3rd POV:

After training for what seems like forever, the day of the exam by Execution Cannonball came. You and the rest of your class gather in the underground play arena and Kalego explains how to play using one of those animated boards he hates. It explains the game as regular dodgeball in two teams, but spells can be used. You can cast spells to affect the ball, but spells used on other players are not allowed. Then Kalego-sensei announces he will assign the teams and hand out yellow and red armbands to differentiate the teams. You receive a red armband and are officially a member of team B. You look to check how the teams are split.

Team A has Sabnock, Clara, Elizabetta, Iruma, Jazz, Agares and finally you.

Team B has Goemon, Schneider, Lied, Asmodeus, Kamui, Kerori and Purson.

Wait, Purson? You never saw this guy before, he has white bowl cut hair and two purple horns. Of course you didn't notice, as his family's prized talent is blending in.

The match begins and you try to keep up, barely dodging the ball. Oracle told you to use the magic a bit later in, so you try to stick to it. The other demons get beat rather quickly, but your team has the upper hand as after several minutes it's Iruma, Sabnock and you against a brooding Asmodeus. No idea what he's thinking, and you don't really care. Sabnock seizes the ball and after throwing it at Asmodeus he gets countered and then it's just you three. Asmodeus looks at you and gets determined to hit you, no doubt to delay his showdown against his oh so beloved Iruma. You can't dodge or catch a hit powered by his flames. When he draws his arm back, you widen your stance and aim at the ground. "Cruel Creator." You cast, and suddenly the ground breaks and dust envelops the sports battlefield. Those around you, except for Kalego-sensei, think that the goal of this spell is to cast a shrouding cloud and so Asmodeus tosses where he saw you last. The ball goes through the cloud but is caught. When the dust clears, your creation stands before them. A tall sandstone textured humanoid without a face that's equipped with six arms stands there, its middle pair holding the ball. The fingers are claw-like and long so it's perfectly capable of catching the ball with even one hand. "What is that?!" Asmodeus exclaims as the demons around you look on in surprise, taking in the thrall's appearance. The sound of grating stone fills the air as it takes a stance, and many don't fail to spot you behind it, eyes closed and full focusing on the creature.

"Linq!" You cast and a crackle echoes in the air without any visible effect. But the spell itself is very important and creates a connection between you and the thrall to allow more free control. With just your thoughts, you make it act. It draws it's arm back and throws at Asmodeus, who dodges in fear of getting injured from the force. It bounces into your team's outfield, and Sabnock passes the ball from there to your creation. "Want a go, Iruma?" You ask from your spot, and get a meek no. The thrall takes the ball into one of it's arms and quickly spins it in a circle to create force, and then shoots at Asmodeus who barely dodges, but grabs the ball before it can get to the outfield. The thrall stands in front of you and blocks his aim, all six arms on the ready.

Asmodeus gets some sort of internal struggle going on and looks like he needs to go to the toilet for a few moments, but then charges up the ball and throws it at Iruma. The male in question manages to catch the ball, but does a 360 to keep the ball's momentum and throws it right back at Asmodeus, winning the game.

Finally relieved, you let go of your connection to the thrall and let it crumble like a statue worn by time, then you let yourself collapse as well. You can easily hold it up, but it's the pressure that got to you. "Iruma, [Y/N]." Kalego-sensei starts as he walks over to the two of you. "Iruma, I wouldn't have let you get a higher rank if Asmodeus let you win. You are hereby promoted to Bet(2)." He declares, snatching his badge and upgrading it with magic before handing it back. He then looks at you for a moment, and then sighs. "Get up." He says, and you scramble to your feet. "[Y/N], watching you grow like this is truly interesting." He starts before he turns to Iruma, Asmodeus and Clara as they eagerly discuss Iruma's promotion. "Shut up and listen, idiots!" He scolds them, to which they grow quiet. Suddenly, he grabs your shoulders and turns you so you are facing the class as he stands behind you. "Listen up, Misfits! [Y/N] here is the prime example of how you should be! Learn new spells, get new techniques and make effort to grow even without a teacher standing behind you! None of you would pull a spell like that off, you don't try! Just because Iruma returned the hit doesn't mean [Y/N] wouldn't have won eventually. I don't know if you noticed, but his golem didn't decay in the slightest, his control is strong and perfected enough for longer use." He lectures the class, and you feel your face grow redder at the praise as the entire class stares at you. He then turns you around to face you and snatches your badge on which he uses the same magic on it he did when promoting Iruma. "And therefore, for your efforts and demonstration that you got what it takes to be a demon, I promote you to He(5)." He declares and pins the badge to your collar.

Huh? You feel yourself freeze as you are now officially the highest ranked demon in your class, surpassing Asmodeus who still bears Dalet(4). Your head spins a little as you're stunned silent by this new fact and simply stare blankly at Kalego-sensei. He sighs once more but doesn't say anything about it. "Class dismissed." He says and takes his leave as you stare at his back, still blank.

"Woo, go [Y/N]! Our first He(5)!" Cheers Jazz as he runs up to you, happy as you should be in this moment. "Oh yeah, our class will go down in history!" Lied joins in. "I find the fact that you were praised by Kalego-sensei more impressive." Goemon says as he walks up to you as well. "He(5)?! Iruma-sama should bear that title as he is more impressive." Asmodeus speaks up in the back, and you feel yourself getting annoyed at him for ruining the moment. He is shushed by Iruma and gets glares from the rest of the class as a result of his little outburst. "It's true though, I never heard Kalego talk so highly of anyone." Jazz says, salvaging the conversation. "Well, he is right... We couldn't cast whatever that was that [Y/N] did." Lied agrees, glancing at you. You finally speak up, looking bashful "Well, I did train it for about a month...". "Yeah, but it was so cool!" says Kamui as he runs up to you all, then strikes a dreamy pose "I bet you could impress a few ladies with it.". You all share a sigh at the demon's antics, but the mood lifts. In the end, they didn't learn anything about training on their own...

The next day, lunch break:

You get up from your seat in the misfit class and are about to go eat with the rest of the gang but freeze when you hear your name called. You turn around and see Kalego-sensei at this seat, his arms full of papers of several classes he has to grade. You obediently make your way over, wondering what he needs. "Yes, Kalego-sensei?" You ask him. "Could you help me with the rest of the papers to the teacher's lounge? You're the only one here I trust to not steal any or drop them." He says, motioning to the table with his head where another equally large stack of papers stands. "Of course." You nod, taking the papers and following him out like how a duckling follows their mother. "Now that I got a moment with you, I am curious about one thing." He speaks up, glancing at you briefly before looking back to the way ahead of him. "What's the spell you used yesterday? I know of 'Servus', a spell that does the same thing, but that spell needs more power than what you used on your creation." Kalego asks. Quickly apologizing to the Oracle in your head for stealing their words, you answer "Well, magic is based on the mind of the caster. That means that with the correct mindset, any word can be used to help me recall the feeling of using a non-verbal spell... With enough practice I could nail the non-verbal spell and then use the word simply to trigger it, even if that word itself doesn't cast a spell." You say, and Kalego quickly whips around to look at you for a moment. He quickly breaks from that and starts walking again, clearing his throat. "That's smart, keep on doing that." He says just as you walk into the teacher's lounge.

The Oracle manifests to your left, smiling mischievously and you already know that they are here to inform you on what they hear. "We didn't expect that to be honest," they start as you walk to Kalego-sensei's desk and set the papers down while the few teachers around take note of your presence. "We didn't expect Kalego to think you're a genius." They say, and you do your best to not flinch or appear shocked as you hear that. Kalego's opinion of you keeps rising, and despite understanding it you can't help but be shocked – He's very picky and strict in his lessons, so him having an opinion this high about you is just... strange. Not that you mind, though. It brings the advantage of him being friendlier towards you, even if by just a bit.

"Thank you for the help, you're free to go." Kalego says, dismissing you. You nod and are about to leave, but before you get the chance to, you hear your name called by someone else. "[Y/N]-kun! Hello!" You hear the familiar voice of Balam-sensei and look his way. "Balam-sensei." You smile as the large teacher walks over to you. Kalego watches from the side, interested. "Good job helping out Kalego-sensei. Is he giving you a hard time?" He asks, making the person in question hiss a bit. "I got nothing to complain about." You say and realize this is actually the first time you got to talk to Balam-sensei more than exchanging just a hello. "Huh?" He suddenly says, and you notice him looking at your collar. "[Y/N]-kun, did you rank up?!" He says, surprise evident in his voice as he gapes at your badge. "Mhm." You nod, a bit nervous at how much energy he's using in his voice. "I'm happy for you! Someone as polite as you deserves it!" he says and starts ruffling your hair, his passion getting the attention of other teachers. Even though Balam-sensei is rumored to be more curious and touchy about creatures and their properties, going even as far as to restrain students during classes with his vines, this is actually the first time he touched you. You freeze up like you always do under higher praise, your cheeks a bit flushed as the male celebrates your promotion as if it was his own. Kalego frowns on the side, visibly disliking what he sees. "Let the boy go, Balam." He huffs, and Balam-sensei backs off. "Sorry, I got too excited..." Balam apologizes to you. "It's all good, I wasn't hurt or anything. Now if you excuse me, I gotta go eat. Goodbye Balam-sensei, Kalego-sensei." You excuse yourself, waving goodbye. Balam-sensei waves back, but Kalego is already sitting down to grade the papers.

As you make your way to the cafeteria, the Oracle can't help but think. From what they can read from the two teachers, they can tell already that Balam is going to spoil you while Kalego will make you work hard. One is soft, the other is firm.
