Kanae Kocho, Age 14
Me and my family Always lived a peaceful life, Me and my sister, Shinobu, were privileged to live in a Family with Wealthy and Loving Parents who continuously doted on and cared for us both with Me and my Sister wanting for nothing and were truly content with the simple life we were living.. But like everything, some things must always come to an end.. and our Simple Life came crashing down when someone or something broke into our home while me and My Sister were about to sleep
I watched as the man.. no, it wasn't a man, it couldn't be one, the man or thing that broke into our home was not Human at all. Me and my Sister could only watch as our parents were brutally killed and.. devoured right in front of us, I watched as that thing ate my father right in front of me and Shinobu
The Thing slowly turned around to look at us, as I saw this I quickly pulled my sister close to protect her.. but then I suddenly hear someone enter the room that me and my sister were in.. and I saw that it was a Boy who looked like he was at the same age as me
This boy had a Black, long and spiky hair with red tips that was kept in a ponytail and on his forehead was a strange mark, this man only wore a Black Jacket with Baggy pants that extended into his socks, all under his Red Haori
I then noticed the sword that was on the left side of his waist
The Thing then opened it mouth to say a few words "..More.. Food..!" The Thing laughed and lunged at him
But then in just a blink of an eye, the thing's head was swiftly cut and it's head landed on the ground with a thud and rolled past the Boy with the Red Haori, I stared at this boy in amazement, someone this young was able to kill it so easily..
The Boy then turned to look at us both "Are you okay?" The boy asked
I snapped out of my amazed state and answer "Y -Yes.. we're.. fine.."
???: "I see.." He turned to my Father's body "..Was this man.. a relative of yours?"
I nodded
???: "I see, may I ask what your names are?"
Kanae: "Kanae, Kanae Kocho and this is my sister.. Shinobu Kocho.."
???: "I'm Y/N, Y/N Kamado.." The Boy now named Y/N said and Sheathe is blade
Kanae: "U-Um..! Kamado..!"
Y/N: "Hm?"
Kanae: "..What was it..? That thing that attacked us?"
Y/N: "It was a demon." He replied, bluntly
My eyes widened, Demon... I had heard stories about the existence of demons, but when I first heard it I always shook it off as another horror story or myth.. but it was no myth.. Demons were real and it had.. eaten both of our parents
I snap out of my shocked state and looked at Y/N "What happens now?"
Y/N: "I'm not so sure but.." He reaches into his belt and pulled out a pouch, he then extended his arm out to me
Kanae: "What is this?" I slowly took the small pouch and opened it
Y/N: "It's what you call a Wisteria flower, wisteria flowers keep Demons away.."
As I looked at the flower I soon hear another footstep, I look up and see a Tall, Hulking figure with spiky black hair and a prominent scar running horizontally across the Man's forehead.
???: "Kamado, did you find the demon?"
Y/N nodded "I did and I managed to kill it but.. I couldn't arrive in time and ended up killing the parents of these two." He said
???: "I see.." He looked at us two now "I send my prayers to your parents, May they rest in Peace."
Kanae: "I-It's okay.."
Y/N: "Now then, I hope you two are able to move on for your lost, please take care now."
He and the Muscular man turned and then a Crow Landed on Y/N's shoulder
Crow: "Caw! The Kakushi is here! Caw!"
Y/N: "I see.."
Kakushi? Who or What were they?
Soon a bunch of footsteps were heard and a group of people who wore Black and White Masks, wearing the same clothing ran inside
Y/N: "Please make sure to bury the bodies of their parents.."
The Kakushi nodded "Yes, of course!" The Kakushi then ran past him
Kanae: "Wh-Who are they?"
Y/N: "Kakushi.. they're responsible for cleaning up areas after a large battle or usually to serve Aid if any civilian was caught up and hurt.."
Kanae: "I see.."
Y/N: "Now then.. Please take care of yourselves and I hope that you both can move on from this lost of yours."
Soon, The two disappeared from our sight...

Y/N Kamado
It has been Half a month after meeting the Kocho Sisters, when I first saw them the two girls had been curled up in a corner and just watched as their parents had been killed right in front of them. I did feel bad and I also felt guilty that I had arrived too late..
But then an Unexpected event happened and I soon found myself standing outside my estate with the two sisters.. standing right in front of my Gate
Kanae: "This is Y/N Kamado's house, right?"
Y/N: "...."
I originally thought that I would never see the 2 girls who were safely sent to their relatives' home ever again... But to be Honest, I never really expected this, of course since I thought these two girls would try to move on.. maybe seek help from their other relatives. Furthermore it has been half a month since our meeting, why were they looking for me now? Why couldn't they just go and meet Himejima?
Kanae: "Excuse us for taking the liberty of inviting ourselves here." The elder sister bowed "In case if you have forgotten us, I am Kanae Kocho and this is my Sister Shinobu Kocho
As I watched the Elder Sister bow I could also feel the younger one also lower her head stiffly
Y/N: "N-No, I haven't forgotten you both yet, but, how did you both know where I stay?"
Kanae: "A Member of the Kakushi told us. Mr. Kamado, you lent a helping hand and defeated the foul demon, yet we did not offer our thanks properly and I'm deeply apologetic about that. You have my utmost gratitude for saving us, especially my younger Sister."
The Elder sister's tone was gentle and her voice was extremely sweet and beautiful yet it was crystal clear
Shinobu: "Thank you for saving my older sister." After Kanae spoke, Shinobu followed suite and gave her thanks
Kanae: "The funeral rites for our father and mother have been settled and there was almost no damage to their bodies so they have been laid to rest properly... All of this is thanks to you, Mr. Kamado. We really thank you very much.."
Y/N: "They came here to say this..?" I thought, I then clear my throat "It was nothing, it was my job as a Slayer after all.."
Kanae: "Yes, the Kakushi told us about the Demon Slayers as well.." She spoke in a nervous tone and turned to her Younger Sister
The Younger Sister looked back at her and both nodded their heads at each other
Kanae: "Actually.. we came here because we have a request.."
Shinobu: "Please teach us how to slay demons..!" The Younger sister cut her off
Kanae: "Please teach us how to cut off a Demon's head." The Oldest Sister spoke with a determined tone
I looked at the two, utterly shocked.. but there was a difference in their determination, The Older Sister, Kanae, was determined by her grief and sadness, the Younger Sister, Shinobu, was full of fury and hate
If the Demon hadn't attacked... The Younger sister would have lived a peaceful life, surrounded by the love of her Older Sister and parents, but.. Demon's exist in this world and as long as Demon's existed the Peaceful lives of Families would soon be ruined, and I.. didn't want that, after all that was the promise I made to myself, that was the reason why I decided to join the Demon Slayer Corps in the first place, to prevent the peaceful lives of humans being ruined by the hands of the demons
..
Later, I walked out of my estate with an axe over my shoulder, preparing to chop some wood for my fireplace but....
Shinobu was there
Y/N: "...Seriously, you're still here?" I stared at her deadpanned
Shinobu: "Of course! You still haven't agreed to teach us on how to slay demons..!" She said, angrily
Then.. Crack, right after she said that, there was a sharp sound of wood being split open
Shinobu: "I'll take care of chopping wood, Big Sister can take care of laundry and cleaning. If it's alright, we were thinking of also washing that kimono of yours, remember to change out of it later."
I stared at her, visibly confused "I don't remember asking the two of you to do these things.." I sighed "..Return home before it get's too dark, I'm sure your relatives are worried.."
Shinobu: "..We're already homeless.." She said, stubbornly "We lost everything and we abandoned all that we had left so we already have nothing to cling on to. I only have Big Sister.."
After she finished speaking, she continued to chop wood. This time, the sound was not as clean. The axe that I had usually used was pretty big.. why did I use a big axe? Because, it makes it easy to chop wood and I have used axes that were heavier than me before I became a slayer..
I sigh "Hand me the axe.." I gripped it and took it from her quite easily
As I looked and observed Shinobu, I noticed how small and petite she was than other girls her age, sure she was only a little smaller than me and I was probably at the same height as her sister and probably the same age
Y/N: "Aim for the block of wood this way and go straight down." I then swung my axe down and soon the wood was instantly chopped
Shinobu: "Woah.. how did you do that, Mr. Kamado?"
Y/N: "...You don't have to call me 'Mister', I'm only 14.."
A Moment of silence passed and Shinobu placed a finger on her chin, probably thinking of what to call me "Kamado then.."
Shinobu then pointed a finger at my forehead "Did you get that wound from a demon?" she asked
I sighed "No.. it's a birthmark.."
Shinobu: "Really? it looks like a wound.."
Y/N: "You should just go home, as I said your relatives must be worried sick.."
After I said that, Shinobu's mood seemed to change
Y/N: "The two of you would not be able to kill demons.."
Shinobu: "What? Aren't there women in the Corps? The Kakushi person said so, so don't think that you can lie to me."
Y/N: "Yes, there are women in the corps.. it's just that it's members are far less than the Male ones since most aren't able to pass the final selection.."
Shinobu: "What's a final selection? Is it like a test? Don't worry, Big sis and I have good brains."
I stared at her deadpanned "..Yes the final selection is indeed a test, but instead of using pencils and paper, you use swords."
Shinobu: "Even so, Big Sis and I can use our brains..!" She exclaimed, ignoring my statement
Y/N: "Even though it's difficult now, you'll forget all these sooner or later. Just be a normal girl and live a happy life. Find the man you like, have a family of your own and live till you have a face full of wrinkles--"
Shinobu: "How can I possibly forget!!??" She cut me off as she shouted at me, raising her voice
Her voice was so loud to the point that birds flew out of their nests
Shinobu: "I saw my parents killed before my eyes, you know?! Living a normal life is happiness?! Lying to myself and pretending to forget all this is happiness?! I don't want that kind of happiness!! What difference is it from being dead?!"
Y/N: "Slaying demons involves taking the road of blood, it isn't simple and wouldn't your parents wish to let you both live a good life?"
Shinobu: "At this point, no one knows what my father and mother wish for...!" She shouted, after that she added again "What about you Kamado, can you do it? After the important people in your lives get killed, are you able to live on as though nothing had happened? Why did you join the Demon Slayer Corps? Why did you become a Demon Slayer?!"
After saying those words while gritting her teeth, Shinobu ran away from the direction towards the estate
I looked at Shinobu's retreating figure and sighed
Kanae: "Don't worry.. she'll be back soon.."
I turn around and saw Kanae, she probably got worried and set out to look for her
Kanae: "Please forgive my younger sister for her rudeness. Actually that child also understands that you're really concerned for our safety... But she still can't accept that emotionally... after all, that child liked attention since she was young. She loved our father and mother the most."
Y/N: "To become a slayer, you need to train hard.. but no matter how much you perfect your sword skills, it might all become useless at some point, that is why most Slayers train their body to their limits.. so that they could at least survive a punch from a demon.."
Kanae: "I see.."
Y/N: "You're tall, so it looks like you're fine but if your younger sister becomes a Slayer, she might not be able to decapitate one.. although, I won't judge her just yet since after all she's still too young and maybe if she did some physical training, maybe she'll be strong enough to decapitate one.."
Kanae: "...."
Y/N: "..But, do you know what happens to Slayers who can't kill a demon?"
A Moment of silence passed as Kanae had her head lowered but then her head rose and she spoke
Kanae: "My father always said: If there is someone who was unable to shoulder their burdens, then bear half of it for them; If someone is troubled, think with him; If someone is enveloped by grief, then empathise with them.."
I looked at her for a few moments, although.. I would be lying if I said I wasn't touched. The Parents of these two seemed like good people, hardworking and honest, parents who adored and loved their daughters so much, a perfect family.. but their parents were brutally killed right in front of them
Kanae: "I want to save everyone. Whether they are humans-or demons..."
As I heard her spoke, she seemed.. sincere about her words, she was determined, but I had a feeling of doubt behind her words
Y/N: "You want to save demons too?"
Kanae: "The Kakushi person said that Demons used to be Humans, just like us. What pitiful creatures. They are human yet they eat other humans and they fear the beautiful sun rise. As long as I defeat one demon, people who could have been harmed would be saved and that demon can also escape that miserable life."
Y/N: "In other words... you want to save the demons that slaughtered your parents?"
Kanae: "Yes."
As I looked at her one thought came into my mind
"This girl is just... too kind.."
When I joined the Demon Slayer Corps, I made a promise to myself that I'd prevent any more lives from being ruined...
I didn't have a serious grudge against Demons, if anything I had felt some sympathy on some of the Demons I killed.. but some Demons, who would just kill and eat humans for fun, treating them like some kind of trophy were the types of Demons I hated, whenever I encountered a demon like that.. I wanted to kill them so badly, I hated demons like that so much to the point where I didn't like hearing them speak, I hated those types so much to the point where I wish they were would never be born again in this world
Kanae: "I want to protect the futures of others that have yet to be destroyed, just as you would give your all for our sake... just as how you protected Shinobu, I wish to protect someone who is precious to another. I wish to be able to put an end to this chain of tragic events."
Y/N: "And you aren't afraid that you or your sister might die?"
Kanae immediately fell silent
I knew I had asked her a difficult question but, I doubt she'd let her sister walk down the road towards death
Kanae: "We already made up our minds.." She said, shakily "Shinobu and I promised each other that We definitely will not allow others to meet the same fate as us."
I looked at Kanae for a few seconds, surprised. I turn around, showing my back to her and smiled slightly
She and her sister had the same goal and the same reason of why I had decided to join the Slayer Corps in the first place

...
Later, Shinobu had come back and entered my estate, placing a bunch of vegetables and mushrooms on the table and pushed them
Shinobu: "I wanted to say that dinner is settled, aren't I nice?"
As expected, the two sisters have not returned home even when night fell. During this time, I really hoped that my crow came by to deliver a mission to me but sadly.. no mission was assigned to me
When the sun set, the temperature of the area fell as well. Just as I was adding the firewood chopped by me and Shinobu into the hearth, the fragrance of Miso and rice was transmitted over amidst the heat of the burning wood.
Kanae: "Mr. Kamado, Dinner is ready.."
Y/N: "You don't have to call me 'Mister', I'm only 14, you can just call me Y/N.."
Kanae: "O-Okay.. Dinner is ready, Y/N and also we took the liberty of using the rice, miso and other things in this house.." She said, seeming rather embarrassed
I sigh and soon I sat down with the two siblings around the Hearth. The sisters had made cold mixed mountain vegetables, grilled trout, miso soup with mushrooms and rice balls.
I looked at the food and sighed since it had been a while since I've eaten with other people
I then took a taste of the soup that was made by the Sisters
Y/N: "It's good.."
Kanae: "Shinobu cooked that.." She said happily then added on "..Shinobu is really good with her hands, from before, she always gathered all kinds of plants from our courtyard and imitated pharmacists and made medicines and she really managed to make a medicine."
Shinobu: "Well, Big Sister is better in all other matters." She said, somewhat roughly but judging by her tone she seemed shy and it was not that she was really angry
Shinobu: "Big Sister is our town's top beauty. She can play the koto, do flower arrangement, make tea, there's nothing she doesn't know, the men in the town are smitten about Big Sis."
Kanae: "Okay, that's enough Shinobu."
Shinobu: "Well, if Kamado paid enough attention to you, he'd definitely fall for you, I'm surprised he hasn't yet actually or maybe he already did but is just good at hiding it.."
Kanae: "Alright, Shinobu.."
Shinobu: "But, what I'm saying is true."
Kanae: "Seriously, Shinobu... Mr Kama-- I mean Y/N, is there any kind of dishes you prefer?"
Shinobu: "Fried egg? Braised vegetables? Or Tempura? Big Sis and I can make those for you tomorrow."
I sighed and allowed the two sisters to speak, to be honest the food that was cooked by the two was unexpectedly gentle even the air in the room became light and clear, it did remind me of the times when me and my parents used to do this before I left to become a Demon Slayer

Later at night, While I slept, I was woken up by the sound of Shinobu screaming
Shinobu: "Father!! Mother!!"
Kanae: "Shinobu... It's alright, It's fine already.."
Shinobu: "Noooooo--! The Demons..!! The Demon.. Father and mother were..!"
For probably an hour, I kept on hearing the sound of Shinobu sobbing and screaming and Kanae saying her Younger Sister's name to calm her down

...
The Next day, Shinobu was back to her normal self and the two sisters had made breakfast for me.. again
The two sisters seemed to be still adamant about not going home and this went on for three days, and as it went on I asked myself on how I was still able to keep my cool
But then on the Fourth Day, I brought the Sisters out of the Estate and towards a field behind it
On the Field was a basket full of Training Swords, Training dummies, Gourds, and a Huge Boulder
Y/N: "If you complete this test.. i'll ask an acquaintance of mine to introduce you both to a 'Cultivator' who trains Demon Slayers.."
Shinobu: "Really?"
Kanae: "May I ask what a Cultivator is?"
Y/N: "Exactly what the term means, they are people who cultivate swordsmen. There are a few 'Cultivators' and they live in various places. They use their own methods to train swordsmen. Most of them were originally skilled slayers but were forced to retire due to various reasons so they put in their utmost effort to cultivate successors. As long as you train under a cultivator and survive the 'Final Selection' at 'Mt Fujikasane', you can officially receive the position of a Demon Slayer in the Demon Slayer Corps."
Shinobu: "Eh? Won't you be teaching us?" She asked with some displeasure in her voice
I sighed "I don't really have time to teach others, I have my own missions to deal with and I also have to train myself."
Kanae: "You're the strongest Hashira and yet you still need to train?"
Y/N: "Huh? Who said I was the strongest?"
Shinobu: "Himejima and that Kakushi said that you were the strongest Hashira.." She said
Y/N: "You guys met Himejima?"
Kanae nodded "Yes, on our way here we also asked the Kakushi to bring us to Himejima so that we could Thank him also.. even though he arrived late, we decided to Thank him still, then after that we went to you.."
Y/N: "I see.."
Kanae: "When we successfully pass this test, please refer us to a cultivator.."
Y/N: "You both will have to follow different cultivators.."
Kanae/Shinobu: "Eh..?"
I could suddenly feel the uneasiness and fear from these two girls, especially from Shinobu but she quickly regained herself
Shinobu: "Sister.." She looked at Kanae with worried eyes
Kanae: "It's fine.." She looked at Shinobu in the eyes with clear determination "We will survive the 'Final Selection' and meet again.."
Suddenly a crow came and flew above the estate
I looked up and noticed it was my crow... with a letter on it's Feet
Y/N: "A Letter..?" I thought and my crow hovered in front of me, I extend my hand and grab the letter
I opened the letter and I began to read it... after I read the letter, my eyes widened a bit
Kanae: "Is there.. something wrong?"
I quickly regain my composure "No.. I-It's nothing.." I clear my throat
Kanae: "I- I see.."
I sigh and walk over to the boulder "If you both move this boulder... I will acknowledge the two of you and introduce you both to a cultivator.."
A Moment of silence passed as the two sisters were visibly shocked by this
Shinobu: "Have you lost your mind? How is this possible? Can someone even do this?!"
Y/N: "Himejima was able to lift an entire boulder his size and also.. I was able to pull this boulder across the entire field."
Shinobu: "Himejima doesn't count! He's big as a bear!"
Y/N: "Do you really think that you'll be excused just because you can't do this?"
Shinobu: "Wh- What?"
Y/N: "If you can't do this, someone will die, someone who needs to be protected will be killed. In this kind of situation, can you still say such fake excuses?"
Shinobu lowered her head
Y/N: "This has nothing to do whether you can or can't do it, because even though you can't do it you'll force yourself to. If you reach the limit of your strength then go beyond it and no matter you have to sacrifice, whether it be a limb or your life, you have to stake it your all and complete it. This is what it means to carry other people's lives and become a Demon Slayer and if you don't think you can do it.. then quit trying to become one."
After I said that to the sisters, I walked out of the area and soon I ran towards my house

For about an Hour... I had finally arrived back at home, so now I was currently ascending the mountain towards my Family home and as soon as it got within my sights, My Little Brother Tanjiro, Little Sister Nezuko, and Finally my third Little Brother... Taeko
Nezuko/Tanjiro/Taeko: "Big Brother!" They ran up to me and hugged me
I looked down at them and noticed how red their eyes were
Y/N: "..Father.." I thought
Tanjiro: "B- Big Brother.. welcome home.." He smiled
Taeko: "W-Welcome home.."
Nezuko continued to hug me, tightly
Y/N: "How's Father..?"
Tanjiro: "H- He's been coughing a lot.."
Taeko nodded "Y-Yeah and he's been having a hard time walking.."
Y/N: "I see.." I pat them both in the back "I need to go and see him.."
Tanjiro nodded and soon unwrapped his arms but Nezuko kept on clinging
Y/N: "Nezuko?"
Nezuko sniffed and looked up at me with tears in her eyes "I-Is F-Father gonna die?"
Y/N: "..." I looked at Nezuko with a Sympathetic look and hugged her "Nezuko.. he's.."

After my reunion with Taeko, Tanjiro, and Nezuko, I walked inside my house and walked towards my Father's room
I slide open the door and see, my Mother clutching his hand tightly and a Doctor just right beside him
Kie looked at me "..Y-Y/N.."
Y/N: "Mother.." I looked down and noticed that.. my Mother was pregnant again
I walked inside the room and closed the door
Tanjuro: "C-Can you both.. leave me here alone with Y/N?"
Kie nodded and gave him a peck on the lips "Sure.." She looked up at the Doctor who was hesitant but soon nodded
I slowly sat down beside my Father's bed, looking at him
Tanjuro: "Welcome home... Y/N." He coughed "..I'm sorry you had to see me like this.."
Y/N: "It's okay.. It isn't you fault.."
Tanjuro: "Have you.. been doing good?"
I nodded "..I've been doing fine.."
Tanjuro smiled "Y/N.."
Y/N: "Y-Yes..?"
Tanjuro: "I'm sure.. your aware that.. I don't have much time left.."
I nodded
Tanjuro: "Y/N... before I go, would you please.. promise me something?"
I nodded again
Tanjuro "..I want you to.. Protect everyone.."
Y/N: "Huh?"
Tanjuro: "I want you to protect everyone, I want you to keep everyone safe from the Demons that you are tasked to slay.." He coughed "..And Y/N, please.. make sure that nobody here.. other than you.. are to take the road in becoming a Demon Slayer.. I want you to make sure of that, please Y/N, make sure.. that... Nobody, other than you, are to take the road in becoming a Slayer, because... I know that I won't be able to grow with my children, I know I won't be able to play with them, I won't be able to be with them... So All I want is for my children to live a peaceful life.."
He then grabbed my hand and clutched it "..Promise me.. Y/N.."
I squeezed his hand tightly "..I Promise.."
Tanjuro smiled "Thank you, Y/N.." He lays down now and he slowly closed his eyes
I clutched his hand tightly as tears slowly fell from my eyes
Soon the Sliding Door opens and I looked over and saw my Mother
Y/N: "M- Mother.. F-Father i- is.." I was cut off as her arms wrapped around me
Kie: "I.. I know.. you don't have to say it.." She hugged me tightly and soon I began to sob as I wrapped my arms around her also
After I calmed down, My father was soon placed under a White Blanket that covered his body and beside me were my Siblings and Mother who were also crying
"Promise me.. Y/N.."

Later.. I found myself walking back towards my estate but as I arrived I immediately remembered something
Y/N: "The Sisters..!" I jogged towards the field and looked around it only to find Kanae and Shinobu, sitting by the boulder, exhauted
I looked at them surprised, since I had expected them to quit
The Only Reason why I assigned them to move the boulder was only because I needed them to fail
Why? It was to make sure the two Sisters wouldn't take on the path of Demon Slaying... Since I had expected them both to leave, feeling Disappointed and Angry, maybe to even hold a grudge against me.. all because I had denied them the path of Demon Slaying by assigning them to the most unfair Task possible
But no.. these girls were still here, trying.. no.. THEY HAD Moved the Boulder, even if it was an inch.. they moved it, they were able to move the Boulder from its original position
Shinobu: "W-Welcome back, Kamado.."
Kanae: "We're.. glad to see you come home Unscathed.."
I looked at the Boulder and inspected it closely and after having a short inspection.. I confirmed that the Boulder's position had changed
But How?
I now felt a hand touch mine and I turned only to see Shinobu holding it
Shinobu: "..A Lever.."
Kanae: "That's right.."
I looked at the Boulder again and noticed a Dug out hole under it "..First they dug out a sufficiently deep hole under the boulder then they inserted a rod that became the point of action and they placed a round log near the boulder to use as a fulcrum." I thought
Y/N: "Did you both.. actually come up with us?"
Shinobu: "Didn't I say before? Me and Big Sis have good brains.."
I looked at my hand and felt that Shinobu's palm was all muddy, rough, and thick this is also probably the same case a Kanae
Shinobu: "So... do you have anything to say?"
