why are the tears i cry for you

the only ones that leave marks

i miss the feeling of your hands on mine

i miss the feeling of your head on my shoulder

i miss the very way you breathed

i miss the sound of your heart beat

and yet, here i sit

crying the painful tears of longing

the tears that leave marks

this poem is written about my ex. we broke up after he cheated on me with one of my best friends. i miss the nights where we would sit outside in the dark, just existing together. this poem was written as i sat inside during the rain, pondering why he had such an effect on me.
