Chapter 3
Carrie’s P.O.V
I woke up to Caden crying softly in his basinet beside my bed. I sat up and glanced at the clock 3:00 am, he usually sleeps through the night but, the town was getting hit by thunderstorms making him cry at the loud noises interrupting him from sleeping.
I picked him up softly and began to rock him; my presence began to soothe him. I stared down at him; he had his father’s eyes the beautiful dark brown that stared right into his soul. He was asleep in a matter of minutes and I set him back into the basinet. I waited for a few minutes as it thundered to see if he would wake again. He didn’t stir as the thunder boomed so I laid back down to try and fall asleep.

I pulled up to the house earlier than I was used to. I had got finished early today, I was glad I couldn’t wait to see Chad. We hadn’t been able to see each other this week a lot because of our work schedules. I walked into the house and set my purse and keys on the counter, the house was cooler than normal the windows were open letting the cooler night in.
Chad was probably in his study working on stuff for work. I walked down the hallway leading there. I stopped at his study and poked my head in. I was so excited to see him. He wasn’t in there; I was a little disappointed, he must be in our bedroom I thought.
I headed down the end of the hallway to the last door. That’s when I heard the giggling, I froze. He must be watching T.V. I thought as I gently opened the door.
A gasp escaped my lips at the sight in front of me. My heart was wrenched out; I felt my body go numb as I was faced with my husband in bed with another woman.
I turned and ran from the house.

I sat up quickly as the tears came like they always did every time I had that dream and relived what had happened.
I didn’t understand. Why? I was so happy and he must have not of been. I had walked away and not looked back; my heart broke even more when I received the divorce papers in the mail just a few weeks after.
He didn’t answer my calls and he never ran after me. He willingly let me go and that broke my heart even more.
A month after I had signed the divorce papers. I began to gain weight and I was sick every morning, I thought it was the divorce but when I went to the doctors I had found that I was pregnant. That little life inside me got me through the divorce.
The pain was still there but, I knew that I couldn’t turn back and I had forgiven him. He wanted nothing to do with Caden after I found out I was pregnant and from then on I turned away and I wasn’t looking back. I was going to be the best mom I could possibly be.
It was around 6 now so I got up and headed down the stairs. Andrea’s house was silent and I wanted to be quiet so I wouldn’t wake her up. I went and sat on the couch but, sleep over came me again.
I woke up the sun shining in the window; I sat up to see Andrea rocking Caden beside me.
“Hey, I didn’t want to wake you. I changed his diaper and feed him; he just fell asleep a few minutes ago”
“Thanks, Andrea. I really appreciate it”
“Are you still having the dreams?”
“Yeah, not as much but, they are still there”
She gave me a sympathetic smile and put Caden in my arms. I rocked him back and forth as he softy slept.
“Carrie, my family is coming into town today. My Dad just called to let me know, I was going to offer if they wanted to stay here since I have a lot of room. Is that okay?”
“Andrea, you don’t have to ask me it’s your house. I am a guest” I said laughing.
“I just wanted to make sure you were ok with it”
“I am totally fine with it”
“Ok, good because I guess they will be flying in around 6 tonight”
“Is this your Dad’s brother?”
“Yep, he has wanted them to visit for a while and they just now accepted the offer”
I hadn’t met this part of Andrea’s family. She has mentioned them a few times when she talked about her childhood but, they were always stories of when she was really little.
“There is my Uncle Allen and my Aunt Kate and their daughter Sophie and her husband Chris and her brother Tristan” she waggled her eyebrows at the last part.
“What?” I asked confused.
“Tristan is right around your age and he is single as far as I know”
I sighed, I wasn’t ready to date and I didn’t know if I would ever be ready. Who would want a girl with a new born baby?
“I don’t know Andrea, it’s just too early for that”
“I know, I was just seeing. I want you to be happy again”
Caden moved in my arms and I rocked him to keep him asleep.
“Does your cousin Sophie have any kids?”
“She is due at the end of August. This will be good for her; you can tell her what it’s like and maybe help her with some of her questions”
“Yeah, I would have loved to have someone there when I was pregnant to answer all of my questions”
Andrea handed me some eggs and I set Caden in his basinet while I ate.
“So, I forgot to ask you how is it going with Nate?”
“Were good, he has been acting really weird lately. I will ask him if I can come over and he never wants to go to his place”
Nate and Andrea had been dating since 10th grade in high school and he had introduced me to Chad. Nate was a great guy and I knew him and Andrea would get married one day hopefully soon.
“Maybe, work is stressing him out”
“I don’t know, I have a feeling it’s something else”
“Andrea, ask him about it”
She nodded, “I was planning asking him when he took me out for dinner tomorrow night”
Suddenly she sat up.“You want to go shopping today? We should get a cute dress for when my family comes in tonight to wear to dinner”
“Dinner?”
“Yes, we are having dinner at my Dad’s house”
“I don’t want to intrude, I mean I not part of the family”
“Yes, you are. Now come on, Caden has been fed and changed and he can come to”
“Alright”

5 hours later, I had gotten way more than a dress and so had Andrea. She had decided to buy me some new clothes and Caden new clothes and herself new clothes.
We were heading back to her house now to get ready to go for dinner at her Dad’s. Caden was sound asleep; at least he was getting a nap before he got to meet a whole bunch of new people. The Park family had become a second family to me and they were excited to meet Caden.
“Let me do your hair, please” Andrea said as we pulled up to her house.
“Alright, I don’t want to look to dressed up though”
We made our way upstairs and into Andrea’s bedroom her carrying the bags and me carrying Caden in his carrier.
She sat me down at her dresser and began to work on my hair; we only had an hour to get ready before the guests arrived at her Dad’s. I looked at myself in the mirror my green eyes shown full framed by thick lashes and my brown hair stopped just after my chest. Andrea set to curling the ends of my hair and along the edges of my face. My make up was simple a little mascara, she finished after about 15 minutes and I looked at my reflection. My hair looked gorgeous and I felt pretty for the first time in a while.
“Andrea, thank you”
“You look so pretty Carrie”
“Thanks to you”
“No, that’s all you”
I grabbed my dress out of the bag it was white and stopped just above my knee. The top was short sleeved and the back was lace showing the top of back. The front had lace along the chest. I didn’t look like a mom, I felt like one though as I looked over at Caden asleep in his carrier.
Andrea finished her looked a half an hour later. Her curly hair was now straight and her dress was green and strapeless.
“Andrea, you look hot”
“Thanks, so do you baby mama”
I laughed “Your funny. I look fat”
“No, you don’t. Remember Carrie your still only 20 and your figure snapped back like this” she said snapping her fingers.
I laughed again; she was making me feel better already.
She handed me little white sandals and she slipped on black wedges. We headed toward her car, I carried the sleeping Caden in his carrier.
The ride there was short and we were soon pulling up to her Dad’s gorgeous house. I was a little nervous, what would her extended family think of me not having a husband and having a new born?
“Carrie don’t be nervous, they aren’t like that”
“I can’t help it; they will probably think I am too young to have a baby”
I uttered a silent prayer for God to give me strength as we attended this dinner.
We got out of the car and headed up the steps. The door opened to reveal Mr. Parks, he smiled at Andrea and stared down at Caden and back up at me.
“Carrie! We have missed seeing you! Is this Caden?”
“Yes, this is Caden”
“He is so cute, he looks just like you” Mrs. Parks said standing next to her husband.
“Thank you”
“Come on in, Corey should be here any minute with the family”
Andrea and I came in and the house was still the same from when we would have sleepovers and spend the night watching horror flicks.
“There here” I heard Mrs. Parks call.
Caden started to stir and cry, I headed up to Andrea’s room he probably had to be changed. I could hear the door open downstairs and laughter as Andrea’s family flooded in. I changed Caden’s diaper and feed him. He didn’t fuss anymore but, he was tired he had been awake for the whole shopping trip.
I watched as he fell asleep and I decided to bring him down after he got a little nap. I headed down the stairs to hear the laughter come from the family room.
I turned the corner and Andrea smiled at me as they all turned their attention to me.
“This is my best friend Carrie” Andrea said introducing me.
“Hi” I said shyly looking around at everyone. Then my eyes landed on the guy standing in the corner. I sucked in some air, my heart starting pumping like crazy. What was wrong with me? Our gaze locked and I could see he felt it to.
