The ride to dinner was quiet, only the occasional cough would separate through the stuffy air inside the car.
A feeling of relief swept over the four of you as you exited the car.
It was a favorite of your family's, expensive for sure but for good reason as the food was delectable.
Once you were all seated and orders taken, the awkward silence once again returned to the atmosphere.
Your hand was currently being held by Katsuki's own on his lap next to you, his thumb absentmindedly tracing over the back of your hand.
Your mother was the first to speak.
Clearing her throat quickly, she asked "So have you decided on a major yet?" The question was directed towards you, and you felt yourself tense up slightly, making Katsuki's eyes shoot over to you.
"Uh...I'm not sure yet. I think I want to do something with science because I liked the biology course I took this semester...but I dunno yet..." you expected the usual sigh of disappointment from your mother, but it never came.
When you peeked up to look across the table she was only gently nodding her head.
"I think it's a great idea, if that's something you want to pursue. There's many options available to you in a science based degree."
Staring for a moment with wide eyes, you snapped out of it and felt a small smile happen across your face at the direction your mother took. It seemed like she was actually trying like she said.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw the corner of Katsuki's mouth tilt up in response to your reaction.
"I agree. Your doing great sweetheart." Your father praised you, and you couldn't help but looked shocked.
"What?" Your father asked when seeing your wide eyes staring at him.
"You just never called me that before.. or told me anything like that." You shrugged with the last part, looking around the restaurant to avoid his eyes.
Looking back, your father had a small frown on his face and looked guilty.
"I'm truly sorry. We really have let you down over these years." His words were low but audible.
"It's okay...your trying now.." you rubbed the back of your neck awkwardly in an attempt to diffuse the melancholy atmosphere that was beginning to settle about the table.
Thankfully the waiter returned with your food, so the four of you were able to fill the silence with eating.
Small talk was made throughout the meal, the table settling into a more manageable yet still uncomfortable mood.
After dinner, the ride home felt long but not entirely as uncomfortable as it was on the way to the restaurant.
"Thank you both for joining us for dinner. Do you need anything before we head to bed?" Your mother asked you.
You shook your head. "No, I think we're okay. Thank you though. And thanks for dinner." Your reply made your mother give you a smile as she gave you a short nod and then turned to head to bed.
With a dramatic sigh, you flung yourself onto your back on the mattress.
Hearing his heavy footsteps, Katsuki stood at the edge of the bed looking down at you with a slight smirk.
"I don't know if I'm ever gonna get used to them being like....that. It's weird but not....not entirely unwelcome." You confessed as you stared at the ceiling.
Katsuki hummed, and you felt him bump your legs with his knee, making you look at him.
"Let's take a shower and go to bed." He reached out a hand to help you up, but you pushed it away and rolled over huffing.
"I'm comfortable. I'll just sleep like this." You replied and heard Katsuki scoff as you closed your eyes.
You thought he had maybe gone to take his own shower, as you heard the water start in your bathroom.
A shriek left your lips as you were suddenly lifted by your waist and tossed over Katsuki's shoulder, your head hanging down at his exposed lower back.
He was just wearing his jeans, and while you wanted to bash him for grabbing you like that, you were momentarily distracted by the flexing of the muscles in his back as he carried you effortlessly.
Your trance was broken as your body was slid off his shoulder and plopped on your feet on the bathroom floor.
You narrowed your eyes up at him, and he just smirked back down at you before leaning down to take your breath away with a kiss, your annoyance slipping away the longer you felt his lips moving against your own.
He pulled away and eyed you as he began to finish undressing.
You complied and began to undress as well before you both stepped into the warm water.
At first the two of you just continued to kiss and hold each other. While the both of you were naked, this moment wasn't filled with lust, just an appreciation of being with each other in an intimate moment.
Katsuki pulled away enough to look at your face, his hair having small droplets falling from the ends that were all over the place from the water.
"I love you." His rough voice carried with it all the emotion he was trying to convey in those three words, making your heart swell in your chest.
"I love you right back." You replied, wrapping your hands around his middle to pull him closer to you so you could rest your head on his firm chest.
His arms wrapped around your body as well, his large hands rubbing up and down your back as the water rained down on you both.
After the shower, you pulled on your underwear and one of Katsuki's shirts before you climbed into the bed.
Katsuki turned off the lights and got in beside you, pulling you closer to him.
One of your hands found his and began tracing the veins crawling across the back of his hand as you found yourself lost in thought.
"What's going on in that head of yours?" Katsuki asked against your temple, making you pause your mindless trail on his hand.
"I was....I was just thinking how I didn't think this would ever be a scenario for me." You replied thoughtfully.
"How do you mean?"
You sighed softly, before turning more where you were facing him, his eyes watching you silently.
"Being here, in this house, and feeling actually happy for once. I can't remember the last time I've ever felt that here, if I ever truly did."
Katsuki's hand grabbed one of your own as he began his own tracing of his thumb across it. His eyes stayed on your face, urging you quietly to continue.
"Being with you was a shock to begin with. And then falling, fast might I add, for you. Follow that up with my parents doing a complete 180 on me. It's this whole thing I never thought I would get to experience." You finished your trail of thoughts.
"Making sure you stay happy is my goal now. And I'm the best there is, so I'll make it happen no matter what." Katsuki assured you, and you snorted at his not so subtle bragging.
Leaning over to kiss him, you felt him hold you there longer when you attempted to pull back.
Finally Katsuki released you for you to lay back down into the bed at his side.
A peaceful moment passed before the silence was interrupted.
"Wait. What do you mean being with me was a shock?" Katsuki probed.
You laughed quietly beside him.
"You were an asshole, 'Suki. I couldn't stand you at first." You chuckled but felt him bristle up beside you.
"What! How was I an asshole?!" He exclaimed, and you had to look up to shoot him an incredulous look.
"Calm down blondie, your my favorite person now." Katsuki scoffed and looked away but you could see the tinge of pink on his cheeks through the filtered light coming from your window via the street lamp outside.
You rested your head back against his chest and smiled when you felt his arms tighten around you as you both began to let the days exhaustion lull you to sleep.
This story is getting closer to wrapping up and I feel bittersweet about it, lol.
