Carnival

The day was quiet. You had started off your morning in the non-combatant training room, practicing your flexibility and some new moves Dick had taught you. When noon rolled around, you visited the kitchen, making an egg omelet and a protein shake, and were soon joined by Jaime. After lunch, Gar invited you to an epic game of miniature soccer (which he unfortunately won), and then took you into the common room for a movie.

He chose Grease.

"You must think I'm crazy." He smiled, putting the DVD into the player.

"No, no! I love Grease!" You assured him, and Gar turned to you. "It was my adoptive sister's favorite before she passed, and my adoptive father didn't mind it either. He's a huge movie buff."

"I'm sorry for your loss."

"Oh.." you were shocked my his sincerity.

You had talked with Jaime at lunch, and he had described Gar as rude and ill-mannered. You could see where Jaime was coming from, but Gar was nothing but pleasant and sweet to you. Yes, he did sprinkle in the occasional dirty or flirtatious comment here and there, but you didn't mind. In fact, you usually responded with something equally dirty.

"Thank you. She died a while ago."

Gar hit play, and walked to the couch, flopping down next to you.

Halfway through the movie, you and Gar were discussing the dynamics of every scene and the plot of the entire film.

"I'm just saying, Danny and Sandy are two stereotypical high schoolers who teach the audience to change for their lover." Gar stated.

"Oh, my gosh! Finally, someone gets it!" You exclaimed, elbows on top of the pillow resting on your crossed legs. Gar had his arm thrown behind you, resting on the back of the couch.

"'Oh, the guy I had sex with on the beach during the summer is a bad boy and I'm a normal person, so let me pierce my ears and start smoking!' What kind of message is that?!"

"I know, right?" Gar laughed.

"Hey, but it's still a good movie." You turned, looking to him.

He turned to you, his auburn eyes locking with your as he smiled gently.

"Agreed."

You both stayed like that for a moment, until Kori walked in, yelling up a storm.

"Everyone! Shoes on and in the car! We're heading out!"

"Oh, shit!" You gasped, standing. "I need to change. We can finish the movie later!"

"Yeah!" Gar nodded, running off to wherever he had left his sneakers.

••

The car ride was rather silent. You all pulled up to a carnival, and you actually could feel excitement bubbling in your chest.

"Ow!" Jaime groaned. "Dude, did you have to bring the sword?"

"Preparedness is a prerequisite for victory."

"The gear stays in the car, Damian." Kori said. "Tonight we are to enjoy some mandatory fun."

You opened your door, and Gar met you there, holding in open for you and shutting the door once you were out. You and the team entered the carnival, getting tickets, and then regrouping.

Upbeat music played, and the smell of sugar was in the air.

"This is an opportunity for us to become for familiar with each other." Kori smiled.

"How much more familiar can we get? We've already seen Garfield lick himself." Jaime grumbled.

"As a dog?" Damian asked.

"I wish." Replied Raven.

"Ew!" You smacked Gar upside the head as he leaned forward with his tongue out, as if threatening to lick you.

You all walked over to the faris wheel, Jaime and Gar took the same car. You moved to go with Damian, but Raven didn't notice, and hopped in with him. You bit your lip, and turned on your heel, leaving the wheel and exploring around. You just scoped out the prize section, and bought a bucket of caramel kettle corn. When the team joined you, you were just opening the lid.

"Why weren't you with us, nueva amiga?" Jaime asked.

"Oh, I've been on a Faris Wheel before. Besides, I saw this and had to try it! Want some?"

You held the bucket to the team, and most everyone took some, excluding Damian. You internally scoffed, about to take the bucket back, until he reached over, and plucked a single kernel out, popping it into his mouth.

You stared at him for a moment, before turning back to the boys.

"Wanna win some prizes?" You asked.

Gar took first place in the duck shooting game, which put many boyfriends to shame and their girlfriend's eyes on your back. But Jaime knocked the strength bell out of the park, literally.

Both boys had a handful of tickets as you continued to explore the carnival.

"Hey," Jaime nudged Gar. "Five bucks says you cant make it up there."

Gar groaned. The game was a test of patience and balance. You had to climb a flimsy rope ladder. You looked to the boys.

"I'll do it."

"What?"

"Hold my popcorn." You shoved the almost empty bucket into Gar's hands, and walked over to the game. You handed the man a ticket, before walking over to the ladder. You put your hand on the base of it, giving it a test, before smirking.

You stepped up, putting both feet on the ladder, and beginning to walk towards the end, hands extended to keep your balance.

You slowly took one step forward at a time, and soon made it, hitting the buzzer. The game keeper looked at you, shocked, before handing you his biggest prize.

You carried the gigantic Panda around on your back, as you and the boys talked while trying to meet back up with everyone else.

"Oh, look!" Garfield pointed to a dancing game in excitement. "I love those!"

"Go ahead." You encouraged him.

Gar ran up, challenging the current champion of the game. He won with ease. In fact, he became the new champion, destroying any poor soul that dare challenge him. Even Jaime.

You smiled with sympathy as Jaime made his way down the steps, sweating like a pig.

"Free popcorn to anyone who can slay the beast."

"I can do it."

You all turned to Damian, brow's raised.

"You know how to dance?" Raven asked skeptically.

"I'm a quick study." He replied, making his way up to the game platform.

"Hmm, all right." Gar said as Damian joined him. "Hope you're a good loser."

They both made their way to their respective pads, beginning the match.

At first, Damian utterly sucked at best, but over time, he got into it, ending with Gar's defeat. The group all cheered, including you, who smiled at him. Despite your anger towards him, you were proud of him. He had done something new.

Gar hunched over the railing, panting as he and Damian exited the platform.

"Awesome, dude." Jaime congratulated.

Damian turned to you.

"Good job." You smiled.

He paused, not necessarily glaring at you, but looking at you with a look that said "you don't get to say that." You glared at him, and he walked past you, shoulder bumping yours.

"Yes, quite impressive." Kori agreed. "You we're very good too, Garfield."

Gar stumbled down the stairs, clearly out of it.

"Yeah, okay." He panted. "Whatever."

You heard screams in the distance, you all whipped around. An explosion soon followed, and you took a step back. Raven came into view, hitting the ground hard.

"Jesus!" You gasped. "We have to help her!"

"Titans, go!"

You ripped off your jacket and pants, revealing your suit underneath, and practically slapped on your mask, you reached to the sides of your belt, only to find it empty.

Shit. Your gear was in the car. Oh well.

You ran forward, attacking the demon like creatures, ignoring the pain in your bare fists. Starfire helped Raven as you, Blue Beetle, and Beast Boy all attacked the demons, trying your damned hardest to bring them down.

"Black Bird!" You heard someone call. "Head's up!"

You whipped around just in time as Robin threw you your staff. You gave him a nod of appreciation, and he returned it. You went back into battle, going one-on-one with a demon, managing to wear it down. When the time came, you electrocuted it with the end of your staff.

"That won't work!" Raven called. "They're like batteries!"

You turned back to the demon, only to see it regenerating.

"Then let's run them down." Starfire hissed.

You all began to simultaneously attack the demons, working together the best you could. Gar joined you at one point, in the form of a tiger, only to be thrown back by the demon.

"Asshole!" You yelled, attacking the demon even harder.

It got to the point where you were becoming exhausted. You were sent flying, crashing into a wall. You could hear someone yell your real name, not your hero name, but you couldn't tell who it was.

When you opened your eyes, Raven was attacking the demons. She slowly sunk to the ground after they had disappeared.

"Pájaro! Are you alright?" Jamie ran over to you, helping you up and throwing your arm around his shoulder.

"I'm good." You grunted. "I can stand."

Jaime reluctantly released you, and you both walked over to Raven.

"Whoa! Yeah, we kicked demon boot-ay!" Gar cheered. "Yeah, baby. Up top!" He said to Damian, hands raised. "Hit me."

Damian stared at him.

Raven slowly flew down to the ground, and Kori stepped forward to meet her.

"Robin said I didn't know enough about you. I think he was right."
