I'm not a person who likes being in crowds, that's obvious to anyone who meets me. Now being in a crowd of people where I don't even know one person? That's even worse because I don't know who I'll turn to because I'll be all alone. I miss Anais because she's always been the person I can be myself around. Without her I always feel like an outsider wherever I go, it doesn't help that I don't even have a single sibling.
Although I think it's better than I don't have any other siblings, no matter how much I want them. I wouldn't want my mum to work more than she already does, especially with the current world we live in.
You heard me right, this world is not.. normal. But I'm the last person to ever say that because I'm not a victim in making the world not normal because I'm not exactly a human.
Years ago, when I was four years of age, a new world was introduced after a war broke out between species when a discovery had been made. Witches teamed up together and took down hierarchies of different species of the moon realm.
The moon realm is the realm that was broken down centuries ago by a human attempting to perform dark magic using a pure witch's blood under the moonlight. That way the person opened a gateway between this realm where only humans and witches existed and the deal of predators. The moon realm.
The moon realm consists of creatures of the night. Many of them but the most civilized, as civilized as they can be are the shapeshifters and fanged devils. Formally, they have many names in many languages but third formal names have been the Lycanthropes and the Strigoi/Nesferatu. In mordern day they are known as the werewolves and Vampires.
Once the two species, among others, were introduced to this world, they discovered the existence of the other species. One the wolves deemed lesser than them in power therefore would make great slaves for to use for their personal purposes. Meanwhile the bloodsuckers discovered they taste better than any other creature they have ever gotten their hands on and therefore it is obvious what they saw what their use was.
Only, these creatures weren't as defenseless as they expected for some of them had discovered the art of their ancestral magic. And with that the witches came together, they used all they had in their power to take down the hierarchies of these creatures in hopes of them giving up their ways of oppressing those they deem less.
Only, their actions brought upon a worser fate for humans for these creatures stayed in the dark, which is why the humans turned against the witches. The vampires were first to introduce themselves when their Emperor fell and their Empress, far more cruel, took claim of the throne and treated humans as if they were nothing but cattle. Rumor has it that her favorite meal was young virgin girls for their blood was pure and gave her more power.
Next, the son of werewolf royalty whose sister's mate was abducted and used for rituals causing her and endless suffering for decades before she finally gave up on life. He used humans for labor and mistreated them for decades until today's laws came.
With the high demand both these creatures had of humans, the human leaders of different kingdoms came to a conclusion. Since the real murderers of their loved ones are witches, all locations of their witches were given as an offering for peace. So they can have a sense of peace and be able to raise their offspring without fear.
The wolves chose this peace, in an understanding that they themselves have children. There is nothing more important to a wolf than its pack, just as the humans wanted to protect their packs. The treaty was taken, with the promise that every witch that is discovered by either the wolf or the human should meet their end on the spot. Although, many packs still treat humans as they have before, and there's nothing that can change a werewolf's ego from believing humans are inferior beings to them.
Vampires however did not take the treaty. Though the son of vampires thought of the treaty as good and right for the kingdoms and it lessens the human's extinction for they still have use for them for their blood. The Empress' craving for power overpowered her need to protect and rule her Empire as need be. Instead, she raged a new war.
The new war was nothing new though for the werewolves and the vampires had been in war before they were introduced in a new world, they fought for power. To prove the more superior being. Except this time, the Empire demanded humans to belong to the vampires after they murdered the witches and rid the threat that kept her from what she so deserved.
The wolves fought back as barbarically as they had been attacked, for they still refuse to be seen as inferior to the Strigoi. The war raged for years, so much so that the extinction of humans, since they have short life spans was close. And that's when the son of vampire royalty decided to act.
The son of the vampires did what no other could've done, he killed his own mother and took power in his hands. In the vampire world, there's a difference between taking power and committing treason. The vampire boy took power by challenging his mother for her position, even if she did not want to she was required to take the challenge if made publicly. And as he expected, his mother whom wasn't born of royalty lost easily to him even if he was a young vampire, barely even in his fifties.
After the son of vampires took over, he signed a treaty with the werewolf King and new Queen for peace among species. Peace with humans and peace with werewolves for the same reason as them. To protect his kind from further bloodbath.
Only, the new vampire Emperor was introduced to a new feeling prior to the love his father showed him, the feeling of hate. He too hates the witches with a burning passion that he was rumored to never kill a witch on the spot. He had different torture methods on them and on any traitor in his lands. He's a cruel and malicious Emperor, created by his mother's evil ways but he is still the favored Emperor. The right Emperor in the eye of his people.
This was over a century ago.
A century ago different wars among the species of three took place. Three wars between the moon realm creatures, the humans and the witches, and then finally the wolves and the vampires before peace came to be. And in those three wars, my kind suffered more just for trying to help.
I've read a lot of history books with the need to know exactly what happened. I wanted to know why it's so hard for my kind to exist in this world, hey they haven't learned forgiveness. But thinking about it, the witches attempt was way off if they wanted to take down the hierarchies, they underestimated a child's hatred. Those children did more than their ancestors did and thus the existence of innocent people is now against the law. It's unfair.
I had to hide most of my life hence I have not started school when I was twelve and mom couldn't afford me a home teacher anymore. A child is expensive, especially when they get to their teenage years, so public school it is. But after years and years of fighting for my claim of my late father's belongings, mom finally won the case.
His mother's house that was situated in a small town in America, the one we are moving into today is not technically in my name but is overrun by my guardian, my mom. Since they were never legally married, everything now belonged to me.
Mom was a nurse for most of my life but before we moved here she did a bit of job hunting and now will be working as a doctor. Although she's still in training but if I know my mom, I'm sure she will do well. She gave me that ability of optimism and working until I achieve my goal. No matter how many failures I go through.
Our lives admittedly changed for the better. A new house under our name, no rent or nothing. A new school all private and high profiled therefore the proper education for me. And a new job, a dream job for my mom. It is all amazing, although there's still cons to it.
My con is that I won't get to see my best friend Anais for I don't know how long. And I have to be introduced to a new crowd, again, and I have to try and keep out of sight and interest of people. I am a magnet for negative fame, believe me when I say so.
For mom, it's the fact that she has to be close to her twin sister Evangeline, they hadn't talked since, well, since she left town. Mom and dad are Americans, but they moved to Europe because of Dad's situation. He was discovered what he is while I was still in my mother's womb, so they fled without another word to anyone this causing the twins to grow apart.
Although, mom tells me Aunt Eva is excited to meet me, she's the only one who knows what I am. Not even her ex husband or daughters know for safety precautions. She's always wanted to meet me and honestly, I can't wait to meet her.
After mom and I are done unpacking and readying our home, she starts working on some documents she said she needs so she can redo her license. Apparently you always have to have a license once you move to a new country which I think is a bit dramatic but hey, it's the law.
"Aren't you excited you get to meet your cousins?" I almost jump at mom's voice from the doorway of my new room. My very baby blue colored room, no doubt she had it colored for me.
"I am." I respond hugging my iPad to myself, Anais gave it to me so we can talk through it specifically so she can Skype me even when we're at school instead of using our laptops. "I just hope they feel the same way." I add.
Mom is very aware of my insecurity of having people dislike me for no reason. I mean, I'm no people pleaser waiting for everyone to dislike me but you know how teenagers are these days. You wear glasses, braces if you are smart then you're deemed a loser. I honestly don't understand it. Everyone starts picking on you once the "cool kids" start seeing you as a punching bag.
Out of all those things, I only ever had braces that I took out last year when I was fourteen and of course my grades are always at best. I mean, I was homeschooled after all. And yet I get picked on just because I choose solitude. Anais suffered the same fate because apparently loser is contagious, she liked hanging out with me and by association she was like me. But unlike the others, she never cared.
Her brother however liked looking at me a lot, I had a crush on him also because he's dangerously hot. But because he hung around wolves a lot since he was a jock, we never acted on the feelings that were clear between us. Well, I had a major crush on him, Anais used to tell me he had a major crush on me too but was too much of an idiot to hide it all those years.
Mom steps inside the room and casually takes a seat on my bed and starts brushing my hair softly. She does that a lot to comfort me, it always works.
"It's not possible for them not to. An emerald is not everyone's favorite rock but it's one of the most expensive ones, only the ones with great taste can see its true value." Did I mention my mother speaks like she's walking around reading a literature book? She always knows what to say and when to say it.
"I know." I smile softly at her while looking up at her green eyes. She fucks a strand of my raven hair behind my ear before landing a soft kiss on my forehead.
"Good. Now call that crazy friend of yours, I know she can be over dramatic." I chuckle when she ruffles my hair like a little kid.
She's right, there's no one who panics more than Anais, she always has energy prior to her chubby nature. She's always panicking whenever I don't call her when I promise to like I'm her child instead of mom. I don't understand it really, she's younger than me by a year and yet she treats me like a child only because she's a few inches taller. Yep, thats't life. But I appreciate her, she's the best friend any girl needs.
"You donkey's arse!" Those are the first words to come out of her when she accepts my video chat request.
"You say the sweetest things to me you know." I say lovingly, knowing she doesn't even care. Seriously, she's like a mother hen, it's a problem.
