CHAPTER 15 MY WATSON
when the bell soon rang, everyone sprang to their feet and dashed to the cafeteria. the teacher did her best to remind them of their assignment due the next day, but she groaned when she noticed that all of the students had vanished.
meanwhile, heizou went out of his classroom, oblivious to aether and venti's gazes. the two members of the host club began pursuing the auburn-haired boy who was singing a tune as he walked through the halls.
aether gave venti a strange look, perplexed as to why he now wanted to spy on him, "are you envious that he's receiving all the attention?" aether inquired, as the two of them crept behind a wall.
"i'm seeing if he's worthy to join the host club!" venti said, beaming too loudly, and was immediately shushed by aether.
before venti could bicker against aether for attempting to silence him, the two fell silent as they saw heizou approaching the dog boy, gorou.
"gorou! you're also here!" heizou shouts, tossing an arm around gorou, almost giving the male a heart attack. his teal-blue eyes widening at the presence of the wanna-be detective after years of not seeing him,
"w-what are you doing here?!!" gorou exclaimed, allowing heizou to draw him closer to his body. "of course, to see y/n! she barely replies to my messages, so i transferred here so i can see her every day." heizou smiled at the thought
when heizou preferred y/n as she/her, aether and venti, who were listening in and spying on them, felt their mouths drop to the floor. the two exchanged puzzled glances right away. as if they had learned victoria's secret.
while going through the hallways, albedo, kazuha, and xiao observed venti and aether spying on something, prompting kazuha to approach them and inquire, when suddenly-
heizou kept on talking, not letting gorou answer. "i actually will not excuse you for taking y/n's first kiss." making gorou's ears become red and his cheeks forming a red tint from the memory.
coincidentally, scaramouche happened to be passing by gorou and heizou at the time, his ears catching up on his roommate's name from the two. bringing him to a halt in his tracks.
"it was an accident!" gorou exclaimed, "and you're lucky enough to date her..." heizou frowned as gorou's eyes shifted to the ground. fortunately, the three's relationship remained intact even after the two boys were over heels in love with the h/c-haired girl.
throughout middle school, they were the most inspiring trio.
venti became aware of kazuha's presence behind them, and he gasped in surprise. causing the boy to scream in surprise and collide with aether, who staggered and fell to the ground, followed by venti, who tripped.
kazuha tried to grab venti's arm to save him from falling, but he only fell with them. the noise drew the attention of gorou and heizou, who paused in their conversation to divert their gaze to the three men lying on the ground, wincing in pain.
scaramouche face-palmed, as xiao and albedo emerged from behind the wall. "you know it's illegal to spy on someone, let alone eavesdrop," heizou frowned as he understood what they were doing.
"we're not! we simply happened to pass by!" venti argued as he helped kazuha off his back and to his feet, quietly pitying aether who remained on the ground.
but, before heizou could respond, xiao cut to the chase, asking, "how did you know y/n?" as his golden eyes bored into heizou's.
heizou gave xiao a cold stare, "it's none of your concern, emo." heizou snarled, immediately grating on xiao's nerves. "now, now, we should just ask them kindly," aether got up from the ground and moved in between the two, not wanting them to start a fight.
the uncomfortable air between them didn't relax until gorou recognized aether and exclaimed, "aren't you one of y/n's friends?" drawing everyone's attention to them.
"yeah, we're her club members." aether replied, then, at that point, albedo funneled in the discussion "we're speculating you're likewise her friends too?"
heizou responded with a nod, no longer caring to glance at xiao, and he continued to speak, "where is she?"
as you sat down on one of the benches, a cool wind began to blow across your body. then you started sneezing as if someone was talking about you, but you quickly shook it off.
you then opened your bento box, relishing the opportunity to have your lunch alone. oblivious to a maple leaf from the tree fluttering in the air. you were too preoccupied with your meal to notice that a maple leaf had fallen on your head.
but suddenly you felt a presence behind you and turned around to see those familiar olive green eyes staring back at you. this close, like the first encounter with him. as he grinned at you, his lips were only a few centimeters from yours.
heizou carefully grabbed the maple leaf from your tresses, "i found you, my watson."
unbeknownst to them, aether was preventing venti from flinging himself at heizou, disliking the fact that they were so near to each other and gorou chose to leave them alone, not wanting his heart to ache again.
once he recalled the one memory that remained vivid in his mind, a scowl appeared on gorou's lips.
"hey, gorou, have you fallen in love with someone?" heizou questioned as he sipped his boba tea, without bothering to look at gorou's astonished expression because he had anticipated it.
"where is this coming from?! don't tell me you genuinely like someone..." gorou said, expecting heizou's response, but it was quickly confirmed as heizou's lips curved into a soft smile.
"maybe i do..."
it was obvious who heizou had fallen for because the two of them were usually hanging out with y/n, making them a trio that spent a lot of time together.
gorou was always aware of heizou's stares towards her and how he would often appear out of nowhere and hand her a lollipop. he wasn't also blind to the fact that y/n generally admires heizou from afar even not knowing herself.
it hurt him to see his crush fall in love with his best friend, but as long as she was happy, he was pleased as well.
he felt immediate mixed feelings when he found that they had broken up. gorou had never gotten over his feelings for the h/c-haired girl, and he was glad to know that he still had a chance with y/n.
while gorou was lost in contemplation, heizou walked behind him and stated, "i know you like her, too, but i never knew before, so please accept my apologies for confessing to her."
"it's fine, it already happened, and i'm sure y/n would never look at me the same way i do to her."
