"So are you guys going to the bonfire" Jere asks me and Conrad
"yup" i reply
"m'kay oh and dinners ready" Jere says while stopping once he reaches my door
"okay we'll be down in a sec"
"k"
"yk that outfit is the second best" Conrad says referring to the outfit Shayla picked
"you realize there were only three outfits right" i say with an eye roll
"yeah so?" He says being completely oblivious
"so.. you didn't have many options" i say annoyed at his obliviousness
"okay fine lets go down now" he says rolling his eyes
"okay"
We both walk through the hallway and start going down the stairs until i trip but luckily enough Conrad grabs me before i, yk die:D
he has his hands around my waist keeping me steady and we make eye contact. But when we made that eye contact i felt something that i wouldn't expect to feel for my bestfriend.
"Are you okay?" Conrad said with a bit of concern
" uh yeah, I'm fine thanks for catching me "
" Oh yeah no problem "
we stare into each others eyes a little longer until he let's go of my waist. We then walk down the rest of the stairs to the dinning room. Me and Conrad sit next to each other at the end of the table belly's to the right of me and Conrad's to the left. Its always been like that with Conrad being on my left and me being on his right its just how it went for our entire lives.
"Steven i swear to god if you look at that phone one more time I'm putting it in the screen basket" laurel says in a warning tone
"its just we want to see your beautiful faces-can dinner be a screen-free zone? you know like the olden days" Susannah says
"steven" Jeremiah says imitating laurels warning tone and then grabs his phone and throws it on a chair
"Dude are you kidding me"
"Boom! nailed it" Jere says while flexing his bicep's
"Okay, okay, okay, we get it you've been working out"
"oh, your just jealous because Jere has a better body than you" belly says teasing steven
I snort then say "shes not wrong"
"Uh, no, its actually all about the lean look now. Otherwise you cant wear tailored suits" steven says trying to get his point through
"Tailored suits" Conrad repeats him
"steven tell me why you would need tailored suits in the first place" i ask him
"reasons" he says while looking at his plate
"that reason being Shayla" i say with a smirk
"wait what" he says as his head shoots up with wide eyes
"Shayla isn't she your friend" says laurel
"yup stevey boy over here just doesn't want to admit his obvious crush" i say teasing him
"okay, okay, shut up" he says wanting to end the conversation
we all laugh.
"so what have you been up to y/n" Susannah asks me
"uh nothing much" There is so much
"Nothing much?! You call beating up a shit ton of people "Nothing much"" steven says. Steven there is a reason why i said "nothing much" you idiot
"wait no way" Jere says not believing what steven said
"yes way, you know Garret right" steven says
"the football jock at your school?" Jere replies
"yeah, so him and y/n started dating but then after 5 months y/n found him cheating on her with her friend" steven says with suspense
"Holy shit" Jere says with wide eyes
i could feel Conrad's eyes burning into the side of my head.
"Yeah but then Y/n beats the shit out of him giving him a broken nose lots of bruises and she took the respect people had for him. and the best part is that y/n exposed him Infront of the entire school and then they started fighting and y/n won. i have the video" steven says with enthusiasm
"That is AWSOME" Jere said while laughing slightly
"Yeah and get this she protested against the school for not allowing football to be a sport women can play too, lets just say the protesting ended well because she ended up becoming captain of the football team"
"WHAT" Jere said obviously exited to here the rest
"Omg y/n that's amazing" Susannah says in a surprised tone
"thanks" i say avoiding Conrad's gaze
"and even better ever since she became captain the team has won every single game up until championships where they also won, oh and also she became captain of the volleyball team and led them to championships as well"
steven took a pause and said "Y/n is literally a legend"
at that point everyone was staring at me with awe. laurel didn't know about the fights i got into so it was quite surprising for her, steven and belly had a smile on their face because most of the fights i got into were because of them.
"Anyways, conrad when are you leaving for training camp"
"Uh, he quit football" jere says while looking down at his plate.
I knew he played football for his dad but he never mentioned anything about quiting. I look at him and he avoids my stare, how the tables have turned am i right.
"Wait really? You quit" steven says in disbelief
"Mhm" conrad hums
"Are you kidding me man? Id-id kill to play college ball"
"He can always change his mind" Susannah speaks up
"Im not gonna change my mind. I was just gonna sit on the bench all season anyways" after that there was and awkward silence.
"Well if your not gonna play football anymore, what are you going to do all summer? "
"Oh dude you can work at the club, with me Jere and y/n " steven says
"I'm not going to work at the club"
"Wait you guys are working this summer" belly pipes up
"Uh yeah, me and y/n are lifeguarding, and stevens working at the snack shop" Jere says while fist bumping steven
"Oh belly, y/n i almost forgot i have a surprise for you" Susannah gets up and grabs two letters and gives it to me and belly
"So this is why you stopped at the country club" laurel says
"Mm" Susannah hums
"What, uh wh-wh-what is that" steven says
"I wrangled y/n and belly an invitation to be a debutante"
"Is that the thing where girls wear white dresses and curtsy"
"Yup pretty much" i say looking at the invitation
"No, its when a girl comes of age and is presented to society"
"How come me and y/n are coming of age at different ages" belly says
"Well y/n didn't want to go when she was 16 since she wasn't ready and last year she couldn't go since you guys were going on tours for college"
"Correction i didn't want to go cause it was boring, also dresses aren't really my thing, and its pretty archaic"
"I agree with y/n" laurel says while getting up to get wine
"No it used to be about finding a husband. But now its about networking. They teach you leadership skills, like how to market yourself. And it benefits charity, its um, like a bat mitzvah"
"It is not like a bat mitzvah, there is nothing religious about a debutante ball" laurel says whilst laughing
"The whole deb scene is bullshit... its for sheep" Conrad speaks up, okay hes not wrong but right now we are kinda avoiding each other so I'm not gonna agree....out loud at least
"No, its not" Susannah says
"its when a girl has a coming out, its a formal recognition shes reached maturity"
steven chuckles "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, mature-belly? I mean Y/n I get but belly?"
"Mhm" Susannah hums
"A-a couple of months ago you had a cat funeral. you made us all wear black" steven says while looking at belly
"Shut up steven. We saw you crying in your room" she says
"Shes right i heard your sobs all the way from my room. So before you say belly isn't mature you keep in mind you aren't mature either." i say standing up for belly knowing steven will shut up after that.
"Wait, mochi died? Dang sorry bells" Jere says to belly since her and mochi were pretty close
"Girls, don't you wanna get all dress up" Susannah says looking at me and belly
"its just not belly's kind of thing shes our little feral ally cat, and y/n already stated her reasons." Laurel says
i didn't want to break Susannah's heart and say no since shes been wanting me to go ever since i was 12.
"Ill think about it" me and belly say in unison
"they'll think about it" Susannah says victoriously
i could tell that Conrad was staring at me confused. i decided that i needed to clear my head
"um I'm gonna go for a walk, thanks for dinner and thank you Susannah for the invitation to the deb ball thing" i say wanting to get out of the situation.
i grabbed my jacket and put on my shoes and went outside walking towards the beach. Ever since i was little i felt a close connection with the beach it was the one place i could just escape reality and just be at peace with myself. i sit down on the sand looking off into the distance just tuning out everything else. Until i felt someone sit next to me knowing it was Conrad i just didn't acknowledge him.
"Why didn't you tell me" Conrad says breaking the silence i couldn't help but notice how hurt he sounded
"i should be asking you the same thing" i say looking at him
"Well i asked you first"
"I dunno it just didn't pop up i guess" i sigh looking at the ocean
"what do you mean "it didn't pop up", some important shit happened and you didn't tell me" Conrad says raising his voice a little
i look at him "i know, i know, i just didn't want to talk about it especially since laurel didn't know about the whole me beating my ex's ass situation" "i was gonna tell you but steven kinda beat me to it"
"oh," he says sounding relieved "i thought you didn't trust me"
i chuckle "and why wouldn't i trust you Conrad Fisher my bestest friend of 18 years"
he smiles at me, god that smile wait what am i saying snap out of it, i smile back at him.
"Why didn't you tell me you quit football"
"I didn't really want to talk about it and plus you knew i was gonna quit some day"
I nod as a response.
"But its not like i didn't tell you because i didn't trust you i just wasn't ready i guess"
"Ah don't sweat it" we stare at each other for a sec
"Um, should get going im pretty sure the others are ready to go to the bonfire"he says breaking his gaze away from me
"uh yeah, yeah"i say while getting up
i stick out my hand for him to grab, and he gladly takes it. we start walking back to the house, while walking back he asked me questions about the fights i was in and such since he found it intriguing that i beat up quite the amount of people.
When we went in i automatically looked into the kitchen seeing that Susannah and Laurel were getting the brownies ready for the movie night with belly. I'd be lying if i said i wasn't jealous of her, i mean yeah shes like a sister to me but shes always had a closer connection with the moms, before belly was born or before all this they would never have these mini traditions for me including the movie nights but after belly was born that all changed. They're the closet thing i have to a mom but i never could recall having a bonding experience with them that made me think that they were actually my moms. Sure laurel was there through everything but she barely knows shit about me heck i don't think she even knows my favorite color. Susannah however I'm way closer to she knows practically everything about me, and we would have mini girl talks where she'd be my bestfriend. But in this case i turned to the boys they would always include me and tell me about their secrets since they trusted me with them, i knew more about the boys than anyone so whenever someone needed to know something about them they'd go to me.
Once i snapped back to reality, i went upstairs to put makeup on for the bonfire and Conrad just sat on my bed looking at his phone.

A/N- The amount of times i revised this story is crazy. Also for a little more detail on y/n becoming the football captain she writes out the game plans but doesnt usually go in the games shes more of a coach but she does sometimes go in the games so yeah.
