Sorry for being gone for months 💀
We stood close to the chopper, seeing a soldier release a rope and quickly slide down.
The two soldiers let go of the rope and face us.
"Oh my God."
They raise and pointed their guns at us. We watched as two other soldiers got down.
4 soldiers pointer cornered us as the chopper flew away.
'huh?'
Cheong-san step forward and the soldier directly pointed his gun at him.
He spoke, "Get down. All of you, down to the ground!"
"Sir, Please save us." Dae-su said while raising his hands
"Get down to the ground! Get down!"
We all followed and sat on the ground.
"9 survivors confirmed." I heard the soldier say while checking up on us.
They went up to us and one by one check our temperature.
"Check."
"Check."
The soldier went towards Jeon who was beside me and check his temperature.
"Check."
Then the soldier went last for me, he took my temperature. I look up and saw a red light.
"Temperature is 34.5 degrees."
'I thought I was hot-Char'
'Shit, do they suspect me?'
The soldier stare at me for a bit which made me nervous.
"Providing a warming blanket." He said
They then wrap me around a warming blanket.
"One has hypothermia. The rest are normal."
'Woah, that was close.'
The soldiers went back in front of us. I heard one of them saying they'll rescue us after completing their mission.
'That means, they needed to come to our school for something?'
'I wonder what it is?'
"You may get up now."
We all slowly got up. Su-hyeok helps me up as I stand.
"You okay?" He asked while I nodded in response.
"Are you the only survivors?"
"We have no idea." Gyeong-su answered
"I'm sure there are more." Cheong-san added
"We'll go down for a few minutes. Wait right here."
"Aren't you going to rescue us?" Ji-min suddenly said
"We will."
"So don't go anywhere."
"Don't do anything. Just stay here.
"Understand?"
"Yes." We respond
The soldiers signaled to each other. "Let's go."
They got to the edge and attached their ropes so they could get down.
We watched them get down and patiently waited for them to return.
I flinched as I heard sounds of shooting from below.
'Ugh, I forgot I had superhearing.'
'This sucks.'
I walked away from the other side, not wanting to be near the shooting sounds. Su-hyeok noticed and followed behind.
I covered my ears and held on to my blanket.
The others stay still while Joon-Yeong and Dae-su step in front a bit, watching the one soldier looking over the edge.
"We have to go. Hurry!"
Su-hyeok and I returned to the others and saw the soldiers retrieve something, I don't know what is it but Joon-Yeng did say it came from the science lab.
The chopper showed up again and flew towards us.
"We'll pull you up one at a time. Stay still even if you're scared."
"Aren't you landing the chopper?" Ji-min asked
"We can't for safety reasons ."
'That chopper is so damn loud.' I thought and covered my ears with both hands while Su-hyeok holds the blanket on my shoulders.
"He'll pull you in, so don't worry."
'Can't help but be cautious since you guys did forget about us earlier.'
"You can't go all at once, so let's go one by one."
"You can't take us all?"
"We're taking all of you, but you have to go one by one."
'Can we all fit inside the chopper?'
On-jo went towards Ji-min and said, "You go first."
"Go first."
Ji-min got tied to the rope so she can climb up safely. She held onto the rope as the rope pulled her up.
Hyo-Ryung was next and got ready.
With my hearing abilities, I listened to that one soldier.
"Please repeat. Do you mean everyone?"
'Everyone will be saved right?'
"But their temperatures are fine."
'I have a bad feeling about this.'
"But they're just students." The soldier said
'What does he mean...'
He looked at us and say, "Understood. Over."
He announced, "Operation canceled! We'll only take the package and pull out!"
'What the hell.'
I looked up and saw Ji-min was so close to the inside of the chopper but was stopped by the soldier.
"Sir! I'm going back down." She said and was confused.
"Hey! She's coming down."
"Why? What's wrong?" They pulled out the things that are attached to Hyo-Ryung.
"Why is she coming down?"
"What's going on?"
"Why did you take that off? Please no." Hyo-Ryung begged as she was pushed back to us.
"What do you mean it's canceled?"
"Please pull me back up." Ji-min begged
"Pull me back up! Fuck! I won't go back!" She yelled
"No! Take me with you!"
Ji-min got detached from the rope and was also pushed away.
"Sir, please!"
"I want to go!"
The soldier then pointed a gun toward Ji-min as she pleaded to go with them.
"Why won't you take us with you?"
"Wait a second. What's wrong?"
"We're not zombies." Gyeong-su protested
"Take me with you!"
"Step back."
"Step back, or we'll shoot." He warned
'What the fuck? He's supposed to be a soldier whose job is to save people.'
"Stand back."
My eyes then saw Cheong-san pulling On-jo to the front.
"Get in the chopper."
"Sir, can't you just take a few of us?" Cheong-san pleaded
I stared at the soldier before he hesitates to shoot, I was about to step forward when he shoots towards the sky, frightening all of us.
"I'm begging you. Please take just a few of us."
Cheong-san still holding onto On-Jo's hand walks a bit and again, the soldier shoots up in the sky.
"Sir."
We watched as the soldier walks backward straight to the rope while still pointing the gun at us.
"I'm sorry." The last thing we heard from him before he signaled above the chopper and got lifted by the rope.
I looked towards everyone seeing all their sorrowful looks watching as the chopper flew away, closing its door.
"They abandoned us, right?" Hyo-Ryung spoke
"No one will come to save us now, right?"
I wanted to speak and all but I can't find the words to say. All I can say is, Adults fucking betrayed us. They left when we needed their help during a time like this.
"W-Why did they leave us?" Jeon questioned
"Maybe, they fucking thought we were zombies." Woo-jin said
"Then they would've killed us." Joon-Yeong response.
"Did they seriously leave for no fucking reason?" Gyeong-su asked in disbelief
Cheong-san fumed and kicks the campfire, stomping into the ground until it was gone. On-jo went to him and grabs his arm.
"What are you doing?"
Cheong-san shakes off her hand and says, "It's useless."
"No one's coming. No one is coming now."
He started to kick the SOS sign we made earlier, scattering the things and yelling to the sky.
A few seconds, the rain started pouring out of the sky and thunderstorms occurred.
I covered both of my ears as shut as they can because of the loud noises of the rain and thunder.
I groaned in pain, hearing more thunderstorms.
"Noona!"
Jeon and Su-hyeok immediately stand next to Haneul as they see her in pain, covering her ears.
"Are you okay?" Su-hyeok asked
"She's not, obviously." Jeon mumbled
"The rain, fucking hurts my ears." Haneul replied
An idea then pops into jeon's mind and Su-hyeok then looks at him, thinking the same.
"I'll rip a part of my shirt since you already have a ripped on yours." Jeon said while he rips a small part of his uniform and rolls it into 2 earplugs.
Jeon then taps Haneul's shoulder signaling to take her hands out. He gives the two earplugs to her as she puts them into her ears.
Haneul's sighed, feeling relieved as the rain wasn't as loud as before. She smiled at the two boys and thank Jeon, by hugging him.
Su-hyeok smiled watching the two interact, he truly believes that Jeon and Haneul are siblings in the past.
The trio, Dae-su, Joon-Yeong, and Woo-jin we're laying down on the ground with their open mouths to drink the rain out of the sky. The others did the same looking up at the sky, drinking the rain. They have no choice as they were about to die from dehydration so they thank God that it was raining.
"It's so refreshing."
They were glad that it rain because they get to drink water but were disappointed not to be saved.
All of them can't help but cry. They sobbed in the rain, remembering that there were left to die by soldiers who swore to save the world and those people in need of help.
Feeling sadness, anger, betrayal, and emptiness. Each of them spoke, letting all their feelings out.
"Fuck this."
"They left."
"They were soldiers and they left."
"We're all by ourselves now."
"We'll have to save ourselves in this stupid apocalypse."
