I sat in the holding cell with my leg shaking, looking at all the crack addicts shaking and twitching in there wit me.
"wassup" a dude came up to me scratching his self, I immediately got up and and backed up from him cause this nigga was clearly tweaking
"Kaire James" the officer called out making me snap my head looking at him
"your phone call" he said and I quickly walked out the cell
I picked up the phone and started dialing my friend duke number.i sat there listening as the phone ring and then I finally heard it pick up
"the fuck" he mumbled picking up the phone
"Yo duke" I mumbled leaning up against the wall with the phone up to my ear
"nigga yo ass in jail" duke yelled
"yeah" I mumbled laughing a little bit under my breath
"ain't shit funny bro, what the fuck happened?" Duke said, me and him had been friends since we was kids right along wit cortez. We was all pretty close which me and duke had kinda split up when all that stuff with cortez went down. But of course we was still friends.
"Found Mia fucking aj" I mumbled
"Oh lord! You killed him! Oh god!" Duke said yelling and I just laughed, he was dramatic as fuck shit didn't no make sense
"nah, they tryna charge me wit assault and shit though"
"they gave you bail" he asked
"yeah, it's like 200k" I mumbled
"I got the money at home" I said
"Uh alright I gotchu, ima be up there in a minute" he said
"where's the-" the phone call then cut off making me sigh, I hung the phone back up and the gaurd took me back to the holding cell.

I sat in the living room with my textbook and notes in front of me. Summer walker played lowly in my AirPods as the rain drizzled hitting up against my house.
I looked outside seeing the light sky and the rain drizzle down. It was only about 6:00 so it wasn't that dark yet. I frowned looking back at my notes.
It was my first year in college and so far I was doing good, which it was only the second semester and the first semester I passed wit all a's which I ain't really care if I passed wit a c as long as I passed
"normally I'm quick to switch up my playlist. In my mind, I'll pack my bag and don't say shit" I sung along to the lyrics as I read my notes in my head.
I sighed as I realized that my brother duke still wasn't home, I worried about him since his friend cortez passed away, even though he swore he could take care of his self
Early yesterday he told me he was leaving to pick up his friend but he ain't tell me who and where he was picking them up from
I sat In silence tapping my led pencil up against my leg. I then looked up hearing the front door open, I then saw my brother and his friend kai and walking in.
I only knew kai because he was always around my brother. Him, my brother, and there friend cortez were really close and they was always around each other. I just hadn't seen him in a minute though because since cortez passed they had been being distant towards each other, but I just knew they was just grieving in they on little way
I also knew him cause he was always around his girlfriend Mia who I used to go to highschool with, But Whenever you saw her you saw him and it was vise versa. He was pretty quite around me, but all my brothers friends were when I was near
"they had them cuffs tight as hell, like I was gon fucking hit her" I heard kai say and duke laughed
"I told you that bitch wasn't shit, hell cortez tried to warn you too"
"Mmcht cortez was always tryna warn somebody" they both laughed and duke nodded in agreement. they both stopped as they seen me on the couch
"hey" I mumbled waving at kai and he just nodded as he came over mad sat on the other couch
"you think he gon press charges" duke said and I just sat there because they was having a whole side conversation in front of me so rudee.
"you was in jail" i scrunched my face up, I never really seen kai as that type he was usually pretty chill
"mhm" kai mumbled
"why-mmcht shut up" duke said pinching me
"nah she good. Mia was fucking aj" he said making me give him a confused look, Mia was sneaky and everyone knew it except for him I guess. But I never would have expected for her to do it wit aj
"wow" I mumbled looking back at my notes, I just kinda put the pieces together that he had beat aj up which landed him in jail
"ion give a fuck if he do press charges, oh well" kai shrugged and I just frowned
"Nahh bro" duke said and kai just shrugged again
"well I'm finna go back to sleep since niggas wanna fight at 5 in the morning" duke said making kai laugh under his breath
"You can go to sleep too and shit yo already know" duke said and kai nodded, duke walked upstairs leaving me and Kai in the living room alone
I heard him sigh as he had his face in his hands.
"you ok" I asked and he nodded looking at me with his red eyes
"you still in school" he gave me a confused look, as he looked at my text books, notes, and computer that was still in front of me.
"yeah you know I'm in college" I mumble
"damn I still be looking at you like you lil ole soriah" he said making me chuckle, they were all older than me by 4 years. Which I was 19 making them 23.
"nope definitely not lil no mo" I said and he laughed then going silent.
"how's your mom" I asked breaking the silence, and he just shook his head. I had heard aj talking about how his mom was unresponsive and things so I just wanted to know
"still the same?" I asked and he nodded
"youn gotta act like you care" he said looking me in the eyes
"Im not acting" I chuckled, and he started looking me up and down clearly not believing me
"Just cause she ain't shit, don't got nothing to do wit me" I said poking my bottom lip out referring to Mia and he just stayed quite.
"Well ima um go take a shower" he said and I nodded
"Hold on I'll get you a towel and shit" I said running to the hall closet, I opened the door and pulled him a matching rag and towel out.
"here" I handed it to him
"thanks" he said with a little smile appearing on his face
"mhm" I said as i smiled back showing my blue braces, I then went and sat back down on the couch and got back on my computer. I heard the shower upstairs start running some moments later
