Channelle's POV
"Your exams are around the corner" Mom sat down on the kitchen chair staring at me
"Yes ma"
"You don't look prepared or did you forget about it?"
I laughed nervously, "How can I forget my exams!"
I forgot about it at some point
"Something has been going on lately" she pointed out
"What?" I sat on the counter
"Something is wrong with you Channelle"
"Mom, trust me I'm fine! You can even ask Maris she'll testify to that"
I'm not sure about that but let's give it a try
"Are you being bullied? Or there's something wrong with your school that you don't like?"
"Nah! The school is fine, everything is fine! I'm fine!"
"You don't look fine to me, always talking to yourself." She looked concerned
"Erm," I scratched my head "humans do that"
"I wonder where you got your facts from. Last time you said something about your school being weird"
"Did I?" I laughed it off
"Yes you did, is it still weird to you?"
"The feeling is gone" I smiled
"Okay but I know something is wrong with you. You better start reading"
I nodded my head.
"Something smells nice!" Uncle Harry walked into the kitchen with Maris trailing behind him
"Harry and Maris set the table please" Mom dished out the food
"Hey, Channelle! Are you okay?" I jolted out from my thoughts
"Yes!" I smiled, "hope you guys know how to set the table because that rat doesn't know how to"
"How dare you!" Maris thundered
"Oh shut up!" I dusted my dress " I'll be back in a minute"
"Nice one, Channelle" Maris clapped
"Channelle! Come down now!" Maris yelled like someone without respect
"I think it's high time you start adding some respect to that name" I looked into her eyes
"No be only" she turned her face immediately
"Are you guys done?" Mom asked with a bored expression while Uncle Harry was trying hard not to laugh
"Yes" I sat down
"Where's Dad?" Maris asked pulling a chair out
"He wouldn't be joining us"
"Okay! Let's eat" Harry said rubbing his hands
"Chill Uncle, you're still going to eat the food " Maris chuckled
"So what class are you in?" He asked referring to Maris
"Ss1"
"Wow! And your mouth can run like this" I muttered
"That's good" he nodded, taking a spoon into his mouth " How's your school?"
"Oh, My God!" Maris squealed, " it's so nice!!"
yeah, nice indeed
"I can see you love it, what's the name?"
"Great Height Academy"
He started coughing immediately, Mom stretched a cup of water to him while I rushed to him patting his back
"Sorry," I said repeatedly
"Great Height Academy" he muttered under his breath, I was able to hear since I was close to him
I gasped
Does he know something about it? I laughed
He can't but he can! I looked at him suspiciously
"Heys! Aunty!" Maris snapped her fingers at me
"What!?"
"Are you okay? You just laughed, when nobody said anything funny. Are you alright?"
"Help me to ask oh," Mom said dishing more food on her plate
I noticed Uncle wasn't on the chair " where's Uncle Harry?"
"He said he has a call to make, so I'm guessing he's in his room"
"I'll be back" I went upstairs, walked towards his room and stopped at his door, since I'm good at eavesdropping I'll do just that. I leaned to the door trying to pick up words,
Is he even making a call?
"Eavesdropping?" Maris whispered leaning close to me
"Shuuuu"
"Why are you eavesdropping?"
"How is this your business?"
"Well it becomes my business the moment I go in to tell him what I'm seeing and what I saw"
I turned to her " I'm just trying to see if I can pick up his words"
Rolling her eyes, she said, " Yeah I know, that's why we eavesdrop but why?"
"Didn't you find it a little strange that he coughed when you mentioned the name of our school?"
"I didn't, anything could have happened to make him cough. We are on this again, aren't we?" She held her temple
"On what?" I asked totally confused
"On this your erm what do you call it... your weird feeling thing"
"I'm going to my room" I turned in my room direction, walking hastily.
I need to move on with the second plan, I can feel my death closeby
Scratch that, I ain't feeling any death
I started working on the second plan, mehn! Maybe I'll become a detective someday. I sat on the floor leg crossed, books scattered everywhere. I just finished wrapping the last package, I pushed it to where the rest are.
"Channelle!" Mom knocked on my door
"Yes mom" I replied from inside, she mustn't see me and this room like this
She knocked harder, I think she wants me to open the door "Mom I'm reading!" I yelled for her to hear
"Okay, I'll be going out with Maris we'll be back soon. Take care" I heard her footsteps retreating
"Bye! Buy something oh"
Okay! That went smoothly. I stared at the wrapped packages in front of me.
The second plan is in motion.
It's a gift which I'm going to give out a week to my exams, more like a death note. Everybody around me- friends at school including Jayden, Maris and my parents too has to receive this gift, but I need the help of some girls.
I need to find out what's going on with Uncle Harry. I opened my door slowly trying not to make any sound.
Thank God the door didn't make any sound
If I was to close the door in the normal way, he would know I was out and probably hang up if he was talking to a mysterious person.
I tiptoed to his room and leaned on the door, I think he's making a call now " shut up! Just shut your mouth!!" I heard him yell
"Look, you need to hasten whatever you're doing" he continued
"Are you alright!? I think the target knows already, so you need to hasten it up!"
You rascal!!!! I trusted you! I tried to control my anger,
if you barge into his room you're drawing your death closer, my subconscious reminded me
"Look I'm not going to be here for long, I'll just stay a little bit longer to gather some information. I'm sure nobody would suspect anything and by the way, the year isn't finished so we have to do what we have to do. Okay, later" I heard the phone beeped, he ended the call
I tiptoed back to my room in anger, I banged the door loudly.
I paced tho and fro trying to reason, to even think I had someone with me,
Pain,
Betrayal,
Numbness,
Anger,
Tiredness.
That was all I felt, I slid to the floor I just couldn't hold the tears any longer, they came out flowing like a river.
I need to make that call quick
I cried myself to sleep.
Vanessa's POV
Scrolling through the messages, opinions, posts and comments of students on the School Website made me angry, I hissed loudly flinging my phone on the bed, "Ehen, why do people think I used a charm on Jayden?" I asked the 2 pairs of eyes staring at me
"Well, you know-"
"I don't know anything," I said cutting Precious off
"See let me tell you, don't listen to whatever anybody is saying. You have Jayden and that's all" Kachi said
Pulling a pillow to her lap Precious said, "I wonder if you used charm"
Kachi eyed her "what kind of rubbish talk is that?"
"No no, let's face the truth. Jayden and his crew can't even stand you talking to them and all of a sudden you asked him out and he agrees. Ah! Your charm must be very strong oh" she slapped her thighs
"Look at your mouth, talking like parrot, yen yen yen. I never asked Jayden out, he asked me out!" I clarified
"You reason it!" Precious tapped Kachi, " no offence though but it's not like you have the thinking ability to reason it but just try. Imagine, someone you've been trying to get to date you since Ss1 oh, didn't date you, it's now! In Ss3 he's coming to date you. Omo something is wrong oh!" Precious concluded
I adjusted my blouse and smiled "I can only say it's God, maybe he finally got to realize what he has been missing all this while"
"Yes oh! It's God" Kachi high fived me while she gave precious a bad look " what about Channelle, what are we going to do with her, we still need to teach her a lesson" Kachi reminded us
"Ah-ah! Sometimes ehn, I think you're the one who wants Channelle gone than Vanessa does. Why do you hate her!?" Precious asked looking at Kachi in disdain
"Precious, warn yourself oh! who said I hate her now? Better talk to me with respect I'm older than you" Kachi pointed her finger at her
"Shut up! Respect? Come and collect na." She turned to me "See, anything you're planning to do to Channelle, I'm out of it. Don't even add me in any plan of yours. If you're not careful Kachi would put you in trouble, I feel she's a serial killer" she whispered the last part
"It's your sister that's a serial killer!" Kachi yelled at her showing her five fingers Waka. I think she heard her
"Stop shouting like a madwoman, Vanessa I'm going to my Father's house. You can call me when you're not thinking of killing somebody" She closed the door, I heard her footsteps going down the stairs,
"Precious isn't our friend anymore," She said pouring water from Jug into the glass cup that was sitting there all through watching the soap opera
"Like she has ever been your friend" I sat on the bed, staring at her every move; from taking the cup to her mouth to gulping the water and watching how her throat moved up and down.
After keeping the glass cup on the tray, she noticed I was staring at her "What?!"
"Are you a serial killer?" I asked still staring
"Are you kidding me!? I'm not"
"Okay but you look like one," I told her
She scoffed, "you're not serious"
"We won't do anything to Channelle as long as she doesn't disturb my boyfriend"
"Hmm, people that have boyfriend" she smiled
Her phone rang," I'll take this call outside"
"Why can't you make it here? Abi is he the one?" I teased coming closer to her
She laughed "of course not. I'll be right back" she rushed to the balcony shutting the door behind her.
I looked at her from the window, she was talking in hush terms still trying to cover her mouth. I could hear her if I tried to hear her, maybe I should who knows I can pick up words to tease her with. I dropped the curtains I was holding and opened the door a little bit, " Yeah, what did they say?" She asked over the phone
"Okay, that's good. Everything is fine here"
She laughed " I'm trying my best it's not easy though. I saw the text message" she continued
"Why is he delaying? It's over three months now and nothing has happened!" She sounds a bit angry
"Our exams are starting next week! When does he plan to pull it off?"
She laughed, "Okay fine, He's the boss after all. I'm keeping an eye on her"
She continued laughing while I close the door gently. I rested on the door, "who's her boss? And who is she keeping her eye on?" I asked rhetorically
She came in immediately, seeing the smile on her face made me forget about the questions.
"I have to go" She picks up her bag
"Ooh that guy right" I teased her
She smiled, "you're really not serious!" she waved
"See you in school!" I waved back.
I bounced on the bed trying to get comfortable when my phone started ringing "Where did I fling this phone too?" I stood up and started searching for it "Found you!"
I stared at the screen in happiness, it was Jayden who called. I'm calling him back, guess I'll see you guys later.
