'God this is boring'
Sophie otherwise known as soph thought as she heard her father and her step mom talk about baby names for the child growing in Haley's stomach
"How about Jack?" Sophie voiced as her father and Haley's heads turned towards her simultaneously.
"Isn't that a bit basic" Haley said whilst scrunching up her nose to show her obvious disgust towards the name.
Sophie bit her tongue and rolled her eyes and continued studying. She could see her father muttering jack to himself, testing to see if Jack was the right name for his new born baby that was coming into this world .
It was clear to anyone who had eyes that Sophie did not hate Haley as she was her father's wife but she definitely disliked her.
It was the fact that Sophie and her father were alone for a part of their life's when Haley suddenly walked in. After Sophie's mom had left her on the doorstep of Aaron's house with a note in the basket claiming that soph was his daughter-a result of a one night stand- and,that she wanted nothing to do with her.
Aaron decided to take Sophie in as he had always dreamed of becoming a father. Sure it was in the most unexpected way but he finally had what he wanted
Sophie's life revolved around her father after that as it was just her and her father whilst she was growing up. She had no other parental figure in her life besides her father and she looked up to him.Sophie was so used to the little imaginary bubble she had put for her and her father until Haley came into their lives.
Soph pretended not to care because she could see her father was happy. He was finally content. If he was happy, then so was she. After he asked Haley to marry him and they finally had their wedding, Sophie felt like she no longer had her father there for her anymore.
The only reason she disliked Haley was because of that. She had lost the person she gave her all to. The only person who fully knew about her dislike towards Haley was her brother Spence otherwise known as Spencer Reid.
She could trust him with anything and vise versa. The two had met years ago when her father had to get something from the office and he had instructed her not to wander around. Her being a curious child, wandered around and ended up looking into a room where Spencer was staring at a chess board thoughtfully.
She thought he needed help so she spoke out and instructed him to move some of the chess pieces around and whilst she was helping him Aaron was pacing around Penelope's Garcia's little cave and was worrying. Like a lot.
He asked Penelope Garcia to pull up the cameras and what he saw made him immediately soften. It was Spencer and Sophie playing chess together
"This girls gonna be the death of me" he muttered as Garcia laughed clearly enjoying her boss getting riled up so easily
"No you have to move it there, so that way you can win"
"I never thought about it that way"
"That's because your dumb silly" she sassily replied.
"Hey! I have an IQ of -
He was cut off by Aaron clearing his throat. As soon as Sophie's head turned and saw her father she quickly ran up to him and wrapped her tiny arms around his legs.
"Daddy, look I made a new friend" the child eagerly told him. Aaron chuckled at Spencer's bewildered face and looked back at his little girl and picked her up wrapping his arms around her tiny waist
"Yes I can see that"
Spencer was fairly new in the Bau and when he saw that the girl he was arguing with and was playing chess with, was one of his bosses daughter, he started apologizing.
"No need to apologize Reid,Sophie likes to wander around a lot"
Spencer laughed lightly as he tried to ease the tension he was feeling.
"She's pretty smart for her age"
Aaron agreed with him muttering something along the lines of "don't I know it". He had to go back home as it was getting late and past Sophie's bedtime but before he left Sophie gave a final tip to Spencer
"You'll realize your mistake soon enough that your making Spence don't worry, you might even be able to beat me"
Spencer was never called a nickname before as he barely even had what you would call a friend so he quickly thought of a nickname for Sophie
"I'll beat you next time soph, just you wait"
The two quickly formed a sibling like bond over the years as Spencer would be waiting for Sophie with his chess board and they would verse each other. They would argue about star wars and doctor who and they would give each other books that the other hadn't read.
Spencer would steal some of Sophie's favorite snack (smarties) whenever she wasn't looking and Sophie would take gulps of Spencer's coffee when his attention was elsewhere.
Of course Sophie knew Spencer would take her smarties and Spencer knew that Sophie would take his coffee and drink some of it,but they never chose to act on it.
Soph quickly finished up her work and when she put the final book away, her father's work phone rang. Her and Haley knew what it meant, a new case.
Sophie instantly brightened at the thought of the team who was like a second family to her. She quickly thought of something that would let her father take her to his job
"Dad can I come with you, Spence can help with my math homework. Lie
Sophie had no math's homework as it was fairly easy but what her father didn't know,wouldn't hurt. Aaron sighed as he knew she was lying he was a Profiler, after all it was his job. He still agreed.
The elevator dinged signalling that they were at the floor of the Bau. Sophie ran up to Penelope Garcia's little man cave and flung open the door.
"Jesus munchkin you scared me" Garcia said whilst putting a hand over her heart
"Well luckily it is I, your favorite girl" Sophie singsonged as she sat down on a chair Penelope specifically placed for her. She opened the snack drawer and saw the packets of smarties placed into rows. She grabbed a pack and instantly opened them feeling better then she was.
Her and Garcia started talking about random things and amidst their conversation Spencer entered the room knowing Sophie would be here.
"Spence!" Sophie exclaimed as she got up from her chair and ran up to him hugging him tightly. If you knew Spencer, you would know he was a germaphobe but with Sophie he could care less.
"Its been ages since I last saw you" Sophie dramatically claimed. Her speech was somewhat muffled since her head was still buried in Spencer's neck.
"We saw each other day before yesterday,soph" Spencer chuckled at the girl who was hugging him
"And your point is?" Soph replied back raising an eyebrow. She had missed him as she only had Haley as company yesterday and that was definitely something she wanted to talk to Spencer about.
Spencer spent the rest of the hour telling stories about what happened on yesterdays case and Garcia and Sophie laughed about the fact that Jason had beat Spencer in chess yet again.
During their conversation, Derek had entered because Spencer was called in for a case. Sophie whined about the fact that she hadn't seen Derek yesterday too and he reluctantly stayed for her until Hotch had waltzed in whilst Derek was throwing smarties into Sophie's mouth.
"You were supposed to be in the jet by now" he sternly commented. Spencer tensed whilst Sophie just laughed at the fact that Spencer was still scared of her father after all these years.
That was something she constantly teased him about. They quickly went out of the room but before they did, Hotch gave Sophie a stern look meant for her to tell her not to cause any trouble.
(Once he walked into his office after a long case, Sophie and Garcia had decorated his office with bright colors and a banner that wrote 'nothing beats a great smile'
After they had left,it was back to Garcia and Sophie relinquishing in each other's comfort.
