Sophie POV
"And I'm telling you again we can't just set them on fire."I tell the man in front of me for the third time.
He scratches his nose and looks at the spirit vines again.
"Why?" he asks making me want to hit my head against the brick wall.
"Okay, now again in the simplest form ever.Vines are magic, magic doesn't like fire, fire makes magic mad, mad magic destroys things and we have more work.Do you want more work?"I ask rubbing my forehead.
He quickly shakes his head and turns to his construction workers,"Let's leave boys there's nothing we can do."he shouts and they all pack up their explosives and flame throwers.
He quickly wobbles away probably too his lunch break.
Once they're gone I let out a muffled scream into my hands.
Harmonic convergence was about two weeks ago and I haven't had a single day off since.
All my injuries were luckily healed at the South Pole so that didn't bother me but I still didn't feel like I did before everything happened.
My spirity powers had not shown up again since I entered the physical world which made me wonder if they would even exist outside of the spirit realm and if they do, would they only come to me in life or death situations.
I walk closer to the building and pat the vines.
They aren't going anywhere anytime soon but neither are the spirits.
Speaking of spirits, it was weird having them in the city at first but you get used to it.
Korra had a meeting today with the press again about these said spirits and I know that won't end very well as we have absolutely no answers to any of their questions.
I can't even get samples of the vines without them trying to send me back to the spirit realm but as a spirit.
I grabbed the handle of my backpack and started walking back to my temporary office in central city.
I really didn't feel like it as I have this sick feeling, making me feel all tired and done but I have work to do.
I work for a bit before I get so frustrated that I throw my book closed and decide to leave it for today.
My brain can't even do the simplest equations and for the first in my life I feel that type of stupid.
I take the next fair to air temple island, where we were living temporarily, as our apartment was destroyed by a spirit tree.
I first set all my stuff down in my room before joining everyone for lunch.
I walk in to see that Tenzin and his entire family and Bolin already started eating lunch.
I greet everyone before sitting down and eating my food quietly.
A few minutes after I arrive Korra and Asami walk in.
"Sophie, any luck with the vines today?"Korra asks in a tone that says she already knows the answer but has a bit of hope left.
"I had to stop a guy from exploding a building, his reasoning being that fire can solve anything.
These people aren't like average stupid, Korra, they're full on Bolin type of stupid.
To make it worse there were still people in the building.
Luckily I had to authorize it before they could blow anything up."I say and she shakes her head and sits down next to me.
Bolin frown at me and shoves my head making me elbow him in the ribs.
We listen to Bumi rambling and Korra asks what's up with him.
"Bumi says he airbended earlier, but he can't now.Oh, and I guess he's not very good at knitting either.I gotta say, I love being part of this family.You got the grumpy dad, the wacky uncle, the put-upon mom, crazy kids, this is great."Bolin explains and I nod in agreement.
It never gets boring here.
"Where's Mako?"Asami asks making me roll my eyes.
"Oh, you mean the brooding teenager?"I joke.
"He's staying at the police station."Bolin explains.
"Still?"Korra asks and I nod.
"I told him Tenzin invited us to stay here since our apartment is a vine habitat now, but he said he had to focus on work."I explain and pull a typical Mako expression while Bolin pulls a hand through his hair to mimic Mako's hair style.
"Did you see that? I think the napkin moved."Bumi says and looks around the table for confirmation.
"You blew on it."Kya says annoyed.
"Wait!Maybe I can only do it when my life is in danger.Bolin, bend a giant boulder at me."Bumi says getting stretching out his hands.
"Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea."Bolin says and I nod in agreement.
"If you're going to be bending giant boulders, you can do it outside."Pema tells Bumi.
"No one is bending giant boulders!"Tenzin shouts.
Suddenly Meelo hits the table making a plate fly up.
He throws it at Bumi without giving him a heads up.
I fully expect to watch the plate hit Bumi in the face but to my surprise he catches it....with air bending.
I drop the dumpling I was holding and stare at the sight just like everyone else at the table.
We all seem to recover from the shock and Bumi let's go of the plate making it drop on the floor.
"How is that even possible?"asks Tenzin.
"Have you ever heard or read of anything like this?"Tenzin asks turning to me.
"Never."I shake my head.
We all talk about it for a while longer but I excuse myself as I started feeling really ill again.
I walk to my room and read for a bit till I fall asleep.
Korra and Asami came in to check up on me a while later but I told them to leave me alone, to not get them sick too.
The thing is, it didn't feel like a normal cold but something more.
As if my body was fighting something stronger.
I woke up late the next day and decided to take it slow.
I did take a ferry to republic city through and went to the library as too help do some research on the whole new airbender thing.
I found a few books and sat in my old corner.
I opened the first book which was so old that dust flew into the air from the force.
I felt a sneeze build up in me and probably let out the biggest sneeze in my whole life.
I had my eyes closed from the impact and so couldn't see what happened but I felt it.
The force pushed my chair back into the bookshelf behind me and I started smelling smoke.
I slowly opened my eyes, still trying to recover.
What I saw made me gasp.
The table infront of me was smoking and the pages of the book were still on fire.
I look at my hands and see that the sleeves of my jacket were a bit burnt too.
What in the world.
I quickly jumped up, stopping the book from burning to a crisp.
I push the chair back to its original spot, checked out the book so I could try to recover it at home and ran out of their.
My body felt alive again and it felt like that what ever was fighting me had passed.
I went to my office in the centre and
locked myself up in there.
How can this be?
I have never shown any signs of bending and even if I was blessed by the spirits to have any type of bending now it should be air, not fire.
Those bending books I read when I was younger came in really handy now and I tried doing some light practicing.
I did some fluid motion and punched the air making fire appear.
I stood there in aware and felt my heart beat faster at the sight.
I did a few more motions and once I was satisfied with myself I packed up my stuff and ran for the next ferry.
When I got to the temple through, no one was there.
I sat on the steps outside till I heard voices.
I jumped up and ran towards Oogi who was carrying Korra, Bolin and Tenzin.
"Korra!Bolin!"I shout.
"Don't you look alive again."Korra jokes.
"You won't believe what happened."I say with excitement.
