Just to blend in, nagsuot lang din ako ng light green off-shoulder draped blouse and white pencil-cut skirt.

Not that I hate weddings but really, nakakaantok ang ceremony kung audience ka lang, especially with this kind of setup na ang iba, nanonood lang sa TV from the auditorium para lang makita ang mga nasa cherub fountain na ikinakasal.

I was busy checking my emails kasi nagsunod-sunod ang email sa akin na hindi ko pa natse-check mula pa noong nakaraang two weeks. Finishing kami ng suits that time so I made an auto-reply na babalikan ko sila after my current commitment.

Umaasa akong walang importanteng content doon until I saw an email from Sun-Dias Inc.

They handled all my endorsements and ads. I am the face of Sabrina's, and that brand was under Sun-Dias. I worked hard for that specific brand, and Mum knew what I'd been through just to get this big-time opportunity to have my own name aside from being a Dardenne.

Hi Sabrina,

I hope you're doing well.

It has come to my office that you are planning to get married soon, and we already received the notice from your office.

May I remind you about the terms of our contract:

3.2.2

To maintain the face of Sabrina's, the client must remain on her civil status: single, to keep the brand exclusive for single women.

We are still in consideration of your trademark revocation. I am hoping you have time so we can talk privately regarding your upcoming wedding and the termination of our contract.

I'm looking forward to seeing you in my office.

Sincerely,

Olga J. Serrano
Senior Vice President
Sun-Dias Inc.

It felt like I lost all my energy after reading that email.

Shit.

"Mum, care to explain about Madame Olga's notice about my brand revocation?"

Mum barely looked at me and was contented with her slight glance at her back. "Sabrina, hindi mo ba nakikita, ongoing pa rin ang ceremony," she said in almost a whisper.

"Sun-Dias is terminating my contract for my brand!" I whispered loudly.

"Mamaya na tayo mag-usap diyan. Can't you see?" She pointed the fountain. Patrick and Melanie were kneeling in front of the altar. "Nag-a-assist na ang kuya mo. Minsan ko lang 'tong mapapanood."

And she really had the audacity to prioritize Kuya over the couple na ikinakasal, ha!

Mum and her nonsense viewpoints!

I almost forgot about that agreement. Although matagal naman na kasi 'yon. Ten years ang validity ng contract, and that was signed when I was twenty-one. Five years pa lang!

Mum might be the one handling the finances and management, pero ako ang nagtayo ng brand ko.

I stood straight when Clark stood up from his seat.

"And then?"

I must remain single or else, mare-revoke ang brand ko!"

"Oh, wow. Kailan mo nalaman?"

I quickly handed him my phone and I glanced at the pathway we were heading.

"Aw! Oo nga pala, may market nga pala kayong hini-hit. I see, I see."

Ang daming naka-lineup na marketing plans and brand strategy for this year ang brand ko.

He handed me my phone and he ran inside the men's room na nasa dulo ng auditorium. "Pag-usapan natin 'yan after ng wedding. Sunday ngayon, walang office."

I crossed my arms and legs and looked at the fountain like I was gonna burn the whole place down any time soon.

And now, single na nga ako, bawal pa akong mag-asawa!

I'm already twenty-six, though when Sabrina's started, twenty-one pa lang ako. That was too young to marry. Twenty-three years old nga, need pa ng consent ng guardians para magpakasal.

January pa lang. Magre-release ang Sabrina's ng bagong brand ng facial soap and hydrating serum before May. Tatapusin lang itong wedding ni Patrick na main priority sa last quarter last year. By March, may product testing na kami. May photoshoot na rin for billboards. Kumukuha na rin kami ng schedules and slots for TV ads.

Mum should fucking know that because she was managing my schedule and activities. So what now? Lahat 'yon, canceled? For what? For my supposed wedding?

We hired experts and cosmetic chemist for formulas!

"Sab."

Really? Sobrang shameless, ha.

My gaze was following him until he stopped in front of my seat and sat on his heels. He placed his folded arms on my lap and looked up to see me clearly.

"Kanina ka pa nakasimangot. Akala nila, nag-away tayo."

I have so many plans for this year, and I'm not gonna let her ruin my projects because of her bravado. And I'm not gonna marry you if that means I'm gonna lose everything I worked hard for the past years of my profession."

Clark answered me with a sigh and a slight nod. He stared somewhere far behind my seat and nodded again.

I was looking for dismay in his reaction because I was the one declining him now, but he didn't look disappointed or sad about my sudden "no".

"I already have it sa email. I'm not sure if tuloy pa 'yon after Mum's stupid decision of taking the marriage thing to Madame Olga."

"For sure, sa clearance 'yon. Baka mag-penalty pa 'ko because of breaching my contract."

"Malamang."

"Mum cleared all of my schedules.

I tried not to grit my teeth and shout, pero nakakagigil kasi sa inis ang ginagawa ng mommy ko sa 'kin.

"She's starting to control my finances to control me," I defended. "She already did this to Kuya, and now she's doing this to me!"

"Easy ka lang." Clark gently tapped my left leg to calm me down. "Gagawan nga natin ng paraan, di ba? Chill ka lang. Ako'ng bahala sa 'yo."

Clark glanced over his shoulder to check the ceremony. They were almost done with the wedding vows.

"Mamaya." Then he gave me a thumbs up.

If this is the reason why Mum likes him a lot, hindi ko masisisi si Mum kung bakit. Sobrang reliable naman kasi talaga ni Clark. Unfortunately, it looked like we had no other choice but to play with Mum's game right now or else, mawawala sa akin ang lahat ng pinaghirapan ko.
