hand over her mouth and was looking at the map .
It's strange, there's not a single sound. I felt a bubble of panic form in my chest, why is everything silent ? I looked up at te sky and squinted, no birds. I looked at the trees, we're in the middle of a forest, there should be sounds of insects, or even wildlife but there is nothing. This isn't right, then again I looked back at Summer and Natalia nothing about this situation isn't right.
"Have you guys noticed .." I started to say but felt a bit weird saying it out loud, I walked closer to Natalia who was also standing next to Summer. Summer looked up and raised an eyebrow as she moved her hand away from her mouth "What?" Natalia looked at me with a confused look as I closed in on them. A shiver ran down my spine as the paranoia started to kick in, earlier I felt like we were being watched, by instinct animals and insects stay quiet when they sense something dangerous coming their way.
We should take this as out sign to fuck off from here. Fast .
I licked my dry lips and whispered "We need to move from here. Quickly" My eyes darting behind Summer and Natalia, my skin prickled with awareness as Summer gave me a funny look "What's wring with you...? " She glanced at Natalia as they both shared a concerned look, I shook my head. I know I'm looking a little unhinged right now, with wide eyes looking around everywhere like madman .
Alarm bells were ringing hard in my head as I grabbed both of their arms and started to tug them away "It's silent Summer, not a single fucking sound." I hissed as I looked at the map "We need to follow the route and get out of here" Natalia gulped as started to look around and moved her arm out of my hand and intertwined our fingers "How is there .." Summer trailed off as she started look around before her eyes widened "not a single sound" she whispered the part.
There wasn't even any wind, it almost felt like we were in a still frame picture. All we coud hear was our breathing.
"Right, this way" Summer moved to grabbed my hand and looked around for something before she pointed at a tree, that looked almost like it was dying "We need to go there, girls get ready to run" Summer whispered as she shoved the map into her backpack and tightened the straps with her free hand.
A low whistle froze us in our tracks, Natalia and Summers hand gripped mine a tight grip as I slowly looked around for the whistle, my body began to shake as dread started to fill my body. I gulped as Natalia eyes widened and with a shaky finger pointed towards the trees, both me and Summer locked eyes, her eyes full of fear as we both shakily turned our heads around to see what the hell is behind us.
"chudovishche" (Monster) Natalia whispered behind us, my breathing became uneven as I looked into what look a mass of darkness.
"Tiptoe ...through ...the ...window" I held back a gasp as the deep, eerie voice sang to us, this is something out of a horror film, I can't tell if this is real or not. The voice sounded demented, that was the way to describe this, my heart was beating fast as Summer hand shook in mine "What the fuck" she whispered horrified with what the hell is happening. My voice was stuck in my throat, as I watched in horror as a man I gulped as my shaky eyes slowly lifted to his face has slowly started to come out from the black mass.
He was dressed in all black, not an ounce of colour on him. Even if he was, I'm not sure if I would be able to see it. This world looks black and grey. Stood at a staggering height, my head followed his body as he stood proud and tall. This man, he looked human he had two arms and two legs, my lips quivered but the face. His eyes were pitch black, and I mean there were whites in his eyes the entire thing was black. A wicked smile painted across those lips, and his teeth. They were sharp and jagged, I'm not sure how but I found the energy too but I took a small step back.
The man let his tongue glide over his sharp teeth and closed his eyes a took a deep breath in, Natalia squeezed my hand tightly as she shakily whispered " nam nuzno bezhat" (we need to run) I couldn't take my eyes off this man, I had a feeling the second we look away is when all hell will break loose. The man let out a grunt as he opened his eyes and let a smile, not a normal smile but one that you send you running for the fucking hills wash over his face. The man did not blink. Before he closed his eyes and after he opened them, not once did he blink.
My eyes moved from his face to his hands, lord help us. His skin looked white, and I mean like a sheet of paper white, long sharp nails on each finger, his finger tips were black as he used his index finger to put over his lips "by the window, that is where I'll be" my back straightened at the tone of his voice, it was cold and dangerous. Nothing about this man is safe, we need to get away from him fast.
I slowly nodded and squeezed Summers hand to snap her out her out of this stupor that she seemed to be stuck in, Natalia squeezed my hand and second later Summer followed "my zapuskaem vie 3" (We run in 3) I muttered lowly as my eyes stayed on the freak in front of us who was now mock bowing, as he went to bow again I knew this would be the time to run, I quickly turned and ran with all my might and pulled Natalia and Summer who was now sprinting with me towards the dead tree.
A manic laugh came from behind us as we heard "ready or not here I come" my hear was beating fast as legs started to burn from fast I was running, adrenaline was pumping through my veins as I heard the thudding footsteps coming behind us, Summer let go of my hand as she looked behind us before she screamed "Fucking run" as she shoved her hands in her pockets and took out a locket.
"Come tiptoe through the tulips with me" The voice was getting closer and so was the thudding footsteps, I just knew this man was messing with us, he was taking his time getting to us purposely letting us run away so that he can enjoy the chase. I gripped Natalia's hand tightly as the tree grew closer and closer. Natalia ripped her hand away from mine and screamed "Duck" Natalia moved her arms over her head and skidded to the side, I didn't waste any time ducking and watching in horror as a large rock flew past my head and landed just a meter ahead of me with a huge thud.
It felt almost unreal as I ran past the rock, and we had reached the tree. Summers chest was heaving as she looked behind us, Natalia gripped the dying tree trunk as she looked at Summer "Where do we go?" Natalia voice was dripped with desperation as the thudding footsteps grew closer, I quickly turned my head towards the footsteps that suddenly came to a holt. "don't move" Summer muttered under her breath as the locket she has taken out of her pocket started to glow a ruby red colour. The three of us froze as we watched the man, look right at us in confusion, he rubbed his hands over his face and let out a angry roar. He dragged his hands from the stop his face forcing the bottom of his eyes lids to drop. Drool running down his mouth as fell to his knees "Where did they go?" his tone of voice laced with agony as he started to punching the floor repeatedly .
My palms were sweating as the man only stood a few feet away from us, all three of us stayed still and too scared to even move an inch as the punching stopped and he let his head fall back and eyes closed as he took his a deep breath. I actually stopped breathing at this point, I quickly moved my hand over my nose and held my breath, from the corner of my eye I saw Summer follow and Natalia move her face into her shoulder. Everyone was tense as the man finally opened his eyes and an ugly snarl took over his lips as it looked like he was looking right at us. I needed to breathe, I could feel my lungs begging me to let some oxygen into my system. The man snapped his head in another direction, and I slowly let go of my nose and slowly and quietly took in some of that well needed oxygen.
The man suddenly stood up, his face still snapped in another direction, his whole body tensed and almost got into a defensive position as he started to back away from us, no back away from whatever he was clearly scared of. My gaze flickered to Summer who had the locket clutched tightly in her hand, shake her head and looked at me in fear and we were both thinking the same thing. If this man, is scared of whatever is coming this way then something even worse is coming our way.
The floor felt like it was vibrating, the trees started to shake and I quickly leaned back against the Tree and Summer took advantage of the vibration and moved to stand next to me and put her arm around my waist, Natalia followed and all three of us were hugging each other. As a low humming sound reached our ears and the vibrations stopped, I couldn't help but notice even with the vibrations, not a single bird, animal or insect made a sound. The humming sound was deep, and my ears suddenly felt itchy and hot as I gripped onto Summers arm tightly. Natalia shook her head slightly and grimaced at the sound.
The humming stopped and itching came to a holt almost straight away but we did not relax, if anything it made us even more scared because that means whatever was humming has reached its destination. My shaky eyes stayed planted in the direction where that man was looking and that's when we heard it.
"You have no business here Vampyre" this voice was different, the voice was deep and low as it hissed the words slowly, this voice had power behind it and I could tell that whatever is walking towards the man was dangerous. The man flinched at voice, his face flashed with fear slightly as he took another step back before he snarled back "I found them f-" the man stopped talking abruptly his eyes bulged slightly as he struggled to breathe. He held his throat, and fell to his knees with a loud thud, his face started to turn red as looked back at the sky trying to breath.
I felt Natalia start to shake as she watched in horror "This place does not belong to you" The voice hissed, the man was till struggling to breathe as he started gagging on his saliva and let go of his throat as the veins started to protrude from his face. I felt Summer tense as she was now looking in another direction, I hesitantly moved my gaz away from the dying man and followed Summers gaze and I held back a gasp.
Leaning against a tree at least 2 meters away from us, was a man. Everything about his demeanour screamed danger, he wore a black suit with a red tie and sitting on his chest was a silver pin. A silver pin of a wolf. I closed my eyes briefly, no that's no wolf, that's a panther. My insides churned as I opened them and looked back at the man against the tree. He was tall, and I mean taller than Roman tall, his body was slim, his fingers were littered with black jewellery, one hand had a burning cigarette. His skin looked really textured , almost as if...he had scales but they were brown like the colour of his skin. His eyes were almost snake like, they were bright green with slits of black in them, he had hair that stopped to his shoulders, and had a three slits in his eyebrow. I watched as he lifted the cigarette to his lips and took and leaned his head against the tree and let out the smoke, before he lazily looked at the man and flicked his hand in the air.
"Disgusting " the man hissed, his lips lifted into a snarl as the mans neck snapped and his body slammed against the floor. oh my god. I shakily looked back at the slumped figure on the floor and stared at him with wide eyes. His neck was twisted in a unholy way, his black eyes looked at us blankly and his mouth started to foam. The man standing near us, grunted in disgust as he moved his body off the tree and walked to the corpse, with his polished shoe, the man poked the corpse and threw the cigarette onto the body and just like that it lit up in flames.
The man sighed and tilted his head "Now what was you chasing ?" I held my breath as the man slowly turned around , his beady eyes scanned the areas around us before they stopped at the tree we were standing at. A smile painted his face, I didn't think it was possible to be more scared than I already was but I was wrong. The man slowly walked towards us, his unblinking eyes focused on the tree, his gaze now looking like it was locked with mine.
I froze as the man was now standing at arms length in front of us, so close that I could smell his scent. He smelt like cigarettes and a hint of musk, he tilted his head as it felt like he was burning holes into my eyes, the man put his index finger in the air and licked his finger, before he raised his eyebrows "Magic?" Summers body began to shake as she held the locket tighter.
"Ray, you can call me Ray" Ray hummed as he finally moved his gaze away from me, but from how tight she was holding my waist it seems like he was now looking down at Natalia. Ray tutted and waggled his finger at us "Naughty, you ladies are not from here" Ray sung, I could hear that humming sound as he said the last part. We said nothing as the man carried on "Hiding your scent, even worse.?" the man began to pace as he started to look more agitated.
It seemed our silence was making him angry "Nothing to be scared of, just come with me and you'll be safe" Ray almost purred as he stopped pacing and waited for a response, when none of us spoke Rays lip lifted into a smile, as he took a couple of steps back and moved to sit on the floor.
"I want to play a game...won't you play with me"
