Chapter 18: Awakening

"He's not awake yet?"

Within the week and a few days after Y/N's Battle against the Upper Rank Demon, word spread like wildfire on Y/N's near success against the Upper Rank.

It was impressive he managed to hold long, especially being able to make the Upper Rank retreat but of course, he was still wounded and still asleep

Kanae, full of guilt and sadness, stayed by his side and kept watch everyday to see if he would wake up

Shinobu looked down at her sister, her eyes full of sympathy and sadness for her sister

Around the Sun Hashira was the Kocho sisters, his family, the Ubuyashiki parents as well as Urokodaki, Kyojuro Rengoku and finally Shinjuro Rengoku.

With Shinjuro was a masked boy with mismatched eyes who carried a snake white around the neck, Obanai Iguro

All of them silently stood by the Sun Hashira's side, until the former Flame Hashira broke it with a contemptuous tone as he left the room.

"To think he could challenge an Upper Rank Alone. He's a fool and idiot like you, Flower Hashira." said Shinjuro before he walked out

Kyojuro looks to his father "Father, wait-..!"

"Leave him." Obanai interrupted "The fact that he came proves he was worried."

With a narrow of his eyes, Obanai turned before following Shinjuro, leaving the rest to look on in slight surprise

"I-..I apologize for my Father's behavior." Kyojuro said, turning back to the rest

"He's just a big bad guy!" Nezuko now said

"Nezuko! Don't say that." Tanjiro scolds her

"Its okay Tanjiro, Nezuko." Kanae assured

Kie looks down sadly as she clutched her son's hand before looking to Shinobu "Is my son getting better at least?"

Shinobu looks to her "He is-..Although, he still hasn't shown any signs of waking up or anything. For now, all we could do here in the Butterfly Mansion is treat him until he wakes up."

Kanae sniffed as she kept sitting beside Y/N's bed, her nose red from her crying as she looked down

Shortly after everyone left, Kanae still opted to stay by Y/N's side. After all, it's all she could do for him for saving her

Every time the Flower Hashira looked at Y/N's unconscious body, all she could really think about is if she only got stronger

Strong enough to at least hold against the Upper Rank up until sunrise.

If that were the case then Y/N wouldn't be hurt, he wouldn't be in a coma, he would be by her own side..

Yet, like always, It was always Y/N that saved her and all she always did was watch on the sidelines

She felt guilty of always being the one that was saved and all she could think about was wanting to improve

If Y/N died right here then it'd be because of her, she had involved him with that battle against the Upper Rank.

..And if Y/N died right now then it would mean the Fire Hashira and Strongest Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps wasn't able to beat an Upper Rank and if he wasn't able to, then who could?

Right now all Kanae could think was how she could make up for her weakness. Thinking how she could repay her friend for the things he had done for her..
