That day

Ever since I moved to this town forgotten even by god, I changed completely and everything became depressing and delusional.

If someone would jump in front of a train or a truck... they would simply call the police or whatever takes care of those things. Some may think it's impossible but believe me when I say that no one had a single sparkle of life in their eyes, of course they'd show their best fake smile and laugh when the circumstances required it but that's the only exception.

I worked as a waitress in the most "popular" diner and since I didn't live too far from it, I didn't have a car or anything like that because I just had to walk.

One day as I was serving an old man I found out something, or better, someone.

"Ugh this psycho kids..." the old man I was serving sighed angrily reading a news paper "... kids nowadays watch too many scary movies. That's why when I was younger..." I stopped listening to him as my attention got caught by the article he was reading, about a serial killer with a white shrieking mask and a hooded black robe.

He stalked his victims after playing with them on the phone, then he would take photos of them with their guts all around the place. It sounded disgusting to me but oddly fascinating.

"Excuse me lady!" Another costumer made me snap from my thoughts.

When the day was over I simply took my bag and left.

As I was walking to my house it started raining so much I almost couldn't even hear the sound of cars on the road.

I had to run because I didn't have an umbrella nor a hood to cover myself from the rain.
I made it to my place, soaking wet, but at least I made it.
The place where I lived was a palace in awful conditions and company as all the neighbors were annoying as hell. I lived at the top floor and had to use the stairs most of the time because the elevator was almost always out of order and it wasn't easy for me since there were ten floors.

As soon as I got inside my humble flat I opened the window overlooking the stairs I could use to save myself in case of fire.
I threw the wet clothes to wash and walked around only in my underwear. After tying my hair I grabbed a cigarette and sat on the edge inside of the window, I lit my cigarette and admired the rain, feeling in total peace with myself while smoking.

After a while, I threw away the cigarette almost finished and went to take a shower.

While doing so, my mind was still thinking about that serial killer, how he didn't leave a single evidence or fingerprint, nothing. He was just like a ghost.
I wondered what I would have done if I were in his place, if I would be that careful too or simply killing for fun.
Did he do it for fun or revenge?
That's another question that popped in my mind while washing away the stress from my body.

When I was clean, I wore an oversized shirt and my underwear, I put on my headphones and started listening to some music as I decided to search more informations about that serial killer: Ghostface.

I looked at all the pictures I could find and all the articles about him. He went from town to town, vanishing while doing so, like if he lived in the dark, in the shadows or something like that.

He looked like a professional but didn't kill a lot of people, maybe he didn't want to be noticed at first, that's what I thought.

I looked at the hour, it was almost three in the morning, but I didn't care because I didn't have to work in the morning.
Anyhow I was about to fall asleep on the computer when I heard a loud noise coming from the living room.

I went to check slowly with my baseball bat in hands, I started thinking that the Ghostface had been able to see me making researches about him and decided to kill me because he wouldn't have liked that.

But it was only a book.

It fell because of the open window, I forgot to closet it and it kept raining along with a lot of wind so it must have made the book fall.

I sighed in relief and walked towards the window, closing it, I felt something wet under my feet. A couple of raindrops must have got inside too because of the wind, I thought, of course it had to be like that.

I went back to my room and decided that it was time to sleep, hopefully without nightmares.

I woke up pretty late in the morning and before I knew it, it was already time to go to work, where I didn't do almost anything because that day I just had to serve coffee and nothing more so everything went smoothly and quickly.

It didn't rain on my way back home that time but it started raining as soon as I finished dinner.

"This house is so sad" that's what I thought almost everyday while I was alone.

That same night, the phone rang right when I laid in bed, so I had to get up and go answer to look if it was something important.
While doing so I heard a squeaky door in the hallway. I ignored it and answered the phone a bit creeped out.

"Who is it?"

"Hello there" a deep and raspy voice said

"Again. Who is it?" I started to loose patience

"short tempered I see"

"Listen here creep, it's three am and I'm very tired so you either tell me what the fuck you want from me or just hang up"

"You're voice is very hot you know? I wonder what it would sound like when you scream"

"The fuck?"

"Oh that sounded awful how the hell does he say that to his victims. Anyway. I see you have been doing researches about me, am I right?"

"What?"

"About the Ghostface"

"Oh sure! You want to kill me now right? Oh no please someone save me from the Ghostface he's going to take photos of me while I'm cut open, I wonder how good I'd look like that. Please. Just go to sleep kid" I chuckled

"You're very funny"

"Aw thank you I use to get that a lot"

The voice chuckled

"Why don't you turn around then?" The voice whispered

"Oh come on do you think you're-" I said while turning around very calmly, my heart started beating very fast and my hands began to sweat when I looked at the window.

"-funny" I finished looking straight at the window, where he stood... Ghosface was staring at me and panic started to rush in my veins as he lifted his arm and waved playfully at me, tilting his head to the side.

His other hand was occupied by the phone, I was paralyzed while still holding the phone in my hand tightly.

"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?"  He chuckled.

"Now I want you to do something alright?" He asked but I didn't answer, I just nodded.

"Open the window" he demanded. I didn't move.

"Open the window or I'll have to get in myself and it won't end well for you. Now pretty please it's cold out here. Open. The. Window."

I slowly started to walk towards the window, I was scared but I tried to hide it with a death stare, hoping he would at least end my life quickly.

I opened the window as he asked and when I did he hang up and put away the phone in his pocket.

"Step back" he demanded and I did as he asked.

"Not so feisty anymore are you?" He asked as he walked towards me, he was soaking wet because of the rain.

I kept walking backwards until my back hit the wall.

He chuckled "oh would you look at that. Seems like you can't escape now" he caged me with his hand on the wall, his other right under my chin, lifting it to make me look at him but I closed my eyes.

"What? Are you scared? You don't have to be... well... maybe a little bit" I opened my eyes and stared at him angrily.

He took out his knife and cut my thigh quickly. I hissed in pain.

"Stop playing. Just do what you came here for" I said smirking, trying to annoy him.

He shrugged and put a hand on my eyes, I couldn't see anything but I could hear the sound of plastic and breathing, then the next thing I felt was surprising.

I felt warm lips gently meeting mines. He was kissing me. I didn't know what to do so I just stood there. And before I knew it. He stopped and his hand moved away from my eyes. I kept them closed either way and when I opened them.

He was gone.

I was at lack of words or thoughts. Did he spare me? Or did he just wait for the right moment?

I went back to bed, a little shocked and confused, I fell asleep.
