Marcy was laying in bed.

It had been a few weeks since she had moved, and things weren't as good as she had hoped.

The kids at school didn't like her as much. They teased her for having short hair and playing video games, saying that stuff was "only for boys." They also teased her for being a lesbian. Why? Marcy didn't know. She just assumed that they were a bunch of homophobic jerks who could go shove themselves in a locker for all she cared.

She had also begun getting migraines. These splitting headaches often came with symptoms of sickness, and sensitivity to light and sound. She actually could feel one coming on, which is why she was in bed with NO video games instead of being in bed WITH video games. She felt hot tears sting her eyes and roll down her cheeks. "Stupid migraines."

Just then, her phone buzzed. Marcy reached for it, seeing it was a text from Sasha.

***********

Sashy <3: Hey Marce, can we FT? I need help with this stupid homework.

Mar Mar :D: Does your teacher assign homework on the weekends? Today is Saturday.

Sashy <3: Yup :P

Mar Mar :D: Ugh that sucks. Sure just a moment.

***********

She set her phone down and took a deep breath. "The medicine should be kicking in any time now..." She thought before wincing, as it hurt to think.

She laid there for a while until her phone buzzed again.

***********

Sashy <3: Mar Mar, you there?

Mar Mar: Yes, sorry

Sashy <3: No worries. Anne's at my house so she'll be on the call too, that alright?

Mar Mar: Yep, all good

Sashy <3: Kay, I'm gonna call now

***********

Her phone buzzed with an incoming facetime call. She accepted, propping herself up on her elbows as a picture of Sasha and Anne lit up on the screen.

"Hey Marce!" Anne greeted her.

Marcy forced a smile on her face. "Hey Anne!"

Sasha stared at Marcy for a moment. "Geez Sash, I know I look great but at least ask me to dinner first."

Sasha's face flushed and her eyes widened as Anne laughed.

Sasha sighed, "No Marcy, you just kinda look sick."

Marcy put on a face of fake offense, "Do I really look that bad?"

Sasha sighed, "No, Marcy you know what I mean." She raised her voice a little, which didn't help with her migraine.

"Ugh, Sash I'm fineeee." She waved her hand as Anne looked closer at the screen.

"Wait, Marce, is that a bruise on your cheek?"

"Frick," Marcy thought. She definitely wasn't gonna tell them that a bully had punched her in the face after she had stood up to him.

"Oh, yea- I- just ran into a wall! You know how clumsy I am!" She forced a smile on her face.

Anne stared at her for a moment longer, "Alright..."

Sasha clapped her hands together, making Marcy reach up and cover her ears as a reflex. "Okay, now on to the homework-" She paused when she saw Marcy.

"Hey, Mars, are you having another one of those migraines?" Sasha asked, her voice soft.

Marcy slowly brought her hands down from her ears with a sigh. "No, but I feel one coming."

Sasha frowned, her eyes more concerned than upset, "Mars, if you wanna rest, I'm sure I can figure this out on my o-"

"No! I'm fine!" Marcy cut her off. She didn't want to burden her friends with her own silly problems. She could take care of this on her own.

Sasha and Anne shared a look before glancing back at the screen, "If you say so..."

After Marcy helped Sasha with her homework, Sasha thanking her millions of times, they just began talking.

"So, Marcy, how has your school been?" Anne asked.

Marcy shrugged, "Same as always, the other students don't really like me though..."

Sasha looked up from whatever the heck she was doing, "Why?"

"One, my hair is too 'boyish,'" The raven-hair girl said with finger quotes, "Two, video games are also apparently boy things and just for boys, and three, I'm a lesbian. They're just a bunch of homophobic jerks that can go jump off a cliff for all I care."

Sasha burst out laughing. "Wow! When did our little Mar Mar become so bold?" She elbowed Anne who looked concerned.

"Marcy, do they ever...do anything to you?" Anne asked.

"SOOOO how have you two been?" Marcy asked, ignored the other girl's question.

Anne stared at Marcy for a moment while Sasha spoke, "Oh, it's been fineeeee. School has been normal and everything."

A small smile grew on Marcy's face, "Does Maggie still look like the Wendy's logo?"

Anne snickered and Sasha burst out laughing, slamming her hand on the desk in her room.

"Dang Mars! I HAVE  to use that on Maggie!" Sasha cackled.

Marcy giggled with them, but if she was being honest...............

This was making her migraine worse.

They continued talking and stuff, all while Marcy's headache grew worse. The girl felt hot tears stinging her eyes, thretaning to fall down her face.

"...and THEN, he said-" Anne rambled until she saw Marcy. "Marcy...?" Anne asked.

"Hm?"

"Are you okay?"

She realized a few stray tears had rolled down her face.

"Hm? Oh yea, I'm fineeee" She wiped the tears away with the back of her hand as Sasha and Anne shared another concerned look.

"Marcy..." Sasha began, "We can end this call if you want...you're obviously in pain-"

"NO!" Marcy flinched at the volume of her own voice, her ears ringing as she put her hands over them.

She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and sighing. "No, I want to be able to talk to you two."

"We can always talk later Mars!" Anne said, and Sasha nodded.

"No, no, get back to the story Anne."

Anne hesitated.

"...please?"

Anne sighed, continuing where she left off.

After she finished her story, Sasha was about to tell one of her stories. "Wait, hold on Sash, I'll be right back."

Marcy hurried away to the bathroom, vomiting in the toilet before reaching for some medicine. She opened the cabnet and found what she was looking for, but then she saw her reflection in the mirror wasn't facing her.

"Huh?" Marcy squinted closer at the mirror before shaking her head. "Dang, these migraines really mess up my vision." She squinted at the perscriptions. Marcy's parents had taken her to a doctor to get medicine for these migraines when they realized how bad they were.

Marcy squinted at the bottle, it said to take them every 6 hours.

The last time she had taken them had been 11:03 AM. It was currenly 3:15PM. Marcy sighed, but her persitant headache begged her to take some more.

"Its just a few hours off...I'll be fine...:

She took the medicine and headed back to her room, where Anne and Sasha were waiting.

"Hey! I'm baaack~" Marcy said in a sing-song voice.

Anne and Sasha were chatting before looking at the phone. "Hey Marce!"

Marcy smiled before Sasha noticed something. Marcy had dark circles under her eyes.

"Marcy, have you been sleeping enough?"

Marcy was definitely not going to tell them the migraines had been disrupting her sleep, so she lied.

"Yea, why?"

Sasha hesitated before looking away. "No reason."

They continued joking around until Sasha and Anne had to go.

"Bye Mars!"

"See ya later!"

"Bye!"

As soon as the call ended, Macy let out a breath of relief before flopping back on her bed.

She felt darkness surround her, and she was too exhausted to fight against it.

The fourteen-year-old's body slowly relaxed as she fell asleep.

(Wooo! First chapter done!)

(I hope to see you in the next one!)
