Author's Note

HEY HOPE EVERYONE IS ENJOYING LIFE!

Thanks for staying. Truly means a lot.

Enjoy!

Your POV

"Y/n?" The startled tone shifts to one of confusion and you're stuck there, sitting and staring in shock.

God must really hate you.

He extends out his hand for assistance, you don't take it and end up pushing yourself up by the base of your palms on the concrete.

At this point you're already looking away from him and the silence from the both of you is large.

I can't do confrontation—

"It's so nice to see you again," He begins, his words filling into the stale air.

"Yeah..." You respond despondent.

Everything within you is screaming to go. Get back to the hotel, talk it out with the others, get their advice.

Gennai's words resound in your head. The painful truth. You depend too much on the others.

"Uhhh... Y/n?" You're turned away from him, he walks foreword, body slighted trying to catch a look at your expression.

"I've got to go." You murmur, unsure if he heard it but that didn't matter at all.

Looking forward, the hot tension you can practically feel with Terushima's confused look. You have no intentions of looking back to try and trying to calm yourself.

"Wait Y/n—" the blonde abruptly grabs at your hand while you're turned away, jolting you back closer to him.

"I'm really sorry about what happened back in middle school." He apologies, eyebrows furrowed in concern. Looking bashful and a tad embarrassed with the crinkle of his bronze eyes and tiny smile.

"I want to make it up to you, how about a drink?" He offers, a brighter smile in turn.

"Yeah, no thanks." You answer. Then think again for a moment, thoughtfully. "Don't worry about it, we've made mistakes." You awkwardly state. Yeah, middle school was the biggest mistake.

You tug your wrist out of his hand and trudge back to the hotel through another path.

Yeah, middle school is your greatest mistake.

And don't even get started on elementary.

You only remember a few select moments but those select moments solidified how you'd feel about yourself for the next decade of your life.

"Yuuji," You tug on the sleeve of the taller boy. He's wearing a black long sleeved shirt under a stark pee colored yellow t-shirt, basketball in hand. Dark cargo shirts drooping shadows over a bandaid on his knee he wore from a wound in his knee from yesterday.

The boy turns to you, attentive and eyebrows arched. "What?"

"I'm hungry, can we go back to your home?"

"Terushima!" Theres a few other boys that yell his name, trotting up to him, ignoring your smaller form. "Wanna come play with us? We have enough for one more." The boy gestures to the court with a few others waving at you guys.

Terushima turns to you, then back to the unknown boy that invited him. "Not today, Y/n says she's hungry. Thanks anyway!"

He says, waving at the other boys from afar and then tugging you along by slinging one arm over your shoulder.

"Are you sure you wanted to do that?" You look up, eyeing his expression carefully. Any sort of twitch of his lips or change in expression would set you off to make you feel guilty.

"Yeah it's fiiiiiine." He dramatized, visage turning chill and relaxed.

"Nah, those guys aren't as fun as you anyway." He grins, ruffling your hair. The reassurance, warmed you.

You returning a toothy smile in response to the warmth you felt from his encouragement.

"Plus you're hungry. That's more important than some dumb basketball game." He pfts, laughing.

You remember how great you felt. He chose you over them, and that meant everything.

You park your space onto the curb. Palms buried deep all over your face. Breathing in and out roughly.

You and Terushima knew each other from childhood, being neighbors and all. And went to the same school for years to come, until high school of course.

But those feelings, of importance you felt when you were with him. He chose you over them. It was everything.

Over school for so many years, you both have been extremely close.

"Y/n, how do you know Terushima so well." One of the girls next to your desk gushes.

"Yeah he's always so cool! But with you, he's just so nice and kind." Another one inputs, eagerly feeding into your hope.

Your heart warms at the words. "We've just known each other for a long time." You shrug. "Plus he's just a good person." You add, a tad bit proudly.

"Come on Y/n!" Terushima's voice booms from the doorway. Holding your tiny backpack in hand, his own slung over his shoulder. "My mom made pork buns today and she says for you to come over and have them with us!" He adds.

You turn to the other girls. "Sorry, I gotta go." You get up from the plastic chair, and walk towards Terushima who holds your backpack.

It felt nice... knowing that you had someone who had your back. Other people being envious for having what you wanted.

Until middle school.

"Yuuji, this is Kaori." You introduce the blonde haired girl to Terushima. Who had his hands buried deep inside his pockets. A faint blush on his face. Must have been from the heat of the sun on the playground.

"Hey Yuuji!" She greets, a giggle right at the end as she takes his hands and bobs it in a gesture of greeting.

"Uh," you deadpan. Only you could call him Yuuji. "Kaori, I don't know if Yuuji is comfortable with you calling him that—"

"It's fine." Terushima hurriedly addresses, practically turning to you with a hiss.

You shift your head, confused. Looking as Terushima nods to Kaori in equal greeting.

That was the start of how middle school became your downfall.

"Y/n!" Terushima hisses to you, grabbing onto your wrist as you both walk the way home down the empty street.

"What?!" You bark back, startled at the abruptly loud display.

"Kaori, do you have her number?" The boy eagerly asks, patting the phone in his pocket as same gesture.

Your eyebrows raised skeptically. "... why...?"

"She's so cute. Please Y/n!" He pleads, eyes twinkling.

Your eyes widen. Shocked by the gesture of how far Terushima would go just to get Kaori's number, someone he met just today.

Someone who would refuse to share food with you, a pout present on his face everyday after school when you tried to reach to his plate of food. Someone who would be too prideful to even say sorry after hurting your feelings over something mundane... but still valid enough to hurt you.

Now you see he's begging for a girl's number he just met.

Maybe giving you Kaori's number would make him like you more. Even though you both were closer than Kaori was to either of you.

"Fine." You suck up your hurt. Taking your phone out and exchanging the numbers.

"But you didn't get it from me." You add, judging him softly with a light chuckle, but getting ignored as he has a goofy grin whilst he texts aimlessly at his phone.

You knew you should've never given him her number.
