5 year old Delilah pov
A hot summer day it was, the annual Delacourt-Rosewood fourth of July lunch was today and I was in the living room.
"Delilah stop practicing your jumps in the living room you may knock something over," my mom said, my life was ice skating in and off ice
"Aurelia, leave the child alone," aunty Chiara said, she isn't my real aunt but I grew up with her and her family
My dad, her husband, Alessandro, was out on the deck, meanwhile, mom, Chiara, me, and her son Logan were inside making lunch on a hot summer day
Logan was by my side for as long as I could remember
"Lo what did you think about my jumps," I asked him smiling
"They were amazing, can you also teach me?" I then looked at my mom, she had a disapproving stare but I then pout and she changed her mind
"Fine, but first be sweeties and make the table," mom yelled as Lo and I giggled as we made our way to get the plates and eating utensils
I took the plaid red and white tablecloth and placed it on top of the table. Logan then set the plates and I helped with the utensils. Lo ran inside to get the napkins while I stayed to fix the table a little more. I've always been a perfectionist
When Lo came out with the napkins the dads noticed our presence.
"Hello kiddos what are you doing," Alessandro asked, I was kind of scared of him
"We are making the table so that then Lilah can teach me how to jump," he said shyly as he passed me the napkins
"I thought you were a hockey boy," his dad asked
"I am I just want to learn," he said shyly,
"Let the poor kid have fun," my dad said and Logan smiled and mouthed 'thank you' we then walked inside
"Tables all done," I said and walked toward aunty Chiara
"Good job Rose," she said and then kissed my forehead. Aunty Chiara was the only one who could call me Rose and dad or Alessandro would call me their ice princess because of my icy blue eyes
"ok Lo now you start like this with your leg rotated, then jump and let the wind make you twirl," I said demonstrating, I love being in the air it's just something I've enjoyed since I started walking
"like this?" he asked as he jumped but landed wrongly and tumbled down and dropped a vase
"Are you okay Lo?" I asked as our moms quickly made their way to the living room
"I told you Chiara this is why I didn't want them jumping around," mom said mad and my mind went into solution mode
"I'm okay aunty Aurelia," he said as mom checked him for any injuries
"Chiara, check your son I need to talk to Delilah," mom said as we both sat on the couch
"I'm sorry it was my fault I'll buy you a new vase," I said looking down and swinging my feet
"With what money love?" she asked and I started to think
"My birthday is coming soon maybe with that money," I said and she then hugged me and told me "It's fine Li and kissed my cheek,"
"Can I help you finish making lunch?" I then asked her
"Yeah now let's go I don't like seeing you sad," mom said as we both made our way to the kitchen where Aunty Chiara and Lo were laughing
After that, we spent quality time with just the four of us but after a while Lo and I got bored so we decided to play a board game. Lo chose clue. He had always been the smartest of both of us
We spent our time playing different board games until lunch was ready
We all sat down in the humid weather outside as mom served us lunch.
"Can we get into the pool later?" Logan asked excitedly
"First eat then we'll talk about it," Chiara said and Logan and I giggled as we both ate our food
We love doing weekly lunch, Logan and I spend some time together outside school and the adults talk over some beers or wine
Logan always had a big group of friends but he always includes me and makes time for me. I have friends but not as many as him, he is a very friendly person and everyone loves him.
We finished lunch and then walked inside to watch tv just as we always do. Dad then went to the bathroom and returned with a record from his extensive collection. He then puts it on the record player and asks mom for her hand and they dance while they laughed. Alessandro and aunty Chiarathen started dancing too as Lo and I watched them laugh and have a good time
"wanna dance," Lo asked loud enough I could hear him through the music
"yeah sure," I said, taking his hand as we danced if you could call that a dance. He twirled me and we laughed
"Can you promise me something," he yelled through the music
"Yeah sure," I said while I smiled
"Do you promise me we'll always be best friends?" he asked with a pout
"Of course why would you ask that," I said as we stopped dancing
"Do you pinky promise it?" he asked holding his pinky up
"I Delilah Rosewood promise to be best friends with Logan Delacourt forever,". I said as I held my pinky finger and interlocked it with his
We then ran with our parents and started dancing with them. Lunch days were the best in the summer. We didn't really celebrate the 4 of July but we love a good excuse to get together.
"Uncle Chris, will we light up the fireworks?" Logan asked excitedly to my dad
"Yes but later, deal little boy," he said as he smiled and ran a hand through his hair and messed it up
"I'm not that little anymore I'm huge," he said and I looked at him smiling and walked where my mom and Chiara were dancing
"Hello Rose," she said as I took both of their hands and we were all laughing, twirling, and having fun
Once the song finished and the next one started I started dancing with my dad, I was his little ice princess forever. Aunty Chiara was dancing with Alessandro and Logan was dancing with my mom.
Music blurred through the speakers all afternoon. Logan and I decided to go to the pool a little after dancing so I put on my swimsuit and made my way downstairs
"Look mom, the new swimsuit Aunty Chiara bought me," I said twirling, it was a pink one-piece with white dots and it had ruffles.
"Chiara-," mom said looking at her with an expression I couldn't figure out
"I wanted to spoil my little Rose," she said going next to me and hugging me
"We'll talk later," she said and then Aunty twirled me
"Mom would you braid my hair," I asked her and we sat on the couch
"Rose, I also want one; Rose would you mind doing mine?" Aunty asked as she sat in front of me so I started braiding her hair
After we finished braiding each other's hair we walked outside and saw Lo sitting on the ladder that led to the pool
I then walked beside him and took his hand
"On the count of three, we cannonball ok?" I asked him and he nodded
"One, two, and three," he said and we both cannonballed into the pool splashing everywhere
...
"The fireworks start soon so get out so that you guys can change," mom said as she helped us out
"Okay," I said running inside the house and into my room
"Don't run," she said but I didn't hear her
I slipped into my sundress and threw on my slippers and ran downstairs
"Run the fireworks are about to start," Alessandro said and I ran near where the boys were lighting up the fireworks
It was all beautiful, all of us smiling and looking up at the sky eating desserts my mom made and Lo was giving me a flower he found.
"Love you, Delilah," my mom said kissing my cheek
I wish everything stayed like this. All of us together
13 year old Delilah
A cold winter day, everything was a chaos. Screaming, crying and emotion full storm
Everything is about to change, I was changing, my family was changing, Logan and I were changing and I couldn't go into solution mode
The house looked like it haven't been cleaned for weeks but I just cared for Logan.
My mom and Alessandro had disappeared and now it's just the five of us. Dad. Chiara, Blair who is Logan's little sister, Lo and I.
"I guess this is goodbye," he said hugging me
"It doesn't have to be," I said looking at his watery eyes
"We both know that's not true," he said and now my eyes were the one getting watery
"Here, I made you this dark blue bracelet, so you get reminded of me, and if we ever reunite I want you wearing this," I said giving him the bracelet I made and put it on
"I love you Delilah," he said hugging me crying
"I love you too Logan, I hope we find each other again," I said not crying but the second he left that door I fell to my knees broke down and this time no one could comfort me
