It felt like the stairs had shrunk as we were already in the living room, I felt eyes burn into me as I walked to the sofa. Kageyama let go of my hand before he spoke
"We're going to play hide and seek," he said and Hinata and Noya turned around excited
"HIDE AND SEEK?" Hinata said happily
"I LOVE HIDE AND SEEK!" said Noya excitedly
"Can I hide with Kiyoko?" Said Tanaka and Kiyoko looked at him a bit creeped out. Daichi laughed as he shook his head
"Fine, let's play then," Daichi said as he stood up. He looked at Suga and Asahi who were still playing the racing game that was on the TV
"Cmon you guys!" I said as I shook Suga and Asahi's heads from behind
"Y/NNN" they both whined
"Game. Fun. You like" I said and they groaned
"Anyways, who's gonna be IT," Kageyama said
"Not it," I said fast and everyone followed after me. The last person to call not it was Asahi
"Seriously guys?" Asahi said disappointed
"That's the rules," Tanaka said with a shrug
"Fine," he said as he looked down sadly
"Wait a second what about Tsukishima and Yachi," Noya said as he pointed at them and we all turned around to look at them
"You guys should play!" Said Hinata happily
Yachi seemed happy but Tsukishima seemed annoyed
"No. I'm not a child," Tsukishima said as he looked at us with his arms crossed
"Cmon Tsukishima!" Suga said with a smile
"We're doing a project which is something productive," he said and we all looked at each other until EVERYONE faced me. I know they expected me to convince him but I know that would just make Tsukki more mad at me
"Do I have something on my face?" I said as I touched my face and they all shook their heads
"Are you sure you guys don't want to play?" Asked Daichi and Tsukishima nodded his head before turning around. Yachi looked at us sadly but awkwardly sipped her water
"Are you not going to say anything Y/n?" Hinata asked me and I looked at Kageyama nervously hoping he would help me but he looked away from me. He was still being petty about that pinky promise
"What am I meant to do?" I said as I fiddled with my fingers nervously
"You always manage to convince Tsukishima," Suga said with a smile
"He's just... really mad tonight," I said as I looked at them all with a little smile
"Why?" Noya asked and I froze
What am I gonna say?
Kei would kill me if I told them about the argument
"Let's play, it's getting late" Daichi said and I smiled at him, thanking him, and he smiled back
"Asahi, count to 60!" Tanaka said as Asahi walked over to a corner in the living room
"Ok," he said sadly as he covered his eyes with his hands
"No cheating!" Noya said and he nodded his head.
I was the first person that Asahi found. I hid behind a plant. I had to help him find everyone else and when we got into the second round I had to be the seeker since I was found first. I found Tanaka first which means he had to be the seeker for round three. This time I was determined to be found last.
I was walking around upstairs looking for a good place to hide. I knew that Tanaka was searching since I heard him shouting things to get people to come out. I think he thought that he was a murderer and he had to convince people that he wouldn't stab them. I could hear Tanaka coming down the hall I was in so I opened a door quickly and ran into the room. I looked about and it was quite grand I expected it to be Tsukishima's parent's room since it was massive. I was looking for places to hide until I heard the doorknob moving I stood still in fear until someone grabbed my arm and pulled me into a closet. They had their hand around my mouth and I knew who it was immediately from that little interaction and because of the fact he smelled sweet like strawberries.
I looked up at Tsukishima annoyed and he reciprocated the look. Tanaka was walking around and looking in places, calling stuff out before he sighed and walked out the room closing the door behind him.
I grabbed Tsukishima's hand from my mouth and was about to speak before he put his index finger on his mouth. He creaked open the closet door slightly and looked around
"Ok, we're safe," he said as he closed the door again
"I thought you were too mature to play such a childish game," I said as I looked at him with my same annoyed face
You're meant to be making him forgive you! You're not meant to be mean
"Yachi convinced me," he said as he crossed his arms
"Well, you must really have a soft spot for her," I said nervously. My voice had a tinge of sadness in it which scared me. Why was a part of me sad?
"Isn't that what a crush is?" He said and I nodded my head
"You must really like her then," I said as I copied him and crossed my arms as well. The closet was quite big but still a small proximity, I had room to move back so I did, I leaned back until my back hit the cold surface of the wood.
"I guess," he said coldly but I knew that it was more than just "I guess" he liked her a lot. Maybe even loved her.
"You don't have to hide how much you like her from me. I mean we're in the same boat, aren't we?" I said as I smiled a little
"There is no 'we' anymore. Me and you are no longer friends" he said and I felt a pit in my stomach grow... his words made me feel empty
"So then why did you save me?" I asked with hope
"You're a bad seeker," he said with a shrug
"Why are we still in this closet?" I asked. I hit myself mentally for asking in case he told me to get out. I didn't want to leave this closet because then I wouldn't be this close to Tsukishima again. It felt nice to be this close to him
"It's our hiding place, duh," he said as his arms fell beside him
"Oh" is all I could say
"They are taking a damn long time," Tsukishima said annoyed
"I know, we wouldn't want you being away from Yachi for too long" I said as I laughed a little and Tsukishima looked down at me madly "what? Did I say something" I asked as I shrugged
"You're so annoying," he said. Usually, when he calls me annoying there is a little bit of joke in his voice and that's how I manage to ignore all the mean things he says to me. From that little bit of joking-ness. But when he said it this time, he was serious. There was no sense of a little bit of joke in his voice. He meant it. I was annoying him.
I couldn't reply. I was too scared that I would seem sad if I replied. I was too scared that I would cry if I replied. It would be the third time he made me cry today.
"Fuck. I'm sorry" he whispered as he sighed. He looked at me with guilt his mad expression was nowhere to be found. His voice was filled with regret and warmth
"It's fine I'm just gonna go. This hiding spot is bad anyway" I said as I was about to open the closet doors but he stopped me by stepping closer to me, blocking the handles
"We haven't been found yet so obviously the hiding spot is ok," he said as he looked down at me I tried to step more back into the closet wall but it was impossible
"Why did you get so angry this morning?" I asked him and his face was changing expressions every second, obviously going along with how fast he was thinking
"Because you were so against hanging out with me," he said with a straight face not letting him show any of the emotions that previously crossed his face
"Kei... you know what our relationship is like. It would have been weird if I showed how excited I was" I said nervously
"But why does it have to be like that?" He asked me as he looked a little sad
"Because we make it like that"
Before he could say anything else the closet doors flew open and the light burned my eyes as I focused on the person staring at me and Tsukishima madly. Kageyama looked at me angrily for the millionth time tonight
He didn't say anything just stared at both of us mad, Tsukishima moved away from me and rolled his eyes at Kageyama.
Kageyama looked away and shouted "they're both here" soon the whole team crowded into the room
Why is he even angry?
Probably because he caught you talking to Kei, Y/n
"OMG IM THE LAST PERSON YOU FOUND!" I said happily as I stepped out of the closet
"So am I," Tsukishima said as he stepped out slowly. I ignored him and continued having my party
"Who is the seeker next?" I asked
"We're actually pretty tired," Tanaka said as he yawned. The whole team nodded their heads as most of them yawned
"Is it bedtime then?" I asked sadly and Daichi rubbed the back of his neck
"Don't worry Y/n, we can play tomorrow!" Daichi said and I smiled at him
"Really!" I said excitedly
"No," Tsukishima said and it took everything in me to not turn around and give him an angry look
"Do you guys hear that annoying bug?" I asked and I could feel Tsukishima burn his angry eyes into me
Because Tsukishima's house is a MANSION there were SO many bathrooms. It turned out that the room me and Tsukishima hid in wasn't even his parent's room, it was a SPARE room. I can't imagine how luxurious their room must be. The team all went into a bathroom or bedroom to change. I thought I was the first one to change as I walked back to the living room and it was quiet I was gonna celebrate until I walked into the living room and saw Suga and Tsukishima sitting on the couch. I slowly backed out of the living room and eavesdropped on the conversation
"Is it really better to be sad and not be Y/n's friend or be happy and be Y/n's friend? Your pride is just stopping you from being happy, is that really worth it?" Suga said and I eagerly waited for Tsukishima's answer
"No," he said as he sighed I wanted to hear more until someone said "boo" from behind me I screamed and turned around to see Kageyama
"Was that Y/n?" Tsukishima said as he ran out of the living room worriedly
"Uh... no," I said as I nervously laughed. Then Suga appeared behind Tsukishima
"Jesus Y/n, I thought you hurt yourself," Tsukishima said annoyed as he turned around and walked back into the living room
"I could have! I could have had a heart attack because of Kageyama" I said as I faced Kageyama madly, I kicked him in the shin and he grabbed it as he backed away from me while saying "ow"
"Were you eavesdropping Y/n?" Suga asked me and my eyes went wide
"Me? Never" I said as my nervous laughing continued. He looked at me sceptically until he walked back into the living room
"Kageyama, what the hell!" I said as Kageyama was on the ground by this point still holding his shin
"What do you mean? What the hell to YOU!" He said madly
"I mean... you DID give me a fright" I said and he looked from his shin to me moodily
"When do I not give you a fright?" He said as he tried to stand up
"Even more reason to kick you. Maybe you won't scare me anymore" I said as I shrugged and Kageyama hoped to the wall to lean against it
"Did I really hurt you? If your this hurt then you may not be able to play volleyball, you might have to take some time out on the benches," I told him as I faced him with worry but a smile was deep down
"No, no I'm okay!" he said panicking as he put his leg on the floor
"What a miraculous recovery," I said and Kageyama looked at me madly
"Yeah yeah," he said and I laughed a little as he limped into the living room
We set up all the sleeping bags and everyone eventually got settled into bed. After about an hour I was sure everyone was asleep, but I just couldn't sleep. The events of today were replaying over and over in my head. I decided that maybe getting fresh air would help me calm down so I slowly crept outside to the back garden. I was sitting on the porch steps admiring the full moon until someone appeared beside me
"We have to stop meeting like this," I said with a little giggle
"Trust me, we will," he said back "here you forgot to eat dinner," Tsukishima said as he passed me a plate with Chinese food on it
"Oh, when did the Chinese takeout come?" I asked confused as I looked at the plate of Chinese food on my lap
"When you went to the bathroom"
"That means Kageyama didn't get any food either," I said with a frown
"No, Kageyama ate food when we were playing hide and seek, I saw him sneak into the kitchen and when I went in after him there was food gone," Tsukishima said and I nodded my head as I ate my food. We were sitting in silence for a few seconds.
"Yknow... it's really hard being your friend" I said as I looked at Tsukishima and his golden eyes stared into me
"I know," he said with a straight face
"So then why do you make it so hard?" I asked him, I know I was being harsh, maybe even mean, but I just wanted to make sense of it all.
"I don't know... how else to be," he said nervously
"I like being your friend. I think you already know that. But I wonder if the things you say you mean, I know 99% of the time you don't but theirs also that 1%. I don't know if you remember but when you blew up at Yachi and I followed you to the roof I practically screamed at you about how much I cared about you and you didn't say you cared back" I said sadly and Tsukishima leaned back on his palms as he continued to stare at me
"I told you about my brother though. That was my way of saying how much I care about you. I find it hard to talk about how I feel but you always seem to know how I feel, except for when it comes to you. I don't like a lot of people but... I like you. But your-" he said quite nervous to finish his sentence
"But my insecurity blindsides that," I sighed, finishing it for him.
"You don't think that anyone could actually like you," he said and my eyes widened
"Wow ok, that's kinda deep," I said as I backed away from him
"You also run away from your feelings," he said and I looked down at my plate nervously
"It's just better to ignore them," I said as I shrugged
"It's ok to be sad and mad yknow. It's ok to feel 'negative' emotions" he said as he leaned forward
"It's ok to be happy as well," I said as I looked at him with a smile and he looked at me as he adjusted his glasses
"Let's make a deal," he said and I nodded my head, already agreeing without him saying what the deal was, but I think I knew. "I'll be more open about my 'positive emotions' and you be more open about your 'negative' emotions," he said and I sighed as I agreed
"Ok," I said as I out raised my pinky and we pinky promised
"Are we friends again?" he asked hopefully and a big smile crossed my face
"SO YOU ADMIT WE WERE FRIENDS BEFORE?" I asked excitedly and Tsukishima tried to hold in a laugh
"No," he said as crossed his arms and looked away
"Can you just say that we're best friends! Just once! I wont tell anyone," I said pleadingly and he rolled his eyes
"We aren't!" He said sternly
"PLEASE! I'll stop eating your strawberry shortcake," I said with a smile and Tsukishima groaned
"Fine! Y/n... you are maybe my best friend," he said and I giggled at his reluctance
"You are maybe my best friend too! But don't tell Oikawa or Yachi... actually, I think Kiyoko is Yachi's best friend, so just don't tell Oikawa," I said with my thinking face
"Well I'm glad I'm your best friend over that dickhead. Even though you DO have a friendship bracelet with him," he said as he looked at my bracelet madly
"We can get best friend bracelets if you want!" I said happily and he squinted his eyes at me annoyed
"Yeah- no," he said and I rolled my eyes
"We can get best friend bracelets when we go shopping for shortcake!" I said happily and he looked down at me with a little smile
"You still wanna go shopping for her?" He asked and I nodded my head. He looked away from me and faced the moon so I wouldn't see his smile
But I stared up at him anyway, smiling at his smile. It made me so happy that I made him smile because I never really see him smile. Then I remembered our argument today and I felt guilty "I'm really sorry," I said after a few seconds and he looked at me confused
"Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything" he said and I my face turned to confusion as well
"I've done so many things? I ran away instead of properly talking to you, I angered you more and I annoyed you" I said and Tsukishima chuckled as he shook his head
"You're such an over-thinker," he said and I squinted my eyes at him mad "I'm the one that's sorry. I've been a really bad friend today" he sighed
"Let's agree that the next time we fall out we wont be stubborn," I said and he nodded his head as he out raised his pinky I smiled at what he done
"You're becoming like me!" I said as I pinky promised him back
"No, I just have to make sure you're serious with a pinky promise," he said as he shrugged and I giggled
"Sureeee," I said as I put my empty plate down and he rolled his eyes
"Kiyoko said some really weird things today," Tsukishima said and I looked at him confused
"She was saying some weird stuff to me the other day. Doesn't it feel like everyone else knows something but us?"
"Yeah, you're right," he said as he looked up to the moon as he chewed on his bottom lip trying to piece things together
"Tonight I said to Kageyama 'the moon is beautiful, isn't it?'" I said as I looked at the moon sadly
"Seriously?" He said surprised as he looked at me with big shocked eyes and I nodded my head "do you... do you love him then?" He asked me
"I don't know, I don't really... believe in love but what I feel for Kageyama might be love," I said as I leaned back on my palms and Tsukishima done the same
"YOU don't believe in love," Tsukishima said even more surprised and I laughed
"Why is everyone so surprised?"
"You're so... naive that I thought for sure you would believe in love," he said and I looked at him madly
"I'm not naive," I said and he laughed "I mean... I want love to be real like so so bad but I think something as good as love just couldn't exist."
"Well I for one believe in love," Tsukishima said and I looked at HIM surprised
"You?" I said and he nodded his head "that's surprising"
"Well so many people talk about it all the time so they must be feeling something," he said as he shrugged
"Do you- do you love Yachi?" I asked as I swallowed the lump in my throat
"No," he said and I was RELIEVED, why did I feel so relieved? "Maybe I will one day though"
"I hope you do," I said looking away from him and yawning
"Cmon let's get back inside. You need to sleep" he said as he looked at me. Tsukishima stood up as I did, he started walking back inside but before he could go any further I hugged him from behind and he stopped in his place
"I know this is weird but... I just want to show you how much I didn't like not being your friend" I whispered and he stood still for a few minutes before turning around to hug me back
"I- I missed being your friend too" he whispered into my hair
"Yknow, I didn't tell Kageyama about the argument. All he knows is that we fell out and I didn't even tell him! He figured it out" I said and Tsukishima smiled into my hair
"I think everyone knows we have fallen out" he whispered back
"Because we are NOT good at hiding it," I said with a giggle
"No, I think they figured it out because we're usually always together but tonight we weren't," he said and I shrugged
"Probably. Yknow how you said that I should spend my time with Kageyama instead of you?" I asked and he nodded his head "I don't want to do that"
"Good," he said and I smiled
"Do you wanna know what Kageyama said to me after the whole moon thing?" I asked with a laugh and he sighed already knowing it was going to be bad from my laugh
"What did the idiot say?"
"He said 'I've seen better' I think that's possibly the worst response ever," I said while laughing hard and Tsukishima hugged me a little tighter as he continued to lean his head on mine
"It could have been worse. He could have realised what you actually meant and then he could've rejected you" he said and I shrugged. We were standing in silence just hugging each other feeling the chilly wind blow against us, I didn't feel cold since Tsukishima was so warm
"You're the only person I've ever hugged," he said and my eyes opened in surprised
"What? What about your mom or dad? Or Akiteru?" I said and he shrugged into the hug
"We're not a very touchy family," he said and I tried to pull away from the hug to look up at him but his grip tightened
"Well... I'm glad that I'm your first hug. Don't worry I'll give you all the hugs your family never did, in no time you'll be a pro hugger" I said and I could hear that his heart started beating faster.
That's strange
"I don't like hugs," he said
"You're such a liar," I said and he laughed a little
We hugged until Tsukishima pulled away from the hug. I bent down to pick up my plate and we sneaked back into the house, I almost dropped my plate on the ground but Tsukishima caught the plate before it could hit the floor
"Sorry" I whispered as he took the plate from me and tiptoed to the kitchen "that was so close," I said as I closed the kitchen door
"I can't believe you almost dropped the plate," Tsukishima said as he shook his head and started washing the plate
"It's dark! I couldn't see" I said as I crossed my arms and Tsukishima rolled his eyes
"Why did you come up to my room earlier?" Tsukishima asked me as he continued to wash the plate
"How do you- oh... Akiteru" I said and Tsukishima nodded his head I leaned on the counter next to Tsukishima who was still washing the plate
"I was coming to say sorry but Akiteru told me it wouldn't be a good idea," I said and Tsukishima looked at me confused
"What? Why wouldn't it be a good idea?" He said a little mad and I shrugged
"He said that you would be unprepared or something," I said and the clockworks went off in his brain as his face changed emotions
"Well yes, but still! We could have been friends all this time" he said as he shook his head and put the plate on the drying rack
"Well SOR-RAY," I said as I crossed my arms and Tsukishima walked to the kitchen door with me following behind him
"You should probably be glad you didn't come to my door then because when Yachi came to my door I answered it SHIRTLESS," he said as he didn't look at me
"NO WAY!" I said shocked as I held in a laugh "let me see what she saw" I said as I grabbed his arm and tried to get him to turn around so I could lift up his shirt
"Y/N, NO!" he said as he tried to push me away
"IM TRYNA HELP YOU," I said still tryna see under his shirt until he grabbed my wrists and made it unable for me to move by pinning me against the fridge
"This is so unfair!" I said annoyed as I tried to get out of his grasp
"I did tell you to stop," he said as he smirked down at me, enjoying seeing me struggle
"I'm tryna be a good friend," I said with an innocent smile and Tsukishima rolled his eyes
"No, you just wanna see my abs," he said and I rolled my eyes
"What abs?" I said with a little laugh and Tsukishima looked down at me madly
"Another way to try see my abs, Y/n?" He said and I rolled my eyes
"Don't get so full of yourself Kei" I said and he laughed a little as he let go of me and opened the kitchen door
We sneaked into the living room and faced each other in our sleeping bags, mouthing things to each other until we eventually both fell asleep.

Lol, this and the last chapter were originally one chapter but it was like 8000 words so I had to split it (FUTURE AUTHOR HERE IF YOU CANT HANDLE 8000 THEN THIS IS LIKE NOT GOOD FOR YOU, TRUST ME 😭 I GOT ONE WITH 10,000 so beware )
Anyway I'm just glad there all friends again and IM SO EXCITED TO WRITE THE NEW TSUKISHIMA this argument has really changed him 🤭 I'm also so sorry that this one fricking day has lasted for FIVE chapters please forgive me 🫶🏻 it must have been a real drag to read, since it must have been hard I wont even ask for a star 💛
