I woke up to an annoying beep.
Beep beep beep...
My alarm clock said 6:00 am, ugh why so early? I hate school.
As I get ready my mom calls from downstairs: "Alice, breakfast is ready!"
"I'm coming, just have to get dressed!" I yell back as I put on my oversized Nirvana sweater and black skinny jeans with black Dr. Martens.
My mouth starts to water as I walk down the stairs. "PANCAKES! YAS, YAS, YAS! I LOVE YOU MOM!"
"I love you to honey, happy birthday!" She says as she gives me an old wooden box with golden lettering that says: 'immortalis lapis' "Open it!" She squals with delight as I lift the lid of the beautiful box to reveal an even more beautiful necklace. It's a gold necklace with a quartz stone pendant.
"It was your grandmothers." My moms says as silent tears roll down her face. "She wanted you to have it on the day you turned 16." She sniffled.
"Oh mom, it's beautiful I love it!" I say as i give her a hug. "Thank you so much, this means alot to me mom. I'll wear it everyday."
"Gramps said it was to protect you, like it had protected her and her grandmother and the grandmother before her." "It has been in the family for a very long time, you can pass it on to your granddaughter." She says as she puts it around my neck and secures the clasp.
"Now, let's eat some.... PANCAKES!" We scream in unision.

As I put my plate in the sink and look out the window, I start fiddling with my necklace. That nightmare that I was having.... It felt so real, like I was really falling, and when I woke up I had this uneasy feeling like something bad was going to happen.
"Alice! We need to get going, or you'll be late on your birthday!" My mom calls from the hallway.
"Yeah, I wouldn't want to miss anything, right?" The last part I mutter under my breath as I put on my oversized denim jacket and get my backpack. My mom is just over enthusiastic because she cares so much about me and i've been going through a tough time lately.
While we're getting closer and closer to school, I get that uneasy feeling again, but I shake it off. It's probably nothing anyway. I look at my necklace and trace the outlines of the quartz, it somehow seems to calm me down.
That's when we arrived at school...
