Robin

The Bat Signal hung in the air, perched on the clouds.

"Jim." You greeted, and the commissioner turned to see both you and Batman.

"Oh..." He gasped. "Is there any way you two could show up without raising my blood pressure?"

"No." You smiled, as both you and Batman jumped off the ledge you two were perched on.

Both you and Bruce turned expectantly, and Robin appeared on the same ledge.

"Another one?" Gordon asked.

"New and improved." You winked to Jim.

"How's Ubu doing?" Batman asked, finally deciding to get to business.

"He's in ICU." Gordon replied. "Still under sedation. We searched his place. Nothing much there." You shot Robin a look. "But we did find one interesting item."

Just as the commissioner pulled the item out of his jacket, Robin snatched it from Gordon. In return, you snatched it from him.

"Hey!" He complained as you handed it to Batman.

"Whose number is it?" Batman asked.

"It's a phone sex..." Gordon's eyes flickered to not you, but Robin. "A phone chat line."

Robin turned to you, and you smirked seductively, sticking your tongue out as far as it would go, and made a circle with your pointer finger and thumb, before jabbing your other pointer finger into the circle. Robin glared.

"But that's not the interesting part." Jim continued. "It's what's written on the other side."

Batman flipped the paper, and stared at it for a good minute.

••

You found yourselves at the old Gotham Coliseum. It was absolutely pouring, and you weren't sure how much longer your cloak would protect you from sickness. Thunder crashed overhead, making you shudder.

"Dad used to bring me here for ball games." Batman muttered, breaking the silence. "Sometimes, afterward, we'd go to the amusement park."

"And now history repeats itself." Robin replied.

"How sweet." You said sarcastically. "I'm drenched. When are we moving?"

"Exactly what I was thinking." With that, Robin jumped off the railing you three had been perched on, and ran across the wet wooden walkway.

You jumped down, and grabbed him by the shoulder, he flipped around, and raised his hand, as if he was going to strike you. But stopped, and simply shrugged your hand off him.

"We made a deal, Robin." You reminded him. "You're back-up, and this isn't some training simulation. We answer to Batman, understood?"

Robin grit his teeth, as if he wasn't used to being told what to do, but he remained silent, and unclenched his jaw, almost like he respected you. He looked into the whites of your domino mask as he spoke.

"Yes, understood." He meant it.

Batman joined you. He held out a pair of binoculars to Robin. "Think before you act."

Robin looked into the binocs. "Surveillance cameras."

"Somebody is watching." The Bat mused.

"Very well." Robin turned to Batman. "You lead."

Batman almost smiled. He would have to remind himself to praise you for keeping Robin so level headed.

Batman led you through a small tunnel, which definitely tested your patience, but you found yourselves in a small closet. Batman pressed his eye against the small crack in the door, and watched as two guards made their rounds.

"How did you know this was here?" Robin asked, closing the hatch as you finally wiggled out, still mad you had been the last one to both enter and exit the tunnel.

"I make it my business to know." Batman responded.

"We can jump them." Robin said, excitement in his voice.

Batman was clearly about to correct Robin, yet he looked to you, giving you a look that said "you do it."

"No," you finally said. "We don't know how many guards there are. It would be foolish to launch an attack in territory we can't use to our advantage. We hide in the darkness Robin. We don't murder in the light. Our main goal is to find Langstrom, and quietly."

You expected an argument or at least a grumble, but Robin simply nodded. He wasn't happy that you were correcting him, but he was willing to be corrected.

Batman gave you a simple nod of approval, and opened to the door, signaling for both you and Robin to exit. You all raced across the hallway, careful not to alert the ninjas.

"Down there." Batman said, hovering over some railing of a stair case.

He grabbed Robin, and you turned to Robin, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. You were to busy to look at his expressions as Robin hesitatingly wrapped his arm around your waist, securing you to his body.

You all slid down the center of the winding stairwell, and hit the floor with a gentle thump. You immediately released Robin and peaked through a vent. You reached out, removing it, before motioning for both Batman and Robin to follow you. You began to crawl down the compact space, at least glad you weren't the caboose this time.

You found where they kept Langstrom, and entered the room silently.

"Dr. Langstrom." Batman greeted. Langstrom jumped up.

"You?" He asked.

"You have to come with us." Batman ordered.

"No. No, no..." Langstrom stammered, backing up. "I-I-I can't." In his haste, Langstrom hit whatever he had been working on, effectively sending it to the ground. "Deathstroke has my family." He finally confessed.

You took that as your cue. Batman wasn't a good person at comforting.

"Dr. Langstrom," you began, stepping forward. "I'm Black Bird. I need you to cooperate. It'll be best for all of us, including your family. How about you tell me why you're so worried about your family?"

"He says he'll kill them if I don't do what he wants." Langstrom whimpered.

"It's a classic hostage situation. Nothing we haven't seen before." You assured him. "Please, tell me what you're working on."

"I...I can't!"

"Okay. Where is Deathstroke?" You asked again.

"I don't know! Please, you have to leave!"

Before you could try to convince him Langstrom you were only trying to help, before Robin leapt forward.

"I'll make you talk!" He cried.

"Robin, no!" Batman called, but it was too late. Robin had shoved you out of the way, and practically threw Langstrom across the room and into the hallway.

The noise alerted many ninjas, and you pulled out your steel Escrima Sticks , ready to fight. You hit a ninja over the head, knocking him to the ground. Then, you connected your sticks, making a staff and stacking many ninjas, deflecting their swords. When the time came, you twisted grip on the staff, and two large spear-like points emerged from either end. You got into a sword fight with one talented ninja, but still floored him. You turned to Batman and Robin, who were also done.

Robin sneered. "That was fun. Which way?" He asked, still smiling.

Many more ninjas appeared in the door way, all prepared for a battle.

"Time to retreat, boys!" You chirped, hoping they would get the message.

"I'm no coward." Robin stated, getting into a fighting stance.

"Don't be stupid!" You scolded him and threw your arm over his neck, yanking him into you as Batman set off some smoke bombs.

You all disappeared into the smoke, and made your way down a hallway and into the grassy playing field. It was still raining heavily, making you shudder.

Batman suddenly slowed to a stop.

"What's wrong?" You called behind you, slowing to a jog.

"Shh!" He ordered. "Listen."

You all looked up, to find animalistic creatures hanging off the ceiling.

"What are those?" You asked.

The creatures unveiled themselves from their wings, screeching.

"Man-bats..." Batman muttered, shocked.

Immediately, the man-bats flew down from the ceiling of coliseum, encasing you, Batman, and Robin.

You could hear Batman throwing the man-bats off him with pure brute force, and you could hear Robin trying to attack other ones.

As for you? You were trapped. You held one man-bat just inches away from your face as it screeched at snapped at you, trying to bite your nose off, while others pinned your legs and torso to the ground.

"God... dammit!" You strained out, your arms becoming tired. You grit your teeth, desperately trying to keep the man-bat a safe distance away, but your body betrayed you as the man-bat began to close in.

"Robin!" You suddenly cried, and not moments after, you could feel the creatures being torn away from your body. They clawed at your flesh as they were peeled away, but thankfully. Your fishnets were reinforced. Your skimpy costume had some perks.

With your legs now free, you slipped them under the man-bat on top of you, and kicked him off, putting what little energy you had left into your two legs. Turns out, it was a lot of energy, since the man-bat went flying.

You rolled over onto your stomach, trying to catch your breath in what little moment of peace you had.

"You're welcome." Robin smirked, crossing his arms.

"Why, I ought to!-" you began, flipping around to glare at him, before Batman interrupted.

"Move, you two!" He yelled, running past.

You all grabbed your grappling hooks, and flew up to the top of the coliseum. After landing on the upper floor, you and the boys took off. The man-bats flew after you, and you all took turns kicking them to the ground as you continued to run.

At one point, Robin jumped onto a man-bat and stabbed it in the back, literally, before using his grappling hook to swing across the baseball field.

"Robin!" You called. "Don't!-"

"Keep moving!" Batman yelled to you, running faster.

Batman then grabbed you and swung across the field himself. You both outstretched a foot, hitting a man-bat into the score board, before making a perfect landing next to Robin. But now, you were trapped.

Man-bats closed in on you, and you stepped back, trying to figure out what to do.

Batman suddenly swung a baterang at the coliseum ceiling.

"Okay, now what?" Robin asked, confused. But you had gotten the message.

"Hold on!" You ordered him as you ran to him, grappling across the coliseum. Robin held onto you with a death grip as you and Batman flew across the coliseum.

Batman detonated the baterang just as the man-bats flew past. You all landed on top of the coliseum, and Batman looked down into it with a mournful look.

You turned.

"We got a problem!" You yelled, pointing in the direction Robin had run off to.

"Stupid kid.." Batman muttered.
