Christmas Eve

It was another Christmas Eve.

You know what that means.

Another Christmas gala.

I didn't want to go.

Christmas galas were boring, slow and so......old fashioned.

But did I have a choice? No.

I arrive at the ballroom at 8:00pm, already dreading every moment I'll spend here tonight.

As I walk into the ballroom, I started feeling self-conscious.

Not because I was poorly dressed, oh no.

Mom had made sure that I had been wearing the best.

I was dressed in a red velvet ball gown which had a beautiful white sash around it, white heels, and held a white designer bag, and, since it was a mask party, I had a white mask on my face.

No, I felt self-conscious because I knew that I didn't fit in. This was not my society at all.

People wearing fancy clothing, walking with their heads high, speaking sophisticatedly and intelligently, that was not me.

I took a deep breath and walked through the crowd of people, trying to blend in.

I walk over to the snack table, smiling at the treats on the table.

At least there's a bright side at being at this party, stuffing my face with chocolate all night.

I sat at the snack table for as long as I could remember, watching everyone else at the party moving around, dancing and chatting with each other.

I even tried to start a conversation with someone once, but, that didn't go so well.

Fed up with the party, I sighed, picking up the skirt of my gown, walking to the back garden.

I took in the fresh air of the outside, as I came to the huge fountain.

Sitting by the fountain, I sighed in relief.

"Glad I'm away from that dump party."

"You and me both."

I yelped, can't believe I did that, standing up at the voice.

Turning around, a young man stood there.

He was 5 foot 6, with beautiful tan skin and black sleek hair

He was wearing a black suit that went well with his figure.

But the most captivating feature about him was his striking blue eyes which were not covered by the golden mask that sat on his face.

"I....um....hi." I said, a little bit shy.

He laughed.

"Hi."

Silence. Awkward silence.

"This is a beautiful night. It's just a shame that we have to spend it at this lame party."

"Well, we could always get away from here." The man turned to look at me, and I blush beet red, realizing what I had said.

"I...I...mean...you know what? Don't listen to me. I don't know what I'm saying. Just......"

The man laughed amused.

"You know what, that's a really good idea." He starts walking away, but then turned back to me. "You coming or what?"

"Oh......I......sure....yeah."

We went out into the city.

It was so much fun.

Being with him, was the best thing ever.

First we went to see a movie.

It was a new Christmas movie I had never see before "Klaus."

Imagine the weird looks we got from everyone else at the movie theater as we sat there in our formal attire.

But I didn't care.

I was away from the party, with a handsome man by my side, and I was having fun.

Then we watched a small Christmas parade.

It was so colorful.

With Christmas decorations and all the amazing Christmas carols, I was smiling so hard, my cheeks started to hurt.

Then we went to an ice skating rink.

It was just for the fun of it.

Imagine me ice skating in my large ball gown.

We fell down a couple of times, causing a lot of laughs.

But he never let go of my hand once.

Then finally, he took me to the center of the town, where the largest Christmas tree stood.

It was decorated with the prettiest, most magical Christmas decorations you had ever seen.

We sat under, drinking our cups of hot cocoa we had got earlier.

"Oh wow, you grew a moustache." He said, making me panic a bit.

"Huh? I did?"

"Uh huh." He reached into his pocket and brought out a small handkerchief. "Right here."

He used the handkerchief to wipe just above my lip.

I sighed quietly in relief, realizing he meant that I just had cream on my lips.

"Oh, that." He laughed.

"What'd you think I meant."

"I thought you meant I literally had a moustache."

"Nah. You're not cruel so......"

"So women who have moustaches are known to be cruel?"

"That's what I've heard."

"Hmm mmmn. Then what about the men?"

"Well moustaches make men a lot more mature."

"Oh really? Then why don't you have one?"

"Well...I...you see I......" I gave him a smug look and he smiled.

"How did we start talking about moustaches again?"

I laughed.

"You know what? I have no idea."

He laughed too.

Then there was silence for a while. Not an awkward one, it was comfortable.

"I had fun tonight." He said, looking deep into my eyes.

"Me too." I replied, his striking blue eyes drawing me in.

"You know what? I'm glad I came to the gala anyway. Cause a good thing came out of it. I met you."

He said with so much sincerity, I fell my heart beating so hard in my chest.

He started leaning in, making my breath hitch.

"Hey." He whispered.

"Hi?" I whispered back, laughing softly.

"Mistletoe."

I looked up and indeed, there was a mistletoe just above our heads.

"I wonder how that got there." I said, making him shrug.

He leaned in further, and I too started leaning in.

I could feel his breath on my face as we got really close.

I fluttered my eyes close, as our noses touch.

Our lips brushed against each other when suddenly......

Grrrrrrrrrr......

I gasp, waking up.

I looked around.

I was in my room, on my bed, in my pajamas.

I turned to my bedside and grabbed the alarm clock that had woke me up.

It read "7:35 am."

I rushed out of bed, and ran through the hallway.

Finally, I came to the kitchen where I saw my mom cooking.

"Merry Christmas darling."

"Christmas?" I asked confused.

"Yes sweetie, it's Christmas day."

"But....what about last night?"

"Last night?"

"Yeah. The gala you sent me too?"

"I didn't send you to any gala."

"What?" I whispered, now really confused.

"Sweetie are you alright? Did you hit your head or something?" Mom asked concerned.

I forced on a smile.

"No Mom. I just....it was just a crazy thought. Um.... Merry Christmas Mom."

I turned away from her and slowly walked to my bedroom.

Sitting on my bed, I pulled my blanket over my shoulders.

So does this mean that last night didn't happen?

That I didn't meet him.

That everything that happened was......

Just a dream?
