The next day my mother drove me to school. She parked the car and I said a hurried goodbye before getting out and walking towards the school.

I met Kira at the front steps, the girl giving me a bright smile.

"Morning," she said.

"Morning," I said back.

I was about to walk inside with Kira when I noticed my mother talking with another woman. I'd never seen her before, and I wondered who she could be.

"You coming?" Kira asked me.

"Yeah, I'm coming," I said, turning away from my mother and walking into school with Kira. We walked to our first class together, laughing and joking, before we quietened down because class started.

During class, my gaze strayed to Stiles, who was scribbling hastily in his book. I tried to see what he was writing and frowned when I found his arm in the way.

Our teacher for this class, a man we were supposed to call 'Coach' also noticed Stiles frantic scribbling.

"Stilinski, are you paying attention back there?" he asked.

Stiles ignored him and kept jotting down stuff I couldn't see. Kira and I glanced at each other in confusion before looking back at Stiles.

"Stilinski!" Coach said again, louder this time.

Stiles still didn't answer.

The boy I'd seen Stiles hanging out with earlier lightly shoved Stiles, but he wasn't deterred from his writing.

Finally, Coach blew his whistle and continued to do so until Stiles' head snapped up from his book

"Stilinski!" Coach yelled.

"Uh-huh?" Stiles managed to say.

He seemed confused and muddled, not to mention he was breathing hard.

"I asked you a question," Coach said, irritated.

"Uh, sorry Coach, what was it?" Stiles asked quietly.

"It was 'Stilinski, are you paying attention back there?'"

Stiles fidgeted with his pen as he looked up at Coach, twirling it in his hands. Once again, I tried to see what he had written down, but he moved his arm down so the only word I caught was 'wake'.

"Oh, well, I am now," he said.

Coach pointed at Stiles as he said, "stop reminding me why I drink..." he looked to the rest of the class before adding, "every night."

As Coach continued class, my eyes stayed on Stiles. For the rest of the class, he seemed out of it, and when it finally ended I went up to him.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked him as he walked out of class.

Stiles looked at me, a small smile gracing his lips before he spoke.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just didn't sleep very well last night."

I grimaced. "You must feel like crap today then."

Stiles' smile widened a bit at that, and a chuckle escaped him.

"To say the least," he said.

My lips curved upwards in my own smile at his words before we bid each other goodbye and went our separate ways.

I met up with Kira as she was walking and started talking to her. I had just laughed at something completely bizarre and hilarious that Kira said when I noticed my mother walking into a classroom with two other people.

"I'll meet up with you later, I gotta do something real quick," I told Kira, somewhat distractedly.

Kira looked at me funny before shrugging and telling me she'd save me a seat. I sent her a smile before parting ways and creeping up to the classroom.

I peeked through the window on the door and recognised the two other figures as Mr Yukimura, and the woman my mother was talking to today. Getting a closer look at the woman, I noticed she looked a lot like Kira and realised she must be her mother.

They seemed to be talking seriously with one another, a conversation I'd love to be able to overhear. Sadly, I couldn't hear much with the door closed, but I tried my best.

"-genes must be triggered my now," a voice said that I knew was my mother's.

"Any signs?" a male voice that belonged to Mr Yukimura asked.

The next few words were jumbled up, but I managed to catch an unfamiliar voice that must have been Kira's mum saying. "Does Y/n know?"

I frowned. Do I know what? Why is this woman that I have never met talking about me?

"We can't let them find out about this," my mother said ominously.

My frown deepened. Know about what? What the hell was happening here? And what did they want to hide from Kira and I?

I was distracted from my thoughts when I heard them walking towards the door and I quickly ran away, hiding around a corner.

I was so confused. Why were they talking to each other? How did they even know one another? And why were they so keen on making sure Kira and I didn't find out about something?

I sighed, deciding to ignore the strange thing I just witnessed and instead find Kira and eat lunch. I was walking outside trying to find Kira when I spotted her sitting on a table with Stiles and some of his other friends, talking animatedly.

"...and you can be visited by peaceful or wrathful deities," Kira finishes.

A boy I've never met twirled a pen in his hand, looking at Kira sceptically as he said, "wrathful deities. And what are those?"

Kira thinks for a second before answering, "like, demons," with a smile.

Stiles raises his eyebrows at the answer, sighing dramatically.

"Demons... why not?"

I took a deep breath, gathering all the courage I had, before walking towards the group. Stiles is the first to notice me and a big grin spreads across his face as he greets me.

"Y/n! Hey," he said enthusiastically.

Kira's, along with everyone else's, head turned towards me and she smiled, motioning for me to take the seat next to her at the end of the table.

Hesitantly, I took the seat, my heart beating at a mile per minute from being in front of all these new, unfamiliar people.

"And you are?" the girl I spotted on my first day asked, her strawberry blonde hair curled around her finger.

"Uh, I'm Y/n," I said awkwardly. "I'm friends with Stiles and Kira. I'm new."

The girl nods slowly, her attention still on me. "I'm Lydia."

The rest of the kids at the table followed Lydia's lead and introduced themselves, somewhat breaking the ice. There was Isaac, Allison, Lydia, Scott, and of course Kira and Stiles.

"Hold on, if there are different progressive states, then what's the last one?" the other girl I spotted on my first day called Allison asked.

Everyone turned back to Kira, waiting for her answer.

"Death. You die," Kira stated simply.

There was a heavy silence after her words.

"Sounds delightful," I muttered.

I heard, rather than saw, Stiles smile and let out a little chuckle.

Lydia looked between Stiles and me with her eyes narrowed like she was thinking, before the bell went, and everyone started getting up and leaving.

As I walked away, Lydia walked up to me and started walking next to me.

"So, how do you know Stiles?" she asked.

"Oh, we used to be best friends when we were younger until I moved away," I said, "and now that I'm back, we've started talking again."

"Well, I think you and Stiles look cute together," Lydia said.

My eyes widened and I gaped at her, feeling myself get flustered.

"What?" I spluttered.

She didn't know about my tiny crush on him, did she? No, of course she didn't; I didn't even know her. So, then why did she say that?

Lydia just smirked at my reaction before bidding me goodbye and leaving.

Trying to forget that embarrassing encounter, I found Kira by her locker and walked wit her to class. We spent the rest of the day together, and as we left the school building after last period I was about to ask her something when I noticed her staring at Scott, one of Stiles' friends. Staring longingly at Scott.

My lips curled into a smirk when I realised Kira had a crush on Scott.

"Fancy him, do you?" I teased.

Kira's head swivelled towards mine and her cheeks were red from blushing.

"W-What? No!" She denied, crossing her arms.

"Sure," I said, not at all convinced, and Kira blushed even more. Being the kind person I am, I decided to change the subject. "Do you want to go to my place for the night since its Friday?"

"Yeah, I'd love to," she said with a smile.

I grinned and we walked away from school, not noticing the boy in the jeep staring after me.
