Max's POV-

Left and right they came. Left and right there was death.

I was currently squaring off with one of Clara's mages. It came to the point where we were using our staves as blunt weapons, and we kept on trying to strike each other with them instead of using magic. I finally gained the upper hand and knocked the staff from her hands. With a wave of my hand, I sent her flying and she landed in the trees, knocking her out. I gazed around the chaos around me. Our wolves were fighting both Mages and Demons, and our Mages were fighting mainly the demons. Magic crackled in the air, as it was so full of magical energy. I absorbed that magical energy and blasted a large ray of lightning at a Rage Demon what was about to slash at Lucas's wolf back, and he shot me a thankful look as the Demon crumpled into green Fade energy, then dispersed like dust. We both nodded and leapt back into action.

Both armies were fighting to the death, and I saw a few of our dead soldiers and some of Fiona's Mages scattered about the ground. But we remained strong and fought with all of our strength. Clara and my father were relentless, as they fired spell after spell at our wolves. There numbers were slowly diminishing, as our warriors were resistant to many of the magic cast at them thanks to Selene's blessing. This was also the case as within my first attack, I had wiped out around ten of Clara's Mages and about seven of her Demons. Yeah, when my father told me he had my mother killed, I felt pure hate. My hatred for both of them grew with each passing second, along with each Mage and Demon from their army that was killed.

"Cut them down! Useless! All of you!" Clara shouted from among the fighting. This made me snort in disbelief. She would call her army useless, while she stood off to the side and let others do her dirty work? The gall she had. Fiona, on the other hand, was fighting tooth and nail with her Mages, giving them orders and helping them, even stepping in to protect them when needed. She was what a true leader should be.

"How are you holding up Max?" Fiona asked me as we fought back-to-back, demons coming right at us.

"Tired as hell, but I will make it", I tried to joke, but we both only chuckled before turning to the demons. We fired spell after spell at them. I would shoot large chunks of ice at the demons, while Fiona would create a large wall of fire to block the demons advancing. We finally got out of the circle and went our separate ways in the battle. I snuck up on one of Clara's mages, who was using his staff like an amplified taser and was electrocuting one of our wolves. I made my staff glow gold and touched his back with the tip, a string of brighter gold magic flowing from him and into my staff. The string of brighter gold traveled up the wood and the staff absorbed it. The mage now crumpled to the ground, dropping his staff that was now useless to him. I kicked him to the side. He was now Tranquil. This sent Clara into a rage, and she joined into the battle, knocking our wolves down with her staff. I suppose she isn't as petty as I thought. I looked away from her and focused on my wolf, healing her up with a bit of magic. The potions I made I suppose were forgotten, but it wasn't a big deal. The heat of battle will do that to you.

But that wasn't what set me off again. My father had now entered the battle. He swept his staff and sent a large ball of lightning at the most important person in my life: Lucas. I was there immediately to deflect it with a magical shield, and he gave me a bewildered look. Upon noticing my father, he growled lowly. I sent him a look, telling Lucas I had Jefferson. He nodded his wolf head, understanding me. I looked back at Jefferson, who held his staff lazily as it glowed with electric energy, and he was smiling smugly. By the gods how I wanted to wipe that smirk off of his face. I did just that, as I sent a powerful ray of ice at him, which he blocked with ease. I then used my Fade Step ability, going in a fast blur to use my Spirit Blade. He saw this coming, as I was just about to use my Spirit Blade, Jefferson swept his staff and blasted me back with bright purple energy. I went flying back and landed on my stomach a few meters from him. I slowly raised myself from the ground and spat. He laughed like a maniac and took a few steps towards me. By now, the fighting was at a halt as everyone who was still alive looked at me and Jefferson with fear and a bit of excitement. Poor bastards.

"Did you really think you could best me? I taught you magic! I gave you those tomes about magic! I know all of your tricks. And when me and Clara are done with you, you won't even remember your precious mutt's name", Jefferson sneered. Rage and absolute hatred bubbled inside of me as I heard him laugh. There was no way he would touch my beloved mate, even if I was dead. I shot up and pushed him back with a burst of my telekinesis. He flew backward a little but regained his posture quickly. He grinned malevolently at me. "Struck a nerve, did I? Come on then son. Show me that rage." He sneered some more. I set my jaw, clutching my staff tightly in my right hand.

I began walking towards him.

Jefferson was still overconfident, as he shot a blast of fire at me from his staff. I blocked it with a shield spell, and I kept advancing towards him. He sent another one at me, and I blocked that one too, still advancing on him. He then raised his left hand and his staff and was beginning to create a larger and more powerful fireball. Big mistake on his part. As he was gathering the magic, I made Fade-touched rocks form on the end of my staff, and I blasted them at him. The rocks hit him right in the stomach, sending him to the ground, his staff now out of his reach, the fireball disappearing. He clutched his stomach, coughing and gasping in pain. I placed a weakening spell on him to keep him subdued, but it would only last a few minutes before he would be strong enough to fight again. But I only needed one or two of that time. I sat on the ground beside of him, lightly tracing my fingers on his chest, right where his heart was.

"Funny, you take my mother from me and get away with it", I said, my voice almost flat of emotion. "And now you think you can take away my mate? You are scum of the earth, and you don't deserve to ever walk free. Your reign of blood ends now, and your control over me ends now." I traced my hands over his heart again. "My heart has been broken by your doing many times. I wonder how it would feel if that happened to you." Jefferson knew what I was about to do, and he tried to get away from me. It was pathetic.

I plunged my hand into his chest.

My father screamed and shouted in pain as I gripped his heart, then ripped it out of him. There was no blood, no gore, and no gaping hole in Jefferson's chest as I held his glowing, and still beating heart in my palm. He was now at my absolute mercy.

"I wanted to come out of this with no one dying. But learning this information sent that out of the window. See you in hell, Jefferson Lavellen", I said. And with that, I began to squeeze on Jefferson's heart. He screamed and crumpled in pain as I squeezed and squeezed. The heart began to strain like tough glass in my hands, and after a few more seconds, it shattered in my hand, becoming nothing but dust that flew out of my hand and off into the distance. Jefferson took one last shaky breath, before his body relaxed and settled on the ground. Jefferson Lavellen, First Enchanter of the Lavellen Mage Clan, my own father, was now dead, and by my own hand. And how relieved I felt upon that fact. Clara though, wasn't as happy.

She screamed, and launched herself at me, staff held high above her head. I was about to brace myself for her attack, but a large black shape caught her before she could even touch me. It was Lucas. He had her pinned to the ground, and he grappled with her before he got a hold of her throat with his teeth. Yeah, I'll spare you the details. Once he was done with her, she now laying dead on the ground, Lucas licked his mouth and maw of her blood. A look of satisfaction was in his eyes.

The mages from Clara and Jefferson's army stopped when they saw the corpses of their leaders. This gave us the advantage we needed. We wiped them out with ease, the demons getting only a few claw marks in before they were destroyed as well. Clara and Jefferson were no more, and their armies were destroyed. Blood soaked the ground, and the corpses around use were a little unnerving. We decided to bring our fallen with us to give them proper burials and ceremonies. Clara, my father, and their armies were turned into dust, and it flew with the wind. The blood would absorb into the ground in a couple of hours. I would need to return to my old clan and take the position of First Enchanter soon. It was my duty to my fellow Mages. Once they learned of my father's intentions and what he had already done, they would be happy to have me lead them. I would need to discuss with Lucas about merging the Clan with the Pack, but I knew it wouldn't be an issue.

Lucas shifted back, and he kissed me deeply as our army cheered with victory, and I kissed him back just as deeply. After a moment of this bliss, we pulled away for breath. Lucas gave me a look of pride and he gently brushed a few of my hairs out of my face, both of us smiling lovingly at each other.

"Let's go home now, shall we?" he asked me.

I nodded. It would be good to go home.
