Chapter 112 - The Trickster

The field before me shined like gems in the light. A rainbow of colors bathed the area into a huge rainbow field. I kneeled down and rested my hand against her resting place.

"I tried to find the most beautiful place on the planet for you." I smiled. "Honestly you'd probably say it was missing something. The cool weird factor."

I went into my back pocket and pulled out her journal. Then I flipped over the pages, gazing at each fantastical sketch she made of magical plants. I came to a stop at one of the first. It was a horrid drawing of us when we we're kids. Me, her, and Stryder. It was us three in this huge winding treehouse. Right on top of a cliff that overlooked a huge river below.

"I thought this was the stupidest idea ever." I chuckled and set the book down. "I mean seriously, how can I game way out here?"

I dug my fingers into the dirt and I hoped I didn't push deep enough to touch her corpse. Just the idea made my stomach churn, but I just took a breath and focused. The ground below me started to rumble, the flowers scattered to the wind and painted the sky. The ground erupted and a huge tree sprung out from beneath. It grew taller and taller, soon towering over me like I was an ant. The leaves were bright pink and the bark was a light purple, just like she colored it.

"I'll have to get Bean to shape it, but it's here." I mumbled and stood up straight.

Suddenly I felt the air nip at my skin and the wind began to pick up. The petals from the flowers and leaves danced in the wind and coiled around me. A laughter crept it's way in and circled me.

"My child, do you enjoy the new spell I gifted you?"

"Yeah, it's nice." I replied.

"I come bearing another gift." She whispered.

"Oh yeah? What's the occasion? Wizard Christmas?"

"You have exceeded my expectations, you are by far my favorite. You've given me and my sister such an entertaining show."

I looked down at my left arm and gazed over the numerous slash marks that were etched into my skin. Yeah, entertainment...

The ground rumbled beneath my feet and a skeleton's hands popped up from the ground. I blinked a few times and casually stepped back. Letting the Skeleton crawl out from it's hell. Something gray was on the ends of it's fingers and it held it out to me.

"What is that?"

I reached out and grabbed the suspicious clothing. I ran my fingers through it and something silver dropped from it.

"This is something from Jack's youth. I imagined you'd like something from your old master, you seemed fond of him." She said.

A warmth rose inside of my chest. Sending a tingle down to my fingers. I looked over the clothing and noticed it was a jacket. With a white skeleton on the back, it was holding its chin and had pink petals falling out of his mouth.

'Don't forget everything you worked for. No matter what happens, I still believe you can become the man you want to be.'

His words ran through my mind and I just stared at the hoodie. Become the man I want to be?

I chuckled.

"I really wish Stryder would've just died. Then maybe you could've turned your back on me too. Instead Jack, you make me think, maybe killing myself isn't worth it."

I kneeled down and grabbed the ring that had fallen. My fingers graved over the silver and felt the hundreds of eyes that were etched in on it. It reminded me of some lovecraft type stuff. I put it on my finger and I was surprised to see it fit. I sighed and looked up at the tree.

"I know you'd beat the crap out of me if you saw me now. But what exactly am I supposed to do? What do I want to do?"

"My child, I have one last gift for you. Something that could give you purpose." My goddesses whispered.

I turned around and there she was. However, she looked different. She was small, just as small as me. She was in a tattered white dress and had long lavender hair. Even her eyes were less weird. They were pale, yet held an abundance of color, like a rainbow.

"Oh? Has the beautiful goddess fallen for the mighty Destroyer of worlds?" I asked.

She stepped toward me, her eyes locked onto mine. She didn't say a word and reached out to me. Taking my hand into her own.

"You're the exact opposite of Arthur. You're honest, even when you don't want to be. Your emotions guide you, I rather like that. You're not Arthur, and you're not Stryder. Like I am not my sister's."

My hand suddenly became warm and a purple flame erupted against our fingers. It didn't burn them, it just felt warm, almost soothing.

"So what? I'm a bad boy." I leaned into her. "Screw the heroes."

"Then join me, I'll make you the true destroyer of worlds. Let's cheat a little bit together and destroy my sister's."

My body shuttered and the flame only grew. Did, did she just say destroy her sisters? I took a step back.

"What are you talking about?"

I looked down at my hand and the flame was still there.

"Let's end this game and go for a winner takes all. Obviously you can't just call them out and kill them. There still Goddesses, world bending beings they are. However, once you strike them with the flame, and their defenses are down. They can't ever hope to recover."

"What? You're serious?"

She nodded.

"The players will go into automotive mode of course. No more grand changes. People will evolve upon the experience they gain. From whatever my sister's consider. So even if I die by my sister's. You'll still grow."

"You're serious? Why?"

A big smile etched itself on her face.

"Wouldn't this be much more fun!? You felt it didn't you!? When you fought Stryder! The joy of destruction!"

That's so gross, she sounds like Stryder. I glanced down at my hand then back to her. I thought about turning it off and the flame went away.

"So..even if I hypothetically wanted this. How does one surprise something so strong?"

"I've given you two spells that will help. An illusion that will even work on me. The other spell is a bubble, a space where we can talk without them hearing."

"Wait, are you saying you're always listening?"

She smiled.

"Even when you mumbled about how curvaceous your goddesses hips and-"

"Okay! Okay! I get it!"

"Aww, the mighty Destroyer of worlds is so cute when he's flustered."

"Shut it!" I grumbled.

I looked down at the hoodie.

"Do me a favor, can you make a portal for Icaruses?"

She growled.

"Why? That useless chicken isn't relevant ri-"

"He deserves to have this more than I do." I said and held up the hoodie.

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. We stared at each other for a moment, then she smiled.

"I'm not a fan of giving him things for free. But for you, I suppose I'll let this slide."

She flicked her hands and the ground opened up. A purple shimmer came from it and an orange flame bordered the hole. Deep down in the hole, I could see an apartment building and a deck.

"This leads directly outside of his room. You can drop it."

"Can you make a note, telling him it's from Jack? If you can do that for me, I'll join your crazy plan."

She smiled and flicked her wrists. A note appeared in the air. I tossed the hoodie down and the note followed. Then she quickly shut the void.

"Then let's conclude our deal." She said and stepped forward.

Her eyes met mine and I saw a flicker of hell fire. I remembered what she did to Icarus, then what she did to me.

'You were completely useless.' Her words echoed in my mind.

She reached out her hand to me and smiled and I reached mine out to her. Then, just before we shook. I activated that flame and shot my arm out at her. Running it through her chest.

"Ya know, you killed me just like this before too." I said and stepped forward.

She coughed and grabbed my arm, but the flame had already begun to consume her.

"You really are the opposite of Arthur." She whispered and caressed my arm. "Even now, I'm in love with everything about you."

"I hate everything about you."

"I suppose, it's easy to hate when you look into a mirror." She moved her head and stared into my eyes. "It's so sad. I can even see it in your eyes. You know I'll be the only one whoever loves you again."

"Burn in hell, you demon."

She smiled, and slowly but surely, her body flew up into smoke.

"Who needs love, when you have power."
