I didn't get much sleep last night. Probably didn't fall asleep until 4 in morning. To be completely honest I couldn't stop thinking about talking to Leo earlier. It was the first time since grade 8, I wanna say, since we actually talked civilly. Which when I think about it was strange how we went from being so so close to being enemies in a way.
I looked over to my phone and it was currently 7am. Great, 3 hours of sleep, todays gonna kill me. I usually got up at this time to go for my daily jog but todays is just not cutting it. I had a table reading at 1 today so lounging around til then was on the cards.
I got up from bed and headed to my ensuite had a shower and then did my hair and light makeup. This was normal for me even if I was staying in all day. I grabbed my phone then headed out my bedroom.
As I opened my door Leo did at the same time both glimpsing at each other and giving a subtle nod at the same time. I completely forgot to message Ava asking her about the party, slowing down so Leo could pass me on the staircase so he couldn't peek my screen.
Kenna 🫶🏽 : Ava, please tell me you remember that frat party we went to on Wednesday night? I'm rooted I don't remember anything
The message delivered but I guess it's too early for Ava to reply. I walked into the kitchen to the smell of bacon and eggs. My mouth watered already craving my breakfast.
"Do you want some coffee?" I saw Leo in the kitchen getting himself a mug but standing by the others waiting for my reply
"Where's Marissa this morning?" I questioned instead
"She just had to go to the shops.... Soooo?" He hovered by the mugs. I shook my head
"Whatever suit yourself" he poured himself a coffee then sat at the table. My dad walked in all ready for the day, humming a tune then slumping into the chair.
"Morning dad, do you want a coffee?" I smiled getting up to get myself one, knowing it would irritate Leo. I just couldn't help myself hehe I looked over at him and saw him rolling his eyes
"Morning honey, morning to you too Leo, yeh if you could grab me some that would be wonderful" I smiled then heading back to the table placing both our mugs on the table.
I started eating my breakfast, starting to get a little anxious about meeting everyone I still haven't gotten an idea of who the leading guy is. That's bad isn't it? I mean he's Romeo for crying out loud
"-yeh it'll be good to get everyone together and get everyone to go through the script as a whole, I think it'll help us understand where everything is going and seeing if we need to tweak anything, Kenna don't forget about the meeting today at 1, you cannot be late?" I tuned into Leo's and dads conversation and nodded. Again blanking out whilst they talk about filming and the movie
"Exactly, I do have a few more ideas but I think I want to wait until we get on set and see how everything plays out -" I tuned in again after hearing Leo talk about ideas and being on set. My eyes opened wide. Was he my leading man? This is all too weird. Like this is Juliet's love interest
"-Paul Rudd, yeh he seems like a great guy I'm excited to meet him today actually! Who el-" what did Leo just say? I took a huge gulp
"I'm sorry but am I hearing this right?" Leo and dad looked at each other confusedly
"Are you coming to the reading today?"
"Ofcourse I am sweetie, I have to be there" dad chuckled
"No no no not you dad, Leo" I said pointing at him from across the table and him swatting my hands away. I frowned
"Kenna what'd you expect?"
"Gosh dad?! Really you casted him as Romeo???" I think I wanted to be sick I stood up and both dad and Leo gave each other a look
"Kenna sit down" he said grabbing my arm forcing me to sit. I actually think I'm gonna be sick
"Are you ok Kenna? You look like you've just seen a ghost" Leo smirked
"I'm not doing it, nah huh I am not being his Juliet, ne-"
"Kenna quit being immature" dad said giving Leo a side eye.
"Did you even read the script?" I rolled my eyes at Leo. He literally walked in on me going through the script
"I'm just saying, I quit. I'm n-"
"I'm the co-director, it's written quite clearly on the front cover and first page" Leo shook his head amused by my assumption
"And Kenna if you looked on the first page Paul Rudd is actually your Romeo" I blanked out. It was bad enough thinking Leo was casted as Romeo but even worse when he was co directing which means he some what has control over me. I can't believe dad would do that. Is this the guy he was talking about when he's been getting help with plots. I could give god a kiss for not having to kiss Leo instead but I still wanted die knowing he was co directing the film and which also meant he was coming to Mexico with us
"I gotta go kids, Leo make sure kenna's there on time please" he yelled then slamming the door behind him.
I got up and started cleaning up considering Marissa isn't back yet. I was slamming dishes quite passively aggressive, clearly frustrated that I was now having to work with Leo.
"Do you need a hand?" Leo mumbled behind me. I looked up, gritting my teeth. He held his hand up in defeat and then hopped up onto the counter behind me
"How's your script coming along anyway?" I didn't say a word continuing to wash the dishes and then slamming it into the racks
"Ok, what do you think of the storyline so far?"
"Stop just stop, what are you playing at right now?! I don't get it you're all of a sudden living in my house, and now you're pretty much my boss what are you trying to do?! Are you trying to ruin my life and mess up everything for me? Like I don't get it?" I said tears glazing my eyes then ripping my gloves off storming into the lounge room. I plopped myself onto the couch crossing my arms staring at the blank tv. I felt the couch dip next to me
"Kenna" I looked up to Leo with a sympathetic look washed across his face.
"You don't have to talk but just listen" I stayed silent turning my head back to the tv.
"Ok... well firstly you know why I'm here we talked about it last night and secondly I've been working on it for year now I am actually one of the producers. Hence why I held off buying a place of my own. Your dad told me his ideas and I loved it. I'm not trying to do anything, I don't understand why you think I'd do that" I uncrossed my arm and shifted my whole body to face him, which taken him by surprise causing him to shift back away from me.
"You're an actor Leo, why are you trying to be a director, and why out of all directors you got to be working with my dad? Doesn't make sense"
"I did a couple of movies but you out of everyone should know how intrigued I am of the filming industry. One day I do want to get into directing but your dad gave me an opportunity and I took it"
"Ok" I sighed quietly getting up to walk towards my room him following quietly and going into his. Maybe I should just give this all a chance. He does seem like he's serious about getting into directing. Hearing him before with dad he sounded quite passionate.
I fell onto my bed thinking I've been a lil harsh since he started living here. Then again he's only been here for 2 nights. Can't expect me to change dramatically overnight. Leo hasn't been half as bad as he used to be too maybe he's grown out of that phase. Only sneaky little hits thrown at me but nothing bad. You'd think I have some kind if trauma the way I was acting.
I sighed walked up to my door and opened it to see Leo's door already open. I walked up to his room and knocked seeing him sitting in his chair bouncy a ball against the wall. He turned and nodded then went back to what he was doing. I sat on his bed. Taking in the room around me. He still decorated his room the same as we were younger. My dad got the room painted dark green a couple of months ago, now realising this has been a plan for a while now only I was too daft to notice. He had posters around the room as he used to. I looked at his desk to see framed pics and trophy's and medals he's won in the past. I looked a lil closer to one of the frame pic, I got up walked over and looked at it. It was a picture of me, Kate, Leo and Tobey posing by the pool slide. I chuckled
"I forgot about this pic" I smiled showing it to Leo. Leo walked over.
"Yeh I actually have a lot of pictures of us growing up"
"That's right you had that camera my dad gifted you for your 10th bday" I softly smiled at the memory and popped the frame down before sitting on his bed him sitting on the bed aswell
"What happened?" I blurted out, we seem to be able to talk to each other without bickering I think it's time to talk it out
"What happened as in?"
"What happened to us? We were best friends for so long and then high school came and then we hated each other"
"I never hated you"
"You sure acted like you did, I didn't go a day without you teasing me and that rumour you made up about me sleeping with 5 guys in grade 11"
"I made no rumours what are you on about"
I shot up "are you trying to say I did sleep with 5 guys?! Because I can confirm it never h-"
"Calm down, I meant I never made those rumours up? I heard it too but to be clear I never did and never have made a rumour about you?" He made eye contact with me somehow calming me down to sit down again
"If it makes you feel better I tried shutting them down, but you know how our group is everyone besides Kate and Tobey we're all a bunch of shit stirrers"
"And Ava..."
"Please Ava was the worse of them" I frowned now confused and questioning who I trusted back then
"Anyway high school is in the past, we were all in our heads trying to fit in with society, I can assure you I am not like that anymore, I've cut everyone off the second I left" I nodded it was some what true in a way. Everyone was too busy trying to be liked and trying to reach popularity, they'd do anything to be apart of our group. I didn't really care in that matter, I was just somehow pulled into it but I never understood why.
Leo sat back on to his pillows and smiled. I did the same. We used to share a bed all the time but this time around it was different, I guess we haven't done it in a very long time
*ding ding*
I looked at my phone and saw that Ava messaged me back. Thankgod for that
Ava : girllll you have no idea I'm gonna have to see you soon to let you know the deets. I'll send you a pic see if that sparks a memory AHAHA
The pic came through
"OMFG" I gasped it was me standing on top of a keg half naked just me in my bra and undies with people surrounding me watching it unfold.
"What is it?" Leo laughed
I covered my eyes in shame and flipped my phone around showing Leo. His eyes widened and his faces turned crimson. I pulled my phone back realising I showed him a pic of myself half naked. I could just burry myself in a grave now
"Come here" he put his arm around me some how getting me to calm down and I popped my head on his shoulders
"Naw I missed my Kenna panda" he said squeezing my cheeks. I hit him in the chest
"Hey, Don't call me that! I still don't forgive you for all that teasing" I frowned still laying in his arms. He stayed quiet and my eyes started to feel really tired. I guess I needed to catch up on sleep. A nap before the meeting wouldn't be too bad I guess
I kept blinking as Leo all of sudden has his hand raking through my hair. He cleared his throat
"I don't know if we're ok now but just know that I take my work seriously, I keep my private life and work seperate. I won't treat you any differently to anyone else....if that's what your worried about" I relaxed to him saying that. I guess this wouldn't be so bad after all but I was not letting my guards down I'm still hurt from him treating me so awfully bad.
