The next morning was a... let's just say not a great day.
Not for me but for Maggie.
Everyone was talking about how she stood up for the 'queen' of our school. Some of them congratulated her and some of them trash talked her.
I don't get what it so importante about standing up for herself. Maggie had every right to defend herself, plus it was no big deal. The girl spilled her food on my friend. In my opinion she deserved it and Maggie wasn't the kind of girl to be stepped on.
The so called queen is a sophomore and has every guy wrapped around her little finger. She was dead gorgeous and every guy wanted her.
She was capable of doing the impossible and who knows what she can do to Maggie. God help us from the 'evil queen'.

We were at the cafeteria. I was with Luke and Maggie at our usual table. Maggie was next to Luke and I was sitting across from them. Luke was acting weird and I didn't know why. I wanted to ask him but I feared that with Maggie's presence I would embarrass him because I know that he liked her and I was waiting for the day that he asks her out.
They are totally meant to be together, they are really cute.
Anyway, I let the matter drop and decided to ask him later on what's going on with him.
We were just talking when a guy came up to us. He was tall and really hot. Everyone says 'what matters is what's inside' but when once you see this guy you'll say 'screw that, he's on fire'.
He looked at me and said ''So you're THE Maggie''
''Um.. no, she's the Maggie'' I responded pointing to my best friend.
I was surprised I didn't stutter. I was always nervous around guys. I remember when I talked to Luke for the first time, I was like a tomato.
He smiled at her but then returned his gaze to me.
''You have a confident friend'' he said smiling to me. But I wasn't sure why he was talking to me. Maggie was the center of interest, not me.
I could feel Luke's eyes on me. Since I helped him out, we became really close and he was very overprotective when it came to me and I didn't know why. Maybe I was too vulnerable to protect myself that he did it for me.
Well, he was being a nice friend and I loved him for that, you know, in a friendly way.
The guy surprised us all when he took a seat next to me. I could feel my cheeks heat up. Maggie sent me a stop-being-shy-and-talk-to-the-guy kind of look.
''By the way, I'm Jake. I just moved in town a couple of days ago and this morning at school all I heard was that a certain Maggie stood up for th queen bee of the school.''
Well, that explains why I've never seen him these last three weeks.
He was taller than me even though I was really tall for a girl. He had dark eyes that you can easily get lost in them and his smile, his beautiful smile was perfect.
I was shortly taken back to reality by a little shake from Luke. Maggie noticed that I was staring at Jake and she began to laugh and soon Luke joined.
But Jake oblivious to what's happening turned to me with a questioning look. I blushed and smiled at him. He was so cute.
''So are you too together?'' Jake asked Luke and Maggie whose cheeks turned a dark shade of red.
''NO'' they shimmed together.
Luke looked slightly embarrassed and then focused on his lunch as did Maggie.
Jake was about to ask something when he was interrupted by a bunch of students bursting into the cafeteria. I recognized one of them: Susan, the queen bee of the school.
Maggie's face turned from embarressed to angry. Luke grabbed her hand to keep her from doing something she'll definitely regret later.
When she met his eyes, her face softened and I knew that moment something was going on between the two of them. As I said I'm just waiting for Luke to ask her out.
Susan stood up on a nearby table and said out loud:
''Freshmen, we now announce to you that we have chosen our victim for this year. He or she will suffer in consequence of their acts''
Maggie was now more than angry. She freed her hand from Luke's grip and exited the cafeteria.
I slowly stood up, excused myself from the table and went to find my best friend.
Luke and Jake both understood I had to leave. But before I leave Luke spoke "Pease make sure she's okay" And I nodded.
She's my best friend and even though she acted tough all the time, she is still human and she still has feelings.
I found her sitting on the grass, her back against a tree and her head in her hands.
And I knew for a fact that she was crying.
"I know they chose me. I know it. And I'm scared of their prank, Hailey. What if they pull out something I can't predict or control? They'll destroy me. Susan was the victim last year and she is seeking for revenge. I don't know what I'm going to do. Hailey I'm scared"
"It's going to be okay Mags, I'm here for you and now you have Luke and we'll get through this together. You know how dumb Susan is, she won't be able to pull an unpredictable prank. You're way smarted than her, you won't get into her trap"
She didn't say a word, she just hugged me and cried.
After she was calm again she spoke up "I want to go home"
''Okay''
And so we skipped school together. That's what's best friends are for.

We were sitting on the couch watching some random film Maggie picked out when my phone buzzed. It was Luke asking if she was okay.
So I grabbed my phone and quicky replied.
From Hailey
'Yeah, she'll be fine. She just needs time to rest'
From Luke
'Okay, call me if you or Maggie need anything'
I focused on the film but I couldn't keep my head from thinking about the guy I met today, Jake. He was really handsome and he wasn't arrogant or stupid or like any other guy in our school who are being plain dumb trying to impress Susan.
I need to stop thinking about him. I just met the guy, I don't even know his last name.
Before I knew it the film ended and Maggie and I went to bed. She called her parents to tell them she was stayin over and then we closed the lights and slep like babies.
But unfortunately that sleep was interrupted in the middle of the night by the sound of someone crying. I thought it was Maggie so I stood up and went to the living room only to find her still sleeping oblivious to what's going on.
I went back to my room thinking that I hallucinating only to hear the crying sound closer.
I opened my window to reveal a drunken Luke crying and stubling trying his best to not fall down.
I quickly went down stairs and opened the back door for him. He stumbled into the house with a lot of noise. Thank god my parents are heavy sleepers and I'm sure that my brother would tell them that I had a boy in the house.
I led him to my room and he crawled into a ball on my bed. I was confused. Why was he drunk? Why is he here? And what the hell happened?
"Luke?" I breathed next to his ear as I gently shook his shoulder lightly.
But instead of answering me, he kept rambling on and on.
"I can't do this... She'll hate me... Why is this happening to me? I can't do this... I can't... If I don't they'll kill me. Why does he hate me..."
I didn't understand a thing. What the hell happened?
"Luke, what happened? Who's they? And what are you going to do that she, who ever that is, is going to hate you for it?"
''They want to destroy her, I can't do it! She'll hate me! But if I don't, they'll destroy ME!'' He cried into the pillow.
Okay, they're so use in talking to him now, it's like talking to a wall. So I wrapped him up in a blanket and he quickly drifted to sleep.
When I was sure he was asleep, I went back to the living room and crushed on the opposite couch from Maggie.
But soon I heard a crush coming from my bedroom.
Whar did he do now? Wasn't he asleep?
I quickly stood up and ran to see if he was alright.
I found him on the floor of my bathroom with vomit all over the place.
"I'm sorry, I was trying to reach the bathroom but I fell. I'm sorry I threw up on your floor"
"It's okay, I'll clean it up"
I helped him stand up and he went back to the bed. I quickly cleaned the floor and was about to go back to the living room to sleep when Luke's low voice stopped me
''Can you please stay with me?'' he asked patting the spot next to him on the bed.
''Um.. Sure'' I responded hesitantly.
I layed down beside him and we both drifted to sleep with me still wondering what happened.
