hiraeth - part three

»»——⍟——««

Gohan gasped, stepping behind Y/n and waving his arms around frantically, as if trying to stop Goku. Goku raised his brow at his son, confused by his actions, but Y/n's words made him realize what was wrong.

"Have you met me before?" Y/n asked. Goku gasped, trying to think of an answer, but his mind was drawing a blank.

"Ahh... N-No, but Gohan's told me about you! N-Nice to meet you!" Goku held out his hand to Y/n, which she took with a raised brow. The man was acting strange, but Y/n didn't want to seem rude by questioning it.

"Nice to meet you too, sir." She said. She immediately took note of how big and warm his calloused hands were, especially compared to hers. He only held it for a second though, hearing his name being called from one of his friends. Pulling his hand back, he patted her shoulder as he walked past her, joining his friends.

Y/n felt somewhat disappointed that he had pulled away, her hand fit perfectly in his, almost like she was meant to hold it. She stared down at her hand for a moment, before feeling a presence next to her. Her eyes drifted upwards to meet Gohan's, who gave her a smile.

"So, what do you think? He's pretty cool, right? He gets along with everyone." He said. Y/n glanced in Goku's direction, the man currently stuffing his face with food. Y/n crossed her arms before smirking, putting it bluntly to tease the boy.

"I think he's pretty cute, actually. It's disappointing he's married." She said. Gohan's face nearly exploded red, covering his mouth as he tried to hide some of his embarrassment.

"Y/n, that's highly inappropriate!" Gohan said. Y/n simply giggled, looking back over to Goku. Only this time, something caught her by surprise. The two made eye contact, Y/n quickly realizing that Goku had been staring at her now. Goku flashed her a grin, food sticking out between his teeth. Y/n chuckled nervously, giving him a forced smile in return.

"Your dad's a weirdo. Where is all that food going?" She asked. Gohan rubbed the back of his neck nervously, not wanting to mention that he had the same eating habits.

Changing the subject, Gohan urged that they join them before the food was gone, leading her into the large crowd of friends. And just like that, the party had started back up, Y/n staying much later than what had been allowed. However, she wasn't worried at all, as she had been having the time of her life.

Bulma was quite energetic and upbeat, much to Y/n's surprise as she forced her husband Vegeta out on the dance floor. Vegeta mostly stood quietly next to the dancing woman, refusing to embarrass himself.

Gohan tapped Y/n's shoulder, catching her attention as he bent over to her height, grinning at her. "Wanna dance? I'm not very good, but it might be fun."

Y/n blinked, a bit taken off guard. Gohan had been at her side nearly the entire night, despite the fact that his other friend, Videl, was here. Y/n looked around for the girl, spotting her sitting alone in an emptier part of the room, drinking a glass of punch. She looked like she was straight out of a cheesy romance movie, all prettied up with no one to dance with her.

"Why don't you ask Videl? She's been alone all night. She's probably sad." Y/n said, pointing to Videl. Gohan looked over at her, noticing that she did indeed look sad. Sighing, Gohan realized his mistake of not paying attention to his friend.

"Alright, I'll go hang out with her for a bit. But you owe me a dance." Gohan said, giving her a smile as he left to see Videl. Y/n returned the smile, though she couldn't help the growing feeling of feeling like a third wheel.

She watched as Videl immediately perked up, clearly blushing as she took Gohan's hand, the two making their way onto the dance floor. Y/n didn't even notice the frown that had begun to form on her face, until suddenly a familiar face was directly in front of her.

"What's up with the frown? Did you want to dance too?" Goku asked. Startled by the man's sudden appearance, Y/n took a step back before clearing her throat.

"Oh, no, I don't really care. I'm not good at dancing." Y/n said. Goku chuckled, shoving his hands into his pockets as he teetered on his heels.

"I'm not either, but I saw you looked kind of upset. I thought Gohan would offer to dance with you, but he's with Videl." Goku spoke. Y/n furrowed her brows, trying to figure out where Goku was going with this conversation, or if he was just talking to talk.

"Yeah, I said he should cause she hasn't had anybody to spend time with all night. Why?" Y/n asked, looking up into the taller man's eyes. Goku giggled, flashing her a smile as he took a swift step in front of her, holding out his hand.

"You want to dance with me? I know I'm not Gohan, but I'm the next best thing! Except maybe Goten..." Goku frowned as if he were genuinely debating in his head whether or not he or Goten were the next best. Y/n couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips, the feeling of disappointment being lifted from her shoulders. She wasn't even sure why she was upset.

Taking Goku's hand, Y/n felt a small jitter within her, as if something had risen from the contact within her. Goku led Y/n out onto the dance floor, passing by Gohan and Videl as they did so. Gohan looked at Y/n in surprise, shocked to see his father with her. Y/n shot him a devious grin, teasing him.

Putting her focus back on Goku, the two stopped, Goku now holding both her hands. He hummed, trying to think. He looked at the other couples who were dancing, trying to get an understanding of what to do. It looked simple, they were doing calm, slow moves that followed the beat of the music.

Replicating the others' poses, Goku took Y/n's hands, placing each on his shoulders. He placed one of his large hands on her shoulder, the girl feeling small under his touch. He placed his other on her waist, following the movement of everyone else.

"Wow, Goku, you learn pretty fast." Y/n chuckled. Goku nodded, but flinched as he accidentally stepped on her foot.

"S-Sorry. This is my first time. Chi-Chi doesn't like dancing, and I never cared to try." Goku said.

Y/n raised a brow at the man's words, confused. "If you didn't care to try, why did you ask me to dance?"

"Just wanted to. I wanted to get to know my son's best friend a little better." Goku said, although part of that wasn't entirely true. He simply wanted to get to know her because he felt compelled to. He wasn't entirely sure why, but ever since meeting her at the World Tournament, Goku had wanted to see Y/n again. She had asked a million questions a minute about him, wanting to know basically every detail of his life.

Goku had gathered pretty quickly from their previous interaction that Y/n had no memories of the events during or after the tournament. He felt somewhat disappointed that Y/n didn't remember their first time meeting, and he wasn't sure why.

Goku took a deep breath, his grip on Y/n's waist tightening slightly. His heart felt like it was racing and he wasn't sure why. Surely he wasn't sick, right? He rarely ever got sick. But it felt like adrenaline, he was having to hold himself still so he wouldn't explode.

It almost felt as blood pumping as fighting did. It riled up something in him, his Saiyan side. Maybe he needed a drink, he must've been getting sick. After the song ended, Goku stepped back, apologizing to Y/n and saying he didn't feel well, rushing off to get a drink of water.

After he had finally gotten a glass of water, Goku stood alone in Bulma's kitchen, trying to understand why his body had gotten so worked up and freaked out. Groaning in annoyance, Goku made his way back to the party, deciding to just ignore what happened.

Y/n, meanwhile, had felt like something, some part of her, was being torn from her when Goku left. It was as if he had stolen a part of her heart, as it was now aching and she felt lonely and sad. She left to go to the restroom, and to give herself a silent moment to breathe.

Y/n had been used to feeling like something was missing, like her heart was empty. But now it felt a million times worse, and she didn't understand why. Perhaps she just really enjoyed that dance with Goku? He seemed distracted half way through the song, and Y/n got the feeling that he may not even have enjoyed the dance, quickly leaving her after the first song.

Shaking her dizzy head, Y/n looked up at herself in the mirror. Something didn't feel right. She didn't feel like herself. It felt like she wasn't even looking at herself in the mirror, like her reflection was a stranger.

Y/n suddenly felt a strong urge to vomit. And so that's exactly what she did, her stomach rejecting everything she'd had that day. After getting extremely sick in Bulma's restroom, Y/n stumbled out, trying to stay standing on her two feet.

It felt like her vision was doubling as she scanned the room for Gohan, but she could barely see him through all the people in the room. Not to mention that now, she was seeing doubles of everybody. Her stomach churned, warning her to return home immediately before she got even more sick.

She nearly fell over as she tripped on her own foot, thankfully being caught by a pair of masculine hands. Y/n was pulled back up onto her feet, trying to look up to see who her savior was.

"Are you okay? You look kind of sick..." Y/n blinked, realizing the voice belonged to Goku. Despite her blurry vision, she could clearly make out his unique hairstyle.

"Y-Yeah, I am... Where's Gohan? I need to get home..." Y/n stuttered. Goku frowned, looking around for his son, but he was nowhere to be seen. Sighing, Goku scratched the back of his head, an idea popping up in his head.

"Chi-Chi won't like it, but I can take you home if you need me to. Just tell me where you live, and I'll fly you home." Goku said. Y/n nodded, quickly agreeing.

The two walked outside, quietly leaving the party. The moonlight shone brightly down on the two, the stars blotted out by the bright lights of the city. Goku lifted Y/n up into his arms, flying up into the air. After telling Goku the location of her residence, she relaxed against his warm chest, a fuzzy feeling taking over her insides.

She almost immediately felt better as the two made their way to Y/n's home. Maybe she just needed to get out of the party, it was Y/n's first time being in an event like that. She didn't have that kind of energy necessary for such events.

"How are you feeling? I don't want you getting sick on me." Goku chuckled, his chest practically vibrating against her. Y/n snuggled closer, the breeze of flying making her chilly.

"I'm okay now. I think I was just getting tired and ready to go home." Y/n said. She closed her eyes, leaning her cheek against his chest. Goku smiled down at her, letting the girl get her rest.

After arriving at her home, Goku handed the sleeping girl over to an angry man, who he assumed was Y/n's father. He then left, returning to the party, where only a few people remained now. His wife, Chi-Chi, glared at him as she stomped up to him.

"Where were you, Goku!? You just ran off during the party without telling anybody, I was worried! Especially because that other girl disappeared too, I thought you ran off with her!" Chi-Chi yelled. Goku raised a brow, confused as to why Chi-Chi would be worried about that.

"You mean Y/n? Yeah, I was taking her home." Goku said. Chi-Chi went pale at his words, nearly fainting as she slumped backwards, her eldest son catching her.

"Y/n? Why did she ask you to take her home? I was supposed to take her." Gohan asked, confused by the whole situation. First he saw the two dancing, and now Goku's disappearing to take her home? He didn't like the sound of it.

"She was sick, and we couldn't find you. So I just offered to take her. She seemed pretty tired and out of it." Goku said. Gohan frowned, feeling bad. He knew he should have stuck with her, but Videl kept insisting that she'd be fine. Sighing, Gohan pulled Chi-Chi up to her feet, who looked like she was going to be sick too, but not because of any virus like Y/n. She just couldn't believe that her husband would do such a thing.

Gohan decided he'd check on her if he saw her at school once the weekend ended. Hopefully she'd be fine by then.

Y/n wasn't so sure she could make it though. Not only did she get extremely sick, but she was now grounded and wide awake thanks to her dad. Staring at the ceiling of her bedroom, Y/n didn't feel like she'd get any sleep tonight.

She couldn't clear her mind and relax at all. Y/n couldn't resist the smile that formed on her face as she remembered Bulma's words. If she studied as hard as she could, Bulma would get her into her dream college, and then her dream job! Y/n had to wonder if she was still living in reality for a moment.

Standing up, Y/n grabbed her textbooks and paper, setting them down at her desk and turning on the lamp. If she couldn't sleep, she'd just study until she passed out. That was how she spent the next night too, waking up early in the morning to her alarm beeping loudly. Her cheek was practically glued to her desk, her papers soaked in drool, pencil still in hand.

Slowly peeling herself off the desk, Y/n stood up, shutting off the alarm before stretching out. Her bones made a satisfying pop, her eyes adjusting to the little amounts of early morning light. She opened her window curtains, looking out at the grey sky.

Y/n stood there for a moment, trying to adjust to being awake, before preparing for the first day of the week. She slipped on her school uniform, brushing her hair and teeth before making her way downstairs.

Her father was already awake, giving her a death glare as she walked down the stairs. Y/n stuck her tongue out at him, not wanting to deal with him this morning. She had already received an earful from him last night, and she didn't want to hear anymore.

Grabbing a fruit bar, Y/n walked past him, making her way to the front door when she heard her father speak. "Don't go near that Gohan boy, you hear me?"

"What!? Why not!?" Y/n whipped back around to him, glaring at him with just as fierce a look. Being a teenager would sure pay off sometimes, as she could often dish out as much anger as she received.

"He kept you out way longer than he was supposed to. His dad had to bring back your lifeless corpse!" Her dad yelled. Y/n huffed, clenching her fists.

"That was not Gohan's fault! We stayed longer because his dad was late to the party, and we didn't get to hang out with him until it was late!" Y/n argued. Her dad simply clicked his tongue, returning to his coffee and newspaper.

"I don't care. I gave a time limit, and you went way over it. It was nearly 2 in the morning when you got back, I said 10 pm!" He said. Y/n growled, looking down.

"I'm back though, aren't I? I'm eighteen years old, dad. I'll be moving out before long. Surely you can understand me wanting to go have fun with my friends at my age." Y/n said. The man sighed, looking at her from over his newspaper.

"I'm still your dad, and I still have to protect you. And as long as you live with me, there will be some restrictions. So no hanging out with that Gohan boy." He said. Y/n groaned in annoyance, stomping out of her house and slamming the door.

This was ridiculous. Surely he could understand, hadn't he ever lived a little as a teenager? "Old man..." Y/n huffed in anger.

Making her way to school, Y/n had an increasingly worse stomach ache as she walked. She couldn't think of any explanation other than her period, which did slightly worry her as she wasn't wearing anything to catch the blood.

As she walked onto school ground, she spotted a familiar boy waiting for her, reminding her of this morning. Sure, there were rules at her dad's house. But she was at school, and her dad didn't need to know. So, Y/n skipped up to Gohan, ignoring her stomach ache as well.

"Hi, Gohan!" Y/n called, catching the boy's attention. Gohan turned to look at Y/n, a grin forming on his face.

"Y/n! You look okay. I was worried after you left sick from the party." He said. Y/n chuckled, memories of the night passing through her mind again.

"Oh, yeah, but I'm fine. Your dad took care of me and brought me home." Y/n said. Gohan nodded, trying not to think too deeply into his father and Y/n being alone together. But something within him was nagging him to question her about it.

"So... You and my dad..." Gohan paused, unsure of how to word his question without sounding weird. Y/n raised an eyebrow at the boy, waiting for him to continue. "You don't... Like him, do you..?"

Y/n blinked, surprised, before laughter had escaped her lips. Like Goku? That had to have been the silliest thing ever. And Gohan sounded so worried too. She supposed she had gone too far with the teasing and had scared Gohan.

"No, of course not. He's married, and old as all get out." Y/n said. Gohan breathed a sigh of relief, chuckling. He should've known he had nothing to worry about. He wasn't even sure why he was worried, he chalked it up to not wanting Y/n to be hurt.

"Oh, okay, I just couldn't tell." Gohan said. They were silent for a moment, before Gohan's thoughts began to run rampant. If she didn't like Goku, who did she like? Did she have a crush? He blushed before letting out a small laugh, speaking again. "So... Who do you like? Do you have any crushes?"

Y/n looked up at him, wondering why he was so curious about it. Now that she thought about it, both he and Videl seemed interested in Y/n's love life. Y/n immediately thought about the worst case scenario being that she was in a love triangle, but that seemed too much like fan fiction. She really wanted to mess with them though, and perhaps even make them less interested in her love life. And so, she thought of the worst answer possible.

"Oh, I have a crush on Sharpner."

I almost forgot to update haha, I'm not used to actually following an update schedule for this story.

I'm a little worried cause I have writer's block for the part I'm on. And just this entire story in general, I haven't felt like writing anything lately.

I shouldn't have to pause updates, but idk. I guess we'll see haha.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
