CHAPTER FOUR:

RECRUITING MUTANTS

IT WAS BRIGHT OUTSIDE as the sun was shining down on the many civilians in one out of the many countries on the planet. Every couple minutes or so outside, the wind could be felt blowing around that had the grass planted on the ground and the leaves on the trees moving in the direction the air was being blown towards.

In the bright blue sky, the clouds were white and fluffy-looking like they always looked while they were moving in one direction every minute or so, the time continuing to go by throughout the new day for the many living things in the country on the planet called Earth.

In one of the many offices in the facility, Y/n found herself leaning against the desk as she sat beside her brother with the man in the black suit sat across from them. The three adults could be seen looking through the glass window and out at the radar installation that sat on the large green field in the back of the facility.

About a day had gone by since the mutants had came to the facility and they had met Hank McCoy and found out about his prehensile feet. The Xavier woman had her elbows resting on the surface of the desk, eyes squinting a bit since the sun was shining through the window.

"Hank turned that radar installation into a transmitter. It's designed to amplify brainwaves so it could enhance your telepathic powers, help us find other mutants for our division." The man explains.

"What if they don't wanna be found by you?" A voice questions.

All three of them look over at the sound of a familiar voice, seeing Erik now standing at the doorway with his hands in his pants pockets. Y/n tilts her head as they make eye contact, remembering how Charles told her the night before that he had spoken to Erik before the man could fully leave, not knowing if he had convinced the older mutant to stay so they could find Sebastian Shaw together.

"You decided to stay." Y/n points out with a little smile.

Erik nods at her, feeling his lips twitch up before looking to the man. "If a new species is being discovered, it should be by it's own kind. Charles, Y/n and I find the mutants. No suits."

"First of all, that's my machine out there. Second of all, and much more importantly, this is Charles and Y/n's decision. They're fine with the CIA being involved. Isn't that right?" The man asks as he looks to the siblings, seeing them exchanging a glance.

Charles shakes his head. "No. I'm sorry, but we're with Erik."

"We'll find them alone." Y/n adds.

The man raises a brow. "What if I say no?"

"Then good luck using your installation without me." Charles replies.

The man doesn't say anything else as the three mutants look at him, wondering if he'd say something, yet he doesn't. There was some time that passed as he had led them towards the radar ball, Raven having joined them. Y/n trailed behind her brother as they walked up some stairs with Raven right behind her and Erik being at the back of them all as they walked further into the ball where Hank could already be seen inside, greeting them all with a small wave. In the middle of the room, was a headpiece that was hooked up by many wires, showing that Charles' head would go in there.

"I call it Cerebro." Hank announces, causing Charles to chuckle. "As in the Spanish for 'brain'. Okay, so, the electrodes connect Charles to the transmitter on the roof. When he picks up a mutant, his brain sends a signal through a relay and then co-ordinates of their location are printed out here."

"You designed this?" Raven questions, receiving a nod.

Hank found himself watching as she was looking at all the technology and his designs in awe, gulping nervously. While that was happening, Charles had stepped onto the platform as he brought his hands up to grab ahold of the headpiece before bringing it down on his head, showing to everyone that he was already ready as he places his hands behind his back, clasping them together.

Erik smirks teasingly. "What an adorable lab rat you make, Charles."

"Don't spoil this for me, Erik." Charles demands.

Erik points at himself. "I've been a lab rat. I know one when I see one."

Hank fixes some of the wires on the headpiece, leaning close to the older man. "Are you sure we can't shave your head?"

"Don't touch my hair." Charles orders.

Hank finds himself nodding while he moved back to the desk, his fingers pressing on some buttons and turning some switches just when the headpiece was lighting up. A cry of surprise left Charles, his hands reaching out to grab the railings as Y/n stared at her brother in concern. His surprised expression soon changed as a smile etched on his lips, quiet laughter escaping him while Hank's voice announced to the others that it was working.

* * *

This was the first mutant.

The music in the club was loud as the dancers showed lots of skin, their heels clicking along the floor as men could be seen sitting at their own tables, glasses of alcohol laying in their hands while they watched the women with lustful eyes and creepy-like smirks. The dancers all head seductive expressions on their faces as they danced for the men sexily, some of them wrapping their legs and arms around the poles that had been planted from the ceiling and into the floor, making it sturdy enough so they wouldn't be falling over while they were dancing.

Guards could be seen standing around, keeping their eyes on the men in case of anything. Y/n felt out of place. The only females in the club were the dancers, the rest being males as they spent their money for the women. Erik seemed to notice her uneasy expression, looking her over until he rested his hand on her lower back. Jumping a bit, Y/n didn't look at the man as the pad of his thumb caressed her clothed covered back.

His and Charles' eyes watch as the mutant walks over. Angel Salvadore made sure she had a seductive look like all the other dancers, swaying her body while she walked on the bar, crouching down with a sway of her hips when she saw Erik holding out some money, taking it from his fingers.

"For that, daddy-o, you get a private dance." Angel tells him.

At this, Erik and Charles find themselves looking at each other with little smiles etched on their lips, something that had Y/n rolling her eyes at them. Feeling Erik's hand still on her lower back, they were walking towards one of the private rooms where the three adults were seating themselves on the bed with Y/n in between them.

Standing across from them, Angel watched with one hand resting on her hip as they filled their glasses of alcohol, the two men clinking together while Y/n had downed the entire thing, knowing the younger woman was wondering why a woman was here but wasn't questioning it.

Angel raises a brow. "You cats know it's triple for three, right?"

Charles hums, shaking his head. "No, that won't be necessary. Although, I'm sure it'd be magical."

"We were thinking more, we'll show you ours if you show us yours." Erik adds.

"You couldn't have phrased it better." Y/n whispers to him, sarcasm laced in her tone.

"Baby, that is not the way it works around here." Angel states.

Smiling, Erik snaps his fingers, the metal bucket where the bottle of wine had been sitting with ice in it floating up beside him. This had her eyes squinting in realization as she watches Erik fill the Xavier siblings glasses before doing the same with his own until the bucket was being placed back down on the table.

Angel smiles. "My turn."

The three mutants watch as she reaches behind her, unclasping her fancy-looking brassiere, letting the claps dangle by her sides as it still covered her chest. Her tattoo that was engraved on her back and over her shoulders was changing into actual wings. Her feet leave the floor as they flap up and down, the young woman now hovering above the floor. Her dark eyes watch as the three glance at one another.

"How would you like a job where you get to keep your clothes on?" Y/n offers.

* * *

The second mutant.

The sun was slowly beginning to set in the large city, the buildings standing tall and proud as people could be seen leaving and entering the structures. Citizens found themselves walking through the streets, some with friends as their chattering voices could be heard all around.

The honks of the horns coming from the many vehicles all around added to the many other sounds of the living things within the city, traffic still busy as usual as some people were trying to get home to their families or their pets after a long day at work, wanting to sleep before they'd have to go back the next day.

Armando Munoz, also liking to be called Darwin by friends, had his hands resting on the steering wheel of his taxi vehicle while he waited for his new customers to enter the back seats, tapping his fingers on the wheel.

His dark eyes were looking around at the many vehicles driving by when the back door of his car opened up and Charles was sliding into the back seat, followed by Y/n and Erik being right behind her. Bringing a hand up, Darwin fixes the mirror to get a good look at the three without having to continuously glance over his shoulder to look at them.

"Where to?" Darwin asks, giving them a polite smile.

"Richmond, Virginia, please." Erik replies.

Darwin scoffs in disbelief. "Right, so, you want the airport? The station? What?"

"No, we were rather hoping you would take us all the way." Charles admits.

"That's a six hour drive." Darwin reminds.

Y/n shrugs. "That will give us plenty of time to talk."

Bringing his hand up, Erik uses his abilities to move a metal piece down without even touching it. Having watched this whole thing, Darwin's eyes widened as he turned himself to fully look over his shoulder at the three of them, watching as they all gave him little smiles.

* * *

The third mutant.

The prison was full of police officers, all the men holding guns tight in their grips as they walked back and forth down the many hallways where the cells could be seen with prisoners inside. The lights all around the dirty building could be seen on, giving all the many officers and prisoners light so they could see clear enough.

The sun was bright and shining through the small glass windows that could be seen on the walls, not giving the people inside that much light to see, even if they didn't really need it since it was the middle of the day for all of them. The three mutants followed the prison warden towards the cell that held the mutant they were looking for inside, the door looking big and thick unlike all the other prison cells that only had bars to keep the prisoners from escaping.

A guard followed right behind the three with a large shotgun in his hands, clearly showing that he had it in case they were planning on doing anything and he had to pull the trigger. The prison warden had a look of disbelief on his face after they had told him who they wanted to speak to, acting as if they were the government.

"What the hell does the government want with a guy like Alex Summers?" The police warden wonders out loud, going to unlock the door. "I hope you're not planning on putting him with others. First guy I've ever met who actually prefers solitary confinement."

And with that, he slides the prison door open to reveal the mutant inside. At the sound of the door opening, Alex Summers looks up from where he had been looking down at his clasped hands, brows furrowing in confusion when he sees the three other mutants standing there. Sitting up and taking his elbows off of his knees, he couldn't help but wonder who these people were and what they wanted.

* * *

The fourth mutant.

The aquarium was full of people, parents following after their children as they were running in the different sections where all the different underwater animals could be seen, swimming around in the water as they ignored the watchful eyes on them. Classical music could be heard playing from the speakers all around the building, adding to the many laughter coming from the children and their rushed footsteps hitting against the floor all around.

The deep voices of the adults in the building echoed throughout the halls as they were speaking to one another, letting their children wander around and have fun. In one quiet area, with his hands stuffed in his pockets, Sean Cassidy found the confidence that he always held whenever he was planning on talking to a cute girl as he slid right next to a cute blonde girl his age, making sure that his arm was touching hers as he stood very close to her that had her knowing he was there.

Scrunching her brows in confusion, the girl moves her eyes in his direction without moving her head before looking back at the tank the two teenagers were currently standing in front of, watching as the fish swam around, completely ignoring the current watchful eyes on them.

"Crazy, huh?" Sean speaks up, receiving a confused glance. "You like fish. I like fish, too. Maybe we should get a bite sometime and talk about it?"

The girl rolls her eyes, forcing a smile on her face when she looked at him. "I'd rather go out with the fish."

And with that, she turns around and begins to walk off. Making sure she wasn't looking, Sean looks to the tank as he puckers his lips, making sure it looked like a circle as he uses his abilities on the tank. His eyes watch as the vibrations he had sent to the tank has it shaking a bit, the water moving around from the inside while the fish quickly swam around and heading into some hiding spots and out of the gazes on them.

"These fish?" Sean calls to her.

Hearing his call, the girl stops and looks over her shoulder, seeing he was already looking at her. Her eyes widen and brows furrow when she didn't see any fish swimming in the tank, quickly walking off, not wanting to be anywhere near this weird boy any longer. Sean doesn't say another word, turning back to stare at the tank. He doesn't even notice the three mutants walking up until they were standing on either sides of him.

* * *

And finally, the fifth mutant.

The sun was bright as it shined down on the many people walking throughout the streets. The sidewalks were full of people, their shoulders bumping into one another's as they were walking in the different directions. The panting of the dogs added to the many other sounds in the large city that was still continuously growing and growing as people immigrated to live in that country after leaving their own.

Civilians could be seen entering and exiting stores on the streets, some coming in with empty hands and leaving with bags, showing that they had actually bought something from the shops. People could be seen walking around and sitting in a bar when the door opened, the bell at the top ringing to signal to everyone inside that new customers were entering, probably looking for some food or a drink to have. However, it was actually the three mutants.

Y/n trailed behind Erik as Charles was the last to step inside the room when Erik's eyes landed on the mutant they were looking for, motioning to the man to the other two. Meanwhile, the said mutant grabbed ahold of his cigar, not noticing the three walking up from behind him until they were on either side of him, making him raise a brow.

"Excuse me, I'm Erik Lehnsherr." Erik tells him.

Charles nods at him. "Charles Xavier."

"And Y/n Xavier." Y/n adds.

"Go fuck yourself." The man snaps.

Pursing her lips, Y/n finds herself grabbing Erik and Charles' arms as she leads them to the door so they could leave, all three of them knowing they wouldn't be able to convince him, even if they did show him their abilities. Erik lets Y/n pull him as the man glances over his shoulder, watching them leave with a hard expression etched on his face.
