Leo's POV
I'm finally back in Baja. Kristen and I are no longer a thing anymore. Not that we were but you know the contract is over. I walked into Kate's hotel room while she was in set. I just need her to help me get Kenna back.
I lounged on her couch for hours until I heard the door open up. She didn't notice I was there because when she did see me she jumped
"Leo are you out of your mind?! I thought you were an intruder"
"Sorry" I laughed
"How was the premiere?" She questioned as she took her shoes off
"Yeah it was good, the movie turned out better than expected"
"Well that's good, sorry again for not being able to come with you"
"Oh no don't worry about it I knew you were busy with filming"
"Yeah and I mean you had Kristen to keep you company" I watched as she rolled her eyes
"We're not together"
"What?!"
"Long story but I'll leave it for another time"
"Okaaaay?" She looked at me with confusion
"I actually have a favour to ask you"
"And that is?" She said as she raised a brow and slowly walked up to me
"Have you heard Kenna's new song?" Her eyes went wide
"I have..." she hesitantly said
"Ok have you got a copy of it or something?" I ran my hands through my hair and looked at the ground
"I have it downloaded on my phone...why Leo?"
"Well I need to listen to it" she immediately shook her head
"Nope this isn't happening, now if you excuse me I've had a long day of filming and I just want to relax now"
"Why won't anyone let me listen to the fucking song, even my own mother has...she even questioned if the song was about me"
"Leo..."
"Please Kate?"
"Why haven't you searched it yourself?....oh whatever only because you look so damn miserable" she handed me the phone and I found the song
"Better by Kenna Rae" I said out loud as I hesitantly looked at the play button
"Do you want to listen to the song or not?" Kate rolled her eyes. I let out a sigh and hit play. I sat there listening to the song. Her angelic voice singing me the words. 'I wish I were better' really made my heart break. She really wrote a song about me. Now I've really fucked up. The song ended and I sat there with my head hung low
"Leo?" Kate snapped her fingers. I looked up at her with tears almost glazing my eyes. She let out a sigh and sat next to me
"Look I know it hurts to hear this, but she didn't write anything bad of you, just how she felt about seeing you and Kristen together"
"I couldn't care less if she wrote nasty stuff about me in her song but she didn't. She's literally comparing herself to Kristen"
"Listen Leo this was really hard for her to see you with Kristen, I think she loves you. You spent months ignoring her when you told her you'd keep in contact and you didn't even tell her you were seeing Kristen at the time she literally found out from articles, she got no closure from it at all" I nodded she was so right about all of this.
"I know" I said softly "will you help me try get her back"
"Nope no can do, I'm staying out of this one. That's all up to you to fix" she tapped my shoulders. I sighed, I'm back to square one at trying to gain Kenna's trust
"So why did you and Kristen end things anyway"
"Oh we were never back together, it was all a contract" I say without thinking because my thoughts were on Kenna
"How could you say that so casually??! You're so fucking stupid sometimes" I just shrugged.
It's now been a week or so of being back on set. I was walking along the decks of the ship when I overheard James talking to one of the crew members
"Originally I had Celine Dion booked to sing the theme song of this movie, but she's been so busy lately that she hasn't been able to record the song." I stopped in my tracks as I continued to eavesdrop "she said it may be another while before she can, so if possible I should get someone in to try sing it and get them to record it and she'll perform it and claim the song as her own" I scanned the area. First thing that came to mind was that Kenna could infact sing, Kenna could sing this song?!
"I'll see you around Marcus" he started to walk off but I found myself chasing after him
"James! Wait a second"
"Ah Leonardo how are you today"
"Not too bad, I'm sorry but I couldn't help but over hear you say you needed someone to sing the theme song?"
"That's correct, I would hold out and wait for celine but I'd really like to have closure that the song is ready, it's one of the main characteristics of the film"
"Right....do you know Kenna Rae?"
"Oh McKenna Rae Roberts? Ofcourse I do I wanted her to be rose" he chuckled
"Yes well Kenna just came out with a single"
"Aaah yes I've heard it, my daughter had it on replay all day" he laughed again
"Ok well what" James looked at me waiting for me to continue as I paused for a moment "what if I got her to do the song?" I watched as James scanned the surroundings
"That's not a bad idea Leo" I smiled, this could be my chance to smooth things over with her. "I tell you what, you get her down here in the next couple of days and I'll give you a day off"
"Ok you've got it" I smiled as he pat my shoulder and walked off. I've got to tell Kenna. I brang up my phone and tried calling her. No answer. I tried again. Still nothing. I don't even see the point she won't answer me. What if Kate called her? I ran all the way to the hotel like a madman then rushed through the unlocked door. Kates got a bad habit of doing that
"Kate!" She jumped
"Leo?! I swear to god" she shouted as she hit my chest. I crouched down as I tried to catch my breath
"You...have...to...do...something...for me" I huffed
"No you can't barge in here and expect me to do you a favour"
"No please you have to help me out" she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms
"I'm listening"
"James needs someone to fill in to sing the theme for the film, so we need Kenna to fly out here in a couple of days to do it"
"You ran all this way just to tell me, what exactly do you want me to do" she emphasised her "me" and I scratched the back of my neck
"Can you please call her and ask her"
"Can't you?"
"Well I've tried. Many times actually and she won't pick up. Please" I was now practically begging
"Alright, but I'm doing this for James...not for you" she picked up her phone and hit call on Kenna's contact
"Put it on speaker"
"No" she swatted me away but not fast enough before I hit the speaker button
"Leo?!"
"Hey Kate" Kenna answered
"Uh Hey Kenna"
"What's up? I thought you'd be filming" she giggled
"Nah not today, I actually wanted to ask you something"
"I'm all ears" Kate looked at me
"So I was wondering if you wanted to fly out to Baja? James Cameron is looking for a singer to fill in for celine dion. Just to sing the theme song for the film"
"Ooooook" she trailed off "wait did you say celine dion?"
"Yeah don't ask me what happened but he just needs someone to fill in to sing the song"
"No way he wants me to replace celine that's crazy.... but I don't know, I don't think I could live up to his expectations"
"Please will you do it" Kate begged as I licked my lips
"Will Leo be there?" Kate glanced at me as I looked at her with hurt
"I mean yeah, he's in the film?"
"I don't think I can face him just yet" Kate gave me a sympathetic look
"I'll make sure he keeps his distance"
"Hmmm I still don't know...will James be sending out a plane or? When will I have to be there"
"In a couple of days aaaaand..." Kate looked over at me and hit the mute button
"How is she getting here?"
"I don't know I guess I'll have to buy her tickets"
"Really Leo"
"Yes come on keep talking to her" I nudged. Kate took a deep breath
"Kate?!"
"Yeah I'm here, James will buy you tickets"
"Mmmm I still don't know...I just don't want to see Leo, he's been trying to call me lately so I know he wants to talk" at this point I couldn't just stand there anymore. I opened my mouth to go speak but Kate was quick to put her hand over my mouth
"Look I'll make sure he doesn't come near you, it'd be so good for you to come I mean it's a great opportunity"
"Right, I guess it wouldn't hurt...I'm releasing another song tomorrow so after that I should be free for a little bit"
"You have another song?!" Kate asked as they started chatting about girl stuff.
"I'm gonna go get this whole Baja trip sorted"
"Thanks Kenna, I can't wait to see you!"
"I can't wait either. Oh and Kate"
"Yes?"
"I know Leo is there, can you tell him to quit calling me I'm over it" both mine and Kate's eyes widened as we swallowed. I went to go speak again but Kate pushed me away
"Sure" and with that Kenna hung up
"Atleast she agreed"
"You just had to open your big mouth did you" she said as she pointed her finger into my chest
"Sorry"
"Look Leo she's going to be here soon, you heard her she doesn't want to see you, so leave that poor girl alone"
"But"
"I can't believe this" she scoffed "you only wanted her here because you wanted to talk to her" she poked her tongue into her cheek and shook her head. She was exactly right, I had nothing to say to that but instead stood there scratching the back of my neck
"She's doing the song and leaving, don't pester her she doesn't want anything to do with you right now"
"I know but I want to change that, I need to"
"You know if this whole contract situation didn't happen you wouldn't be in this mess"
"You don't think I know that too!?" I said in frustration
"Leo I love you, your one of bestest friends in the world, but just some of the things you do are just plain stupid, you can't possibly think that you'd get away with all of this"
"I'm just so determined to fix things you know"
"I know, just don't go hurting the poor girl, you'll just end up pushing her away further" I nodded as I stared out the window. All I did was hurt her. Back in high school, at home and now, I need to fix this
