"Minagawa! Are you lookin' for a fight?!" Wakamatsu shouted
"I just call it as I see it" Minagawa stated in a nonchalant way
"What?!" Wakamatsu said in anger. He went closer to Wakamatsu and then held him on his collar "You're always like this! Why not think about other people's feelings for once?!"
"You mean you have feelings too?" Minagawa teased
"Why, you..." Wakamatsu's blood proceeds to boil
"Now, now, that's enough!" Mrs. Minagawa walked in, breaking the oncoming fight "How about something to work off that alcohol?"
"Say, Katsuhiko..." Yoshimi approached Minagawa with a chocolate
"What?! You gonna lecture me too?!" he snapped
"I would never" -Yoshimi
"Now then, let's all have dessert!" Mrs. Minagawa said, taking out the pieces of cakes
"Ah, here it is! Mrs. Minagawa's homemade cakes!" Wakamatsu cheered
"I hope you like them..." she smiled
"Of course, I will! Thank you!" he started eating his portion. Everyone started eating the cake with a cup of coffee
"Mrs. Minagawa" Kana pulled on her clothes to catch her attention "Do you think if I give someone a cake they will love it?"
"Is that 'someone' a boy? Of course, they will love it" she smiled at Kana with a teasing tone
"Ah!" she became flustered and then ran back to her seat beside Conan
"Onee-chan, say, is that cake good?" Susumu asked Ran
"Both the cake and the coffee are great!" hearing those words come out of Ran's mouth, Susumu decided to try the coffee
"Bitter" Susumu complained
"Don't drink her coffee!" Mrs. Minagawa stated "Here! Have some cake!"
"Katsuhiko. Aren't you going to eat your cake?" -Yoshimi
"No. I hate sweets" -Minagawa
"Don't you think maybe you're smoking too much? You should try to cut back a little" -Yoshimi
"Get off my case and quit annoyin' me!" a sudden headache came over him "Looks like I got a little drunk" he stood up, "I think I'll go get some fresh air" he went outside and Yoshimi followed him
"Yoshimi likes him after all... What does she see in him, I wonder?" Wakamatsu stated, "Which reminds me, do you have any chocolate for me, Ran-san?" Wakamatsu asked Ran but they suddenly heard a loud scream
Yoshimi Ran back near the glass sliding door "It's Katsuhiko! He's..." Yoshimi screamed, pointing at the dead Katsuhiko
Mrs. Minagawa is the first person to run outside after hearing the news. She knelt down and shook him while saying his name. "Call for the police and an ambulance!" Conan instructed Ran. His hand found its way towards Kana's hand and then looked at her. They looked at each other and then squeezed each other's hands.
'I should have known that this isn't going to be a normal Valentine's Day' Kana sweatdropped while looking at the dead man
She stepped toward the man to examine the body, unknowingly letting go of Conan's hand. Conan detected this and then immediately grabbed your hand again and then squeezed it, a sign that he did not want Kana to let go. Kana slightly reddened but instantly regained her senses.
~Time skip~
Police finally arrived and are doing their work. "Katsuhiko-san passed away earlier. The cause appears to be agricultural chemicals used as food poison" Inspector Megure stated "Yoshimi Watanabe-san, he collapsed shortly after eating your chocolate, did he not?" he interrogated
"Yes" she answered with a small voice
"It goes without saying that this case is an easy one," Kogoro said behind the Inspector
"What are you doing here?!" Inspector Megure shouted at him
"Having received word from my daughter, I, the great detective Kogoro Mouri, hastened to the scene!" he saluted "You did it!" he pointed at the silent, now shocked Yoshimi "You poisoned the chocolate in order to kill the victim! Romantic issues were your motive! All we have to do is check the rest of your chocolate to prove it!"
"No! It wasn't me!" Yoshimi cried
"Everything's too convenient for it to have been her. Everyone has eaten the exact same things as the victim. Even if the sushi was poisoned, it would be impossible to tell which ones the victim would eat. Everyone drank coffee that came from the same pot" Conan muttered to Kana
"Which means it was the cake?" Kana questioned "No, the victim didn't eat it! What does it all mean?" they fell into a deep thought
After seeing the cigarette that Naomichi is using, Conan had an idea "That's it!" he exclaimed and then ran towards Inspector Megure and Kogoro "Mister! Come to think of it, there was a cigarette butt at the crime scene, wasn't there?"
"A cigarette?" Inspector Megure tried to remember "That's right! That's a possibility too!" he went and grabbed the cigarette that is already placed inside a ziplock bag. "So this is the cigarette butt discovered at the scene of the crime"
"Yes, there are ways to poison cigarettes..." -Kogoro
"I saw it! When Minagawa-san went outside, Naomichi-san gave him his cigarettes!" -Sonoko
"N-Naomichi! How could you?!" Wakamatsu stuttered
"We can always find out if we examine the cigarette butt, you know!" -Inspector Megure
"It's true! I did it! I've hated him for a long time! That damn Katsuhiko was always making a fool of me! He even hurt Kaori! So I put poison in the cigarette filter!" -Naomichi
"The filter?" Kana stated in confusion "No! He didn't do it!" Kana muttered to Conan
"Mommy! My tooth hurts!" Susumu cried to his mother who is washing the cups used earlier. Conan and Kana averted their gazes toward the two and notice what Mrs. Minagawa is doing
"She's washing the coffee cups. At a time like this?" Kana questioned
"That's it!" they quietly exclaimed
They ran toward Kogoro and Inspector Megure to say something "Inspector Megure, we finally solved the case and we want Kogoro-san to lip-sync what we are saying"
"I can do that. But how are you going to change your voice?" -Kogoro
"Professor Agase gave us some gadgets to change our voices" -Conan
"It's final then. Let's do this!" -Inspector Megure
"Naomichi-san isn't the murderer" -Conan
"What are you talking about? He confessed to it, you know" -Wakamatsu
"He indeed plan to murder the victim, but he failed. Have a look at the cigarette butt. All of the victim's other cigarettes in the house were unfiltered. After receiving the cigarettes from Naomichi, the victim removed the filter before lighting one up. In other words, he didn't smoke the part that had the poison in it" -Conan
"Then who did it, Dad?!" -Ran
"The real murderer was...you, Katsuhiko-Kun's mother!" -Conan
"What are you talking about?!" said the shocked Mrs. Minagawa "How in the world could I have done it?!"
"By poisoning the food"
"Everyone ate the same food!" she reasoned
"Yes. But only Katsuhiko-kun died. He died because he didn't eat"
"What do you mean, he didn't eat?" -Ran
"Mrs. Minagawa. I hear you were nearly red with anger when Susumu ate some chocolate. Yet you let him have some cake! Why was that?" Kana asked in a voice changer but never allow Mrs. Minagawa to answer "It was because you put poison in the coffee and the antidote in the cake! Seeing Susumu-kun drink the poisoned coffee, you rushed to give him some of the cake and the antidote. You knew that Katsuhiko-kun probably wouldn't eat the cake since he hated sweets. Then, upon devising this plan, you decided to use the fact that Yoshimi-san loved him to your advantage! You knew without question that he would eat her chocolate. Being the very first person on the scene, you took the chocolate he partially ate and replaced it with poisoned chocolate! All while trying to make Yoshimi-san look guilty, of course," Kana finished
"Pure fiction! There's no proof!" Mrs. Minagawa retaliated
"But there is. In the coffee cups. Before the police came, you washed the coffee cups as quickly as possible. No matter how much you washed them, a detailed examination will still find the poison! Even if there isn't any left in the cups, there will still be some in the drain pipes" -Conan
"Mrs. Minagawa, It appears it's starting to melt. Yoshimi-san's real chocolate bar, which you hid in your kimono, that is" Kana stated when she saw the chocolate stain slowly appearing
"Nonsense! How would I know that he would eat Yoshimi's chocolate?! Why would I kill my own son?!" Mrs. Minagawa exclaimed
"No! Katsuhiko's real parents died 7 years ago in an accident! Then you, his father's sister, took him in!" Kaori corrected her "Katsuhiko liked Yoshimi because she looked like his real mother. That's how you knew that he would eat her chocolate!"
When Mrs. Minagawa knew that she was busted, she hugged her son, Susumu "I'm so sorry, Yoshimi-san" she cried "I just happened to see you buying chocolate one day and then the idea suddenly came to me! I had no other choice! We desperately needed Katsuhiko's inheritance because my husband's business went under! I wanted to protect this house and Susumu's happiness!" she sobbed harder
She got arrested, Conan and Kana secretly got thanks, and Ran asked them if they want to go to a nearby park.
"A lot sure happened today... What should I do with this chocolate now?" Ran pondered
While Ran is thinking, Wakamatsu suddenly appeared to make a move on Ran again. Kana gave her chocolate to Conan without saying anything and he accepted it with a slight blush on his face. He unwrapped the chocolate and ate it immediately.
They gazed at the setting sun with an unspoken confession lingering in the air. But they know that those little actions mean something bigger. They just don't know how to say it yet.
